Mark was my father, sadly passed away in 1989 aged 81. Mark as a 15 year old moved from sheffield to newmarket to train as a jockey. Due to eventual weight problems he was approached by lord rosebery to move to his stud in mentmore, near leighton buzzard, bedfordshire. There he assumed the position of stallion man looking after a problem horse named Miracle.
Mark married a local business woman, my mother winifred and had three sons, matthew, myself and my younger brother jonathan.
hope this is of use. re his father, i do have a photograph.
Regards,Jim

Hi Maryann,
I think I am a relative of yours, descended from James Marion Snee, brother of your grandfather, Michael. I know many of the relatives from Dorothy's family (your father, Robert's sister).
I am trying to trace back our family tree. I think that Michael, James and Luke had another, brother, Thomas, who did not survive to adulthood. Do you know his birth or death date?
Do you know the birth/death dates/places for Michael's wife, Mary May, or her parents, Michael May and Bridget Marren, or Bridget's parents, Mark and Bridget Marren?
Thank you.
Karen Hood Tillberg (granddaughter of James Marion Snee and Mariette Louise Egger)

I think I am a relative of yours--my grandfather is James Marion Snee, one of Michael's(your grandfather) brothers. I know many of Dorothy's descendents, as my mother, Marion, was close to her cousin.
I am trying to find out more about the family history. Do you know the birth dates of Mary May and Luke Snee (James and Michael's parents)?
I understand that Michael, James and Luke had another brother, Thomas, who did not survive to adulthood. Do you know anything about Thomas?
Do you know the birth dates/places and death places of Mary May's parents, Michael May and Bridget Marren, and Bridget Marren's parents, Mark and Bridget Marren?
Thanks for your help.

Hi, I'm trying to track my family tree and I hoped you could be of some assistance. I am a relative of Thomas Woolner (1825-1892), Father of Titanic surviver Hugh Woolner (1866-1925). The furthest back I am aware of - through family knowledge - is Alvin Woolner, who is my Great Grandfather, father of my Grandad, James Woolner. In between Hugh and Alvin, there is a missing link that I am trying to identify. Any information you are able to provide would be much appreciated.

I have an advertising trade card for a Michael Snee, "Painter and Decorator," with a Philadelphia address. This seems to be the Michael Snee who was born in Ireland about 1850; later moved to Brooklyn. I don't collect trade cards for painters, and am looking for a proper home for it. If anyone wants to take a look, reply here and I'll send you a jpg. I'd like the original to go to a direct descendant.

Hi Kathy,
This is what I know- Catherine Fitzgerald married James H . Snee in Boston Mass. We have a photo of James Snee arriving off the boat. Tall, black hair, brown eyes , skinny, He was older than Catherine. Catherine had brother Thomas, sister Mary , who was a school teacher in Arlington Mass. Also sister Brigette, and another brother, I think Michael, all from Count Cork. They had relatives in Tipperary, James Snee came to AMERICA from England. He was most likely the son of 3 brothers who migrated originally from the Mayo area in Ireland. Maybe Catherine knew him before and he migrated here to marry her, he was older than her. He and she had Michael, a twin, Patrick died, Kathleen, James, Margaret (Peggy) and Sheila. All are deceased, Died within the last 5 years. There are numerous links to James SNEE WE, FOUND HE HAD SEVERAL KIDS WITH MANY WOMEN. I wonder if that is the confusion, establishing names. Jimmy had children in Somerville, Boston, , the whole family lived in the Boston area. Its public data, in the records division. Kathleen was my mom, she died 2 years ago. There are many Snee's in the North Carolina area, and in the midwest I was suprised. But, there is alot of reseach to do, I think also my grandmother Catherine was called Kitty. her nephew was Tommy Dolye from Milton Mass he was a police chief. in the 1970's. Hope it helps. Bye Linda

Hi Kathy,

Mary Snee could have been the brother of my great great grandfather, Thomes T Snee, born 1841 (I think in Kilkelly). But the information I have startes with him and doesn't show any of his brothers or sisters (assuming he had some) only his children:

John B born 1864
Thomas F born 1866
Mary B born 1871
Patrick F born 1873
Michael B born 1874 (known to be in Atlantic City in 1931)
James J born 1876

I also have their spouse's names.

Very removed relationship but back about 5 generations. Michael Snee naturalized Philadelphia, Pa with brother Andrew. Also had 1 sister Mary Ann Snee and another brother John. Their father's name was John and their mother was Ann Gallagher. Michael Snee born 1821(24)in Ireland married Mary ?. They had 6 surviving children your Michael & girls: Mary,Anne,Emma,Elizabeth & Catherine Frances. ALL of the Snees were painters. In the 1860 census, Michael Snee Sr is listed as Master painter. I have a little info on the Michael Snee family. Most of my info is Mary Ann Snee Devlin.

Hi Lauren,
I am Linda Snee - that is the birth name - My mom was born in Boston , Mass. She was the daughter of James Henry Snee and Catherine Ann Fitzgerald Snee- She was from County Cork, Waterford , Dungarven Ireland. I am the granddaughter of Catherine and James; My mom has 8 brothers and sisters- Margaret, James, Kathleen (my mom), Michael and Sheila, there was a twin, of Michael died at birth. I traced ancestry to England and Ireland. My grandmother was young at time of marriage - her husband James Henry died at early 40's. He was handsome, tall , and blue eyes, black hair. We also found many mysteries surrounding this family and the origins are not clear. Mr/Mrs/ Byers insightful knowledge is helpful to me. Thanks. Linda

Dear Joe,
Hello,I hope you and your family read the boards. I think our SNEE family tree is related- My grandmother was Catherine Anee Fitzgerald Snee married James Henry Snee , he died very young, they lived in Boston, Mass, My grandmother had a relative she would visist when I was growing up, name Bernard, but, she pronounced it Bernid, he might have been brother-in-law? Not sure, My Nana's nick-name was Kitty, They Had,Margaret, James, Michael,Kathleen, Michael, (he was a twin, one died,). My family and I have tried to figure out what side of the SNEE'S our tree is. Kitty, was younger than him, maybe 6-10 years , she arrived from County Cork, we believe Dungarven, Waterford, County Cork. Kitty's family fell hard when James Henry died of pneumonia at around late 38-42 years, my mom was 10 years old, and all the children went into the Savard Foster Home in Lowell, Mass. It was very difficult times for them. Could explain alot of the breaking of the family tree, sadly, I believe Alcohol played a role, life was tough in the 1920,, 1930,'s my mom was born in 1937- she was 10 years old when her dad died. My mom was Kathleen, Only one brother Michael Snee is alive and one Sister Sheila, ALL ARE DECEASED, I have a photo of James Henry Snee arriving off a boat - he is about 6ft. 2inches, black wavy hair, dressed well, with a hat, luggage bag. my mom told me it was him arriving in America,,,but he appears to be about 29 , 30 years old, time frame did not seem right but, back then people looked older. Let me know if you have any data. Kitty died, in, Boston, I believe in 1982 she was 82-85 I will have to ask my sister. Our generation seems to have done better , and have had more success than our parents, I guess that is what its all about. I live about 1/2 hour from Rhode Island, go there ofter, nice beaches, great food! Well, Warm Regards,
Hi Linda,
Re Bernid, did you ever see his name written down? It could have been Bernard but sounded like Bernid due to the Irish accent, also in the early days when immigrants arrived and gave their name to the officer in charge the name was recorded as heard which could be another reason. We are very interested in the fact that you have a Stainrod in your family, coincidence? We must find out!
Henry James sounds interesting too. You mentioned your grandfather died in his 40's, which James Henry was blind? You may be interested to know that my husband's Uncle, Mark Snee (b. 1908) left Sheffield to go to the South of England where he became a groom for race horses, I wonder if there was a connection with the Snee male , 1800's. Which castle was it? Jan.

Dear Combat Cowgirl,
My daughter pointed this site to me as she was working om my moms family tree, and the name is SNEE, she saw your site, mentioned it to me because she knew I was looking for a sister given up for adoption in Boston,Mass who would be about 54-58 years of age, just the name Linda Louise, my mom (deceased now) had a sister-in-law named Louise so maybe the names are just a coincidence , or, not, That is why I responded. What data are you looking for? Maybe if they come from Boston Mass we might be able to help, Linda E.

Dear Ms.Byers,
It suddenly came to me - my grandfather James Henry Snee could have had 2 families;Unfortunately, all to common, when they came to the states. Also. could have been what they call the black sheep, family disputes sent JHSnee to America, This man is about 6ft 2 inches , black hair wavy, eyes according to my sister were not blue, as I thought, he is dressed with a suit / hat/ luggage bag- coming off the ship. he appears in his late 20's. Possibly there were a family of Snee possibly name O'Shaigh, found some religious origins of this name related to an archbishop in England. I will send the crest DATA I have on SNEE Warm Regard Linda

THANK YOU. Ms Byers- I remember my nana Kitty, (Catherine) would visit periodically a relative in Rhode Island named Bernid Snee. My sister and recall the name because it was unsual to this area. Bernard not Bernid, seemed common. But, also I traced the Stainrod Family to my family, then saw something clever, a man coming to America who was named Henry James Snee , (possibly reversed) James Henry, was blind and returned to England. Where he lived and married a woman who was also blind and they lived at the school for the blind. I wonder if someone else came to the US as James Henry instead. Inverting the name, could have been a brother. We also found a Snee male who worked in the horse stables for the castle in the 1800's. We have professional show horse girls in this family. But, I will keep looking. I have a picture of the James Henry Snee that came to USA- it is on the ship's arrival in Massachusetts. Linda

Hi Linda & Lauren,

I know there are some members of the Snee family in the Eastern States of the U.S.A.(all unknown to our Snee branch) maybe John Snee had a brother who emigrated to the USA starting another branch to the Snee tree. We know that John, (wife Winniford/Winnifred) only went to England, year unknown, and James Henry was born in Burton onTrent, Staffordshire, in 1871, married Keziah Stainrod, 25th December, 1894 and lived in Sheffield, England. James Henry's brothers were Thomas born 1863, and Edward born 1873. We don't know any more details about them. This clarifies that the two James Henry's were not closely related.

Our Snee family originated in Roscommon and Galway, Ireland in 1840's. They emigrated to England eventually settling in Sheffield. My husbands' great grandfather was John Snee, grandfather James Henry Snee, James had several siblings so maybe your grandfather is descended from one of them.
Good luck in your search for your branch of the Snee tree.
