Thank you for anserwing.
Been there done that. 5 yrs. ago I lost my had drive all my geneolgy was stored on. After getting a new one, I had to rescann all I had in my note books back in.
I;m very instred in what you have found on Sarah Smothers. A few yrs. ago I was in conntact with someone from her second husbands family & he gave me her death date & cemetery she was buried in.
Her father was & is a mystery. I haven't found a thing on him other than her was in the Civil War. He came home sick & I figured he died from what ever it was, but we have never found anything.
Same goes for his parents. They also disappeared. I had a great aunt that told me bout of her grandmothers died in the early 1900's in Henry Co. Oh. But I have never found any evidence of Matilda Sowers Smothers ever being there.
One of Sarah's uncles gr-grandson took a DNA test, that proved we go back to Geo Nicholes or his parents, but we are still unable to find where he fits in. The Sowers family, I haven't got any where with.
From things posted here, you guys lead me to the cenus on this line & I am most greatfully for that, but would love more.
Lois-loiswallace@charter.net

"I have some unconfirmed information but maybe you can get some clues or verify my information. James Pinkney Smothers was the Smothers Brothers grandfather"

NO James Pinkney was NOT the Smothers brother's grandfather.

the line begins thus:
Elizabeth Smothers > Thomas Randall Smothers > Thomas Madison Smothers > Thomas Bolyn Smothers I > Thomas Bolyn Smothers II > Smothers Brothers [Dick Smothers Sr & Tommy]
we have a desc of Dick Smothers Sr in our dna project [Dick Smothers Jr]
and a desc of Elizabeth's son James Pinkney who had a dau Mattie md King have confirmed James is certainly not grandfather to Smothers bros. In fact James' mother Mary Polly Smothers [husband UNK] and the Smothers bros gg grandfather Thomas Randall were siblings, both children of Elizabeth Smothers & husband UNK. All the 7 kids took the mother's name [Elizabeth Smothers].
I think I lost the fitst messaage to you.

We come from the same Smothers family. I have (John & Matilda's] Bible, not that it tells me anything.
I have very little on Alexander m. Elizabeth Davis parents of Sarah married Herman Immil. I have fouud some things on-line. Only verified them by census.
Alexander was in rhe Civil War, married after he came home.
Elizabeth Davic m. Alexander Smother 14 Feb 1886 (have married records). I've not found a census with them togeter. By 1870 she was living with a family next door to her parents, with Sarah "Ann" only 2 yrs old. Then I lose them.
Sarah b. 19 May 1868 d. 19 Feb 1930 Columbus. buried 22 Feb 1930 Alton, Oh. m. 8 Feb 1912 to Herman Immil. 1910 Sarah is without Herman. Married #2 Edward Strait 8 Feb 1912
Death Certifiacte showes Sarah Strait's paremts are Alexander Smother & Elixabeth Davis.
I found this Immel line, oh line, follwed it with census, but that person never anserwed my e-mail messges. All I have found is what this persons line has s lead me too.
I've not got back behond Alexansr's parents, but do have some of John & Matils Sours/Sowers children. (Have there marriage records too).
John & Matida dissapeard, as some of the children did.
My gr-aunt told me both of her grandmother died, near Elre
y, Marion Twp. Henry Co. Oh. in the early 1900's.
I've not found a thing of either John or Matilda being there.
A desaadent took the DNA test, and showes we go back to George Nichplas Smothers, somehow.
Please contact me at loiswallace@charter.net
Would love to learn more on this line & share with you.
Distant cousin Lois

Thank you/Thank you
Earlier I was tring to trace her in the censes, Couldn't figured out wjo she had married first.
I found her with her mother, Elizabeth Davis/Smother's in 1870. Then Elizabeth dusapears, like her dad did.
In 1880 Sarah is living in the home of Jacob Smith. Then I lose her until after her marriage to Edwaed Strait. 1920 they have a Zelda Immel as step dau. I figured she had been married before, but couldn't find anything.
I have a copy of Sanah's death certificate & her parents marriages license. Also papers of Alexander's Civil War Records.
Will you share info with me.
I've been intering the Smother's info in my progam. Several years ago I lost the hard drive all this was on & am finding alot of the saved material isn't here any long. So have went back & searched Henry Edward & Alexander today. It will probaly be a day or two before it is all typed in, so I can go on to Mary Ann and my great grandfather, William Herny. I hope I find more info saved & typed in, than I have the other sibling.
Lois Stegal
You can E-mail me at
loiswallace.net

Your quite welcome. I have a few cousins still alive that remember alot of the history & family lore. They also have tin-type photos of the ladies and some of the men. Elizabeth Ann Davis married a few times according to the name changes we have in our papers & memories. She was a Siebold & Smothers & Nosker from wht they haave told me. Yes, I too have heard of the Cherokee heritage in the Smothers line. I cannot confirm or deny any of it, but, they could be checked out with the Native American Indian Registry. I hear there is one in Columbus. I used to live there before I moved to Springfield and I vaguely remember one in Columbus or something like it anyway. I would love to get more info. I have Sarah Ann's marriage certificates to both Harman Immil & Edward"Pap" Strait. Zelda Immel is my Grandfather Phillips babysister. Sarah & Harman Immil had several children. 3 are buried in Alton Cemetery- Sarah M., Ulysees & Absolum Louis, and 4 are buried out in Pleasant Cemetery in Madison Cty., by London Ohio. Along with my Grandparents Phillip * Laura Immel. Some of my Aunts & one Uncle are still alive as well. Would love to get together & share ours with you & your family connections sometime. I have alot of info thanks to one of my cousins out in California.

Carla

I have been back reading all of the listings here and I can pull alot of these together in my family line.
My ggf is Harman Immil who married Sarah Ann Smothers. Sarah Ann is the daughter of Alexander & Elizabeth Davis, they also had a son Henry. Alexander Smothers is the son of John Smothers & Matilda Sowers. They had 11 children. Elizabeth Davis' parents are Washington B. Davis & Elizabeth Ann Moler, they had 4 children that I have located so far. I have zerox copies of some tin-type photos of some of these relatives. The originals are in the hands of one of my Immel cousins. There are about 4 female generations of grandmothers photographed.
Does anyone have any information on Alexander Smothers, son of John & Anna (Davis) Smothers. It is as though he dropped right off the face of the Earth. Our family thinks that Anna remarried a Nosker oe Siebold. Not sure of that either, but will take any help finding Alexander I can get.
