Just read your query regarding variations of the Schnerr surname. My 2x's great grandmother was Susanna "Snarr" and she married John Kuhn (Koon)in 1823; and, her father was Joseph Snarr of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania and his father was Philip Schnerr of Union Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania 1750/1829. Following the death of Susanna (Snarr) Kuhn, John Kuhn married her younger sister Julia "Snarr" in 1847.

I have marriage document that gives Joseph and Margent as parents.
Family Tree Research:
Madison Snare->David Snare->Carl Snare->Ronald Snare->Kendrick Snare->Madeleine Snare:
I am Ronald Snare, grandson to David H. Snare (born July 5, 1879), great grandson to Madison Snare, a resident of Huntigdon PA in the 1910 census.

I am looking for earlier generations of Madison Snare as well as other branches of this Snare family tree.

My grandfather David H. Snare (born July 5, 1879) married Emma F. Eastep (born December 28, 1879).

My great grandfather Madison Snare married Suzanne Waite.

My grandmother, Emma (Eastep) Snare parents were Calven Eastep (born 1851) and Roseanna Smith, born October 24, 1850.

Please send information to my email address:

RCSnare@aol.com
or
ronaldsnare@yahoo.com

Hello Shelly Foster,

Your spelling of Suzanna Weight, I believe to be incorrect. Especially the last name "Weight" that means a unit of weights and measures.

The name "Waite" and specifically the name Suzanne Waite appears in the Snare family Bibles and genealogy records written years ago. I am confident of my great grandmother being Suzanne (Waite) Snare married to Madison Snare.

Perhaps you really do have a Suzzanna Weight that is not in my family line. Or perhaps your spelling of Weight is phnetic (by sound) and not the accurate spelling used by Suzanne.

Suzanne or Suzanna Waite was my great grandmother.
She was married to Madison Snare. Suzanne and Madison had a son, David Snare who married Emma F. Eastep. They had children, Robert, Carl, Helen, Alverta, and Martha of whom Carl is my father. My middle name is Carl after my father.

Tell me about yourself and your line.

You can reach me by addressing RCSnare as the prefix to the abbreviation for america online.

Ronald (Ron) Carl Snare

Glued in the bible is Henry's Obit notice. At the end of the Obit they mention: "Mr. Snare is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Thomas E. Africa and by two brothers, Cremiah and Jonathan, of Kalona Iowa and a sister Mrs. Alexander Parks of Entriken ....." Must be the same person mentioned in the other note (sister to the mother of Kate Kissinger of Marklesberg)
Susan

Sorry -- I'm really behind ! I was working in the Snare:Africa geneology a few years ago and had to put it aside ... I just started over again. I have Henry Snare's (b.1828) bible here ... inside are little newspaper clippings and hand written notes. One hand written note reads:
"Zack Snare - grandpa Snare's brother -- stone mason, lived in Marklesburg. Kate Kissinger lived on a farm near Maklesburg her mother was sister of grandpa Snare but I don't remember her name (the mother). Another sister lived near Entriken - Flora Parks,-M.G. Brumbaugh's second wife was her daughter".

Not sure if this helps you at all. I think the note was written by Martha Harshbarger Africa (wife of Henry Snare Africa who was the son of Anna Snare and Thomas Africa) ... Martha was my husband''s (Walter T Africa, II) grandmother.

Susan

Good to hear from you. What's your Kissinger connection? You said you had a good bit of information on Grandpa Sam - I'd be interested in knowing what you have found.

Mary Ann Snare was born January 4, 1821 in Marklesburg, Huntingdon County, PA. She married Sam on October 6, 1842 in Marklesburg. You probably have the info on their 6 children. Lucinda was my great grandmother.

Mary Snare Kissinger died October 17, 1895 in Marklesburg and is buried next to Sam in the Reformed Church Cemetery. I have been back to their home and to the cemetery two different times.

If you know Huntingdon County, you know it is loaded with Snares. Mary's parents were Conrad Snare and Anna Elizabeth Clark.

I don't have Conrad's date of birth. It is estimated at 1796 in Pennsylvania. He married Anna Elizabeth Clark who apparently was also known as Nancy Ann Clark. She was born October 6, 1795 in one source and 1793 in another source. She is from Virginia.

Conrad and Anna had 8 children (according to my records). If you need more on the Snare children let me know. It kind of goes on forever.

Conrad Snare died July 1858 in Marklesburg and is buried at Paradise Furnace.

Anna Clark Snare died July 4,1874 in Marklesburg and is buried with Conrad.

I have Conrad's parents as John Schnerr and Ann _______. John Schnerr was born 1762. He was a ship builder and a farmer. He was injured young and is called a "humpback" in family records. He was born in Germany, lived and worked in Virginia, before settling in Penn Township.

Anna Clark's father was Tuck Clark.

I have pictures of Sam and Mary Kissinger and their kids if you are interested or don't have.

David Snare of Blair County, Pennsylvania

My grandfather, David Snare, was born on July 5, 1879 to Madison Snare and Suzanne (Waite) Snare. David married Emma Eastep and resided in Williamsburg, Pennsylvania until his death in 1946. I am unsure if my branch of the Snare's comes from the German branch named Schnerr. In the town of Willimasburg where I grew up there are many families named Snare with whom I can not trace a relationship. I am connected with people named Snare in Melbourne (Victoria) Australia and on the north shore of Tasmania, Australia. These people came from England and are named Snare. Linda Molosky traces her family to Schnerr living in Huntingdon, PA. My grandfather, David, had a brother living in Huntingdon. However, with Pennsylvania having many German immigrants and also English and Polish immigrants, the names Schnerr and Snare may have different roots confused by anyone who changed their name from Schnerr to Snare. I have not encountered the name Schnerr until Linda's response. If anyone has information post it here and also send it to ronald.snare@mindspring.com

R S Snare

1860 Illinois Federal Census - name difficult to read Rescur???

Stark County, Illinois, Settlement and Progress by MA Leeson page 637

R S Snare, born in Huntingdon county, Pa., Jan 27, '47, is the son of John P. and Mrs Nancy (Gharrett-Kurfman) Snare, both natives of that State, as related in the history of the Snare family in the chapter on Toulon. Mrs Snare is the daughter of David and Susan (Barnett) Kurfman, whose ancestors came from Germany to Pennsylvania, where they were born. R. S. Snare came to Penn township with the family in '47, was raised and educated here, and during his whole life, with the exception of four years, has been identified with the agricultural and stock interests of the county. His first land purchase was fifty-four acres on section eighteen, and forty acres on section twenty-four. His marriage with Miss Margaret A. Crum was celebrated September 19, '73. This lady is the daughter of Samuel Crum, whose family history is given in this chapter. To this marriage two children were born, one of whom only is living. In '78 the family moved to Jefferson County, Colorado, where for three years he was engaged in agriculture, and for one year traveled, in company with his wife, through that country, visiting every point of interest, in not every settlement then existing there. While there he served as director of schools, and gave the name - Rockland - to district twenty-three of Jefferson county. In this township he had also served as director of schools. Politically he had always been a Republican, and in religious affairs a supporter of the Methodist Protestant Church at Snareville.
