Hi Brian,
Many thanks for your mail, shame about the Snaiths! My Emmersons were all from County Durham mainly around Stanhope and Weardale although they did spread a little, and up to 1864, had only one 'm' in their surname spelling, I am not sure, and never will be, whether to inclusion of the second 'm' was a spelling mistake or deliberate.
If you would like to discuss the likelihood of an Em[m]erson connection I would be delighted to correspond.
Regards,
John

I am related to William Snaith (born c.1820) who married Elizabeth Vart at St Cuthbert, Etherley in 1859. I know his father was also a William Snaith (born c. 1792 in Evenwood). William senior was the landlord of the Dog & Gun at Etherley at some point.
I'd be keen to here from anyone who can help track down this line, my interest so far has been thE Vart family so only recent interest in the Snaiths.

Hello, the family tree i have goes as far back as William Snaith [i am a direct descendant, he is my g g g g g grandfather] - the tree shows that he was born 1740 died 9.6.1812 and married a miss frank, of his children the one shown on my tree is Parkin born 1779 died 30.8.1825. I notice on your line you have a William baptised 1739, son of a William and another Miss Frank. Surely this must be my William too? can you confirm date of death as 9.6.1812? Hoping so. Cheers, Brian.

Hello Mark. I do the gravestone inscriptions for a hobby.
There are no BENNISON or FORRESTER on any gravestones in Stanhope,Frosterley,Wolsingham,Witton le Wear,Hamsterley,
Tow Law,Crook,Satley,Muggleswick,Lanchester,Etherley,Hunwick,
Edmunbyers, Escomb is ongoing and if I come across the BENNISON
or FORRESTER names I will let you know.
What you need to bear in mind is very few families could afford a
permanent gravestone . Most would have been marked by a simple
wood cross and of course they would not last.
Another thing is the "Council" or whoever is in charge of the cemeteries
are hell bent on laying flat the stones that they think are unsafe.
I have come across hundreds that have been laid flat and unfortunately
they have been laid face down and I am afraid they will never be seen
again.

Adam
Whoops. Should have said I am indexing Escomb and there is a one for SNAITH in Escomb. The one that I sent was a stone for Witton le Wear.
While I am on I can tell you that there are two stones at Lanchester and one at Satley with the name SNAITH. Do you want them sending?

Adam

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the information; It was only yesterday when I placed a request on the Durham board for MI information at Escomb! Any SNAITH MI's would be gratefully received. I'm quite early into my research so need all the help I can!
Can I be cheeky and ask if you have any MI's for the BENNISON and FORRESTER names too?
My SNAITH, BENNISON and FORRESTER members were all around the Escomb, Etherley and Witton Park area. Penshaw is another area too...
Are you indexing the MI's on behalf of a FH society with the intention of publishing them? Regards and thanks. Mark.(markyb70@hotmail.com)

Hi Adam,
Thanks for your effort! As you said, it's more than likely that there are no stones marking the graves. They certainly had no money and more than likely could not afford a stone, but it was worth checking with you anyway...
I'm fairly sure that there should be a BENNISON in Escomb cemetery, but whether the grave is marked or not, I don't know...I did have a quick look in Escomb cemetery, but it looked quite 'wild' in there and thought that I stood no chance of finding anything! As you say, why are the stones laid face down????
Before I forget, are the SNAITH MI's you've given me from Escomb or else where? Hopefully, I'll be able to fit some of them in to my tree....eventually. In the meantime, thank's for your time and effort. Regards, Mark.

Glad that you spotted my typo in my last post! Of course, BENNSISON should have read BENNISON. My earliest BENNISON to date also appears to have originated from North Yorkshire - somewhere around the Stokesley/Great Broughton area, but his Birth/Baptism record is proving a little difficult to source at the moment...

His daughter, HANNAH SNAITH (b.1929) married JOHN BENNSISON in Auckand (Dec 1852). The SNAITH's are quite a recent interest so any further information would be appreciated...

Hi Paul,

This is regarding Parkin SNAITH b. 1813 (son of Parkin Snaith).

A Parkin SNAITH is buried in the Boxwood Cemetery, Town of Ridgeway, County of Orleans, in the State of New York, USA. He died in 1892. His wife is noted as Elizabeth SCOLIO. They supposedly married in England ca. 1840. Children of this union are noted as: Elizabeth (b. 1840), George (b. 1842), Mary (b. 1846), and Emma J. (b. 1860 - yes 60) The first 3 children were born in England. Emma was born at Shelby, Orleans County, NY.

Hope this helps!

Marie
Paul and Adam,

Here's a little more information on the Parkin SNAITH family.
Elizabeth's maiden name was SCOLIO.

The family appears in the 1865 US Census for Shelby, Orleans County, NY.

In about 1864 at Shelby, Orleans County, NY, a George SNAITH married Aldeine. Her maiden name may have been TIMMERMAN. I can not tell you that this George is your George.

On 6 Oct 1868 a Frank SNAITH was born at Shelby, Orleans County, NY. He married an Ida LOKE. She was born on 24 Nov 1866 in Medina, Orleans County, NY to Ephram LOKE and his wife Mary (unknown maiden). Ida was buried at Boxwood Cemetery, Town of Ridgeway, Orleans County, NY on 20 Oct 1926. Frank was buried same place on 9 Sep 1947.

Perhaps this Frank is a son of the above George and Aldeine? I have no proof that such is correct, however.

This is not my line. I explored it because of Frank SNAITH. My gg grandfather was a Frank SNAITH, but this did not turn out to be him.

Hope this information is useful to you.

Marie Snaith
Idaho, USA

So far I have not found family for him.

Child 4. Margaret SNAITH - She married Joseph WOOLER in 1771 at Wolsigham. They had 9 children born at Wolsingham between 1773 and 1787.

Child 5. Henry SNAITH - He too went to London but did not enter the banking field. He was a habberdasher together with David Jones. Their shop was located at 5, Friday Street in London. So far, I have not found family for him.

Is anyone else researching SNAITH in the Wolsingham and London areas? I'd love to compare notes with you if you are.

Marie

Hello I am researching my husbands family. His grand father was Richard Snaith Monshower. Richard mother was Melissa Snaith who was born in england in 1877 her parents were= Rhoda A ? born in england around 1844 and Thomas Snaith born in england around 1842
According to the census I found they all came from england in 1887. also on that census it says that Melissa had given birth to 1 child and that child was living but the child is not listed on the census. Rhoda is listed as having given birth to 7 with 5 living.
I would like to find out any info about any of these people. thank you for your help
