Hello,
In your research, did you find any information about the William Snell, son of John Peter Snell, born June 24, 1755 Orangeburgh, S.C. and Catharine Horger?
My William Snell was born Jul 14, 1786 in Tennessee, and died Jun 17, 1861 in Progress, Pike Co., MS. He married NANCY ANN AVIS CUTRER Bet. 1815 - 1825 in Washington Parish, LA., daughter of JOSEPH CUTRER and MARY PENDARVIS. She was born Apr 14, 1798 in Orangeburg, S.C., and died Nov 04, 1875 in Washington Parish, La. I am fairly certain my William was in the 39 REGIMENT TENNESSEE MILITIA , War of 1812. With Andrew Jackson in Creek Wars & in The Battle of New Orleans.
Census 1: 1850, Pike Co, MS. family # 291
Census 2: 1840, Pike Co, MS. family # 161
Census 4: 1860, Pike Co, MS. family # 138

Everything I find points my William Snell to Orangeburg (Cutrers and such) but I cant connect him to any of the William Snell children there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Bob? I joined anscetry to help my wife trace her family and got sidetracked with my own.
I am Australian and my 2xgreat grandfather was Samuel James Snell of Guernsey, his father was Samuel Paul Snell, this was according to his marriage certificate to his Australian born to German parents wife Amelia Piltz in 1874.
Well if Samuel Paul is your granddad and mine, quite unreal isnt it.
One thing that was said on my information from here was Samuel James mother Sarah was Sampson which could be right or wrong as seeing the name Sameon here was the first time Id seen that spelling, I know with the Prussians rellies the spellings were anglisied or spelled as it sounded that kind of thing?
I was made aware a few years ago of a census showing a Samuel Snell and his infant son visiting relitives in Coylton Deven, I believe it was the 1851 census, I may be wrong but it was through a person from Rootsweb..
Well if we are searching the same people I would be happy to hear from you and share, help with the research if your interested.
Cheers
Edward McDonald
Perth Western Australia.

SEARCHING FOR DECENDENTS OF DAVE W SNELL - CT

I am still searching for decendents of Dave W. Snell. His Father George Snell and Mother were killed close by their home in an auto accident in the mid 60's in Fairfield County CT. I have reason to believe Dave Snell passed sometime in the early 1990's. Any information would be helpful for medical reasons. I have uncovered the home he grew up in - located in New Cannan, CT is still in the family. I believe it may be owned by a 1/2 sister or her children.

I had sent for the following film through the LDS, and copied most of the records with the Hoffmann surname. Erich Wunn had transcribed these from the original records. I was able to piece my direct line because I had the original death cert. of the son of Christian Hoffmann and Anna Dorothea Korst. Then I added the records of Erich Wunn. The original records are very hard to read in that German Script, also available through the LDS. Erich Wunn had abstracted a little vitals from those.

Christian Hoffmann was born abt. Oct. 1755 marr. Korst
His brother Johann Nickel b. abt. Dec. 1753.
Their parents were: Johann Caspar Hoffmann & Eva Elisabetha Feller.

Caspar Hoffmann's death record:
Item 13 Tote (Death Records)

1782

"Johann Caspar Hoffmann Gdsm. u. Schneidermstr. dahier ist auf dem *Weeg von St. Wendel in einem Busch verirrt und erfrohren, war alt 50 ½ Jahr"

+21. 1. 22.1 begr. 25.1. zu Waldmohr

Johann Caspar Hoffman, Gemeindsmann (citizen of the community), master tailor. From here, going from St. Wendel, lost his way in the woods/thicket/ and froze to death, he was 50 ½ years old.

(Either he was declared dead on Jan. 21, and then Jan. 22, might be the date he was found. He was buried Jan. 25, in Waldmohr.)

*Weg is the correct spelling, meaning: way, path, road.

Going a straight line, perhaps a path, St. Wendel would be about 10-12 miles from Waldmohr. Present day with the main roads winding farther around it is mapped out at 14 miles.

Evangelisch-Reformierten Kirchenbuch der Pfarrei Waldmohr (1689-1818) Transcriptions of Parish Records by Erich Wunn. (FHL Film #1676260)

I will check with the Waldmohr Church sometime and see if they are planning on making a Familienbuch. When I was over there, just 3 of the neighboring towns had those to purchase.

Debbie

This could quite possibly be my uncle whom I was named after. Our family was from the Ohio and Illinois area. We have an extensive genealogy that is called the Brubakers genealogy. Most of the Snells from Illinois to Pennsylvania have turned up to be related to me. You might want to check a book called Pleasant Hill for more information. It is about Church of the Brethren Genealogy.

Good Luck!

I have been researching my grandmothers family tree. I believe that Adam Snell born in Hagerstown, Washington MD; Death Jackson Twp, Clemont OH may be the same Adam you are a decentent of.
He had a daughter named Keziah ( possible she could be Kizzie). She married James Wood. I would be very interested in any information you have, if you would be so kind as to share.
Keziah was my 3rd great grandmother. I have been attempting to track the Scott, Wood, Snell family done on very little information.
Thank you for your time.
I have newspaper clippings of the obituaries of Elwood and William Ellsworth Spray and a small death notice of Mary Elizabeth Spray Macy.

The only information I have found about Rhoda Joseph is where she is listed in the old family Bible.
On that 1860 census, Rhoda Spray isn't a sibling, She's Elwood Spray's first wife, married earlier in 1860. I think Elizabeth Applegate, was Elizabeth Lamb Spray, and married Richard Applegate after the death of her husband, William Spray in 1850 or 1852.

It seems like a "yours, mine and ours" thing, as Asa P. Applegate was born to Elizabeth and Richard. I think all the Sprays on that census where from her, and all the Applegates were from him.

Can you confirm any of this? I see your post to this message board was 2008, so maybe you've found more since then.

I found a picture of Ed Snell taken in Dayton, Ohio if anyone can make a connection. Looks like around the turn of the century (but I could be wrong). Very nice looking young man.

My grandmother's name is Arvada Snell, and she gave birth to a daughter whom she named Dorothy. Perhaps my aunt is your namesake!

Arvada Snell is may paternal grandmother. Deward Yeater is my grandfather, though he died when my father, George William Dayton, was very young. Arvada later married James Dayton who adopted my father. Mr. Dayton died, and Arvada eventually married Melvin Baker. She died in 1998.

William Snell, Dorset, Devon & Somerset

William Snell was born 1813 in Dorset near Poole. He married Elizabeth Glanvill Potter and moved to Broadhembury in Devon where they had a bakery. He died in 1894 and she kept the bakery until her death in 1910. I believe they had 8 children. Their eldest son William Potter Snell owned a bakery in Williton, Somerset.Any further information about them or their ancestors would be much appreciated.
