Hi Dave,
I was going through the posts and found an old post regarding the Snoddy's in Carrickfergus. My snoddy Gr. Grandparents were married in Loughmourne Reformed Presbyterian Meeting House in Carrickfergus. Matthew Snoddy of Carnduff married Janet McDowell of Ballylesson 19 Nov 1868 in the Loughmorne Meeting House. Matthew Snoddy's father was James Snoddy, farmer in Carnduff (deceased.
When we were in Ireland (for the first time) last June, I took some photos of Snoddy tombstones including the following:

I don't have his obituary, but I have a photo of him dated 1886, Sedalia, MO.

His name (A. C. Snoddy) is listed on a program I have dated 1889 for a Valentine Party, La Monte, Mo. He was one of the providers of music.

Do you have any information on Herbert Snoddy, Jack's grandparents? I'd like to have guest access to the tree on ancestry and have asked the owner but have had no reply.
Finding it difficult to go further back then Herbert.
I have photos of Kelly, Jack's daughter, my niece and her family.
Thank you for the information, I did not know Jack had brothers or sisters.

I just found your posting on the Snoddy Bible and found you had listed Alexander Campbell Snoddy who was married to one of my ancestors Mary E. Potter. Thanks for helping me with some info. I would like to find their obituaries if you have them. I have more info on her Potter line if you are iterested. There was a Lera married to Herbert Snoddy in 1920-30's West Stayton Oregon. I believe this lady was related to my niece, Kelly Snoddy whose father was Jack Allen Snoddy-Oregon, related to Tex Snoddy...marion oregon, then to Herbert M. and Lera Snoddy.
There is a Snoddy family tree on ancestry I've been attempting to contact to get more information.

John SNODDY m Agnes GLASGOW

I have several questions concerning this couple, and perhaps someone can point me toward the answers.

A John Snoddy is said to have married an Agnes Glasgow at the 1st Presbyterian in Philadelphia 7 Oct 1741. The marriages in this church are available in the form of the work Linn and Egle 1880. They do include a marriage for a John Snoddy and Agnes, but it's dated 7 August 1741, and Agnes last name is not given. (replaced by a ___, probably meaning it was not legible.)

I find numerous lineages that identify this couple as settling near the town of Abingdon in Southwest Virginia about the time of the Revolution.

I find other lineages that identify this couple as settling in Buckingham County, Va about 1743.

I've no doubt that there was a John Snoddy in both of those locations at that time. My questions are related to the identification of his wife as "Agnes Glasgow"

First, how do people know that her last name was "Glasgow"?

Second, what is the basis for thinking that the first name of the Wife of John Snoddy of Buckingham Co was "Agnes"?

Thirdely, what is the basis for thinking that the first name of the Wife of John Snoddy of Abingdon was "Agnes"?

My great great grandparents were John Browne, 1813 – 1889 and Margaret McCord Snoddy Browne, 1817 – 1881. I’m a descendent of their son James Monroe Browne, 1848- 1935 and Sarah Ann Bates Browne, 1852 – 1889. Sarah was James’ 1st wife.

I’ll appreciate any information anyone can supply about these families and their siblings.

My grandfather was Richard Snoddy of Hendersonville, NC
I remember Aunt Ollie and Uncle Buford as a child.
My mother is the daughter of Richard Snoddy, Richard was married to Blanche Lively Snoddy. She had many children, one of them 61 years of age named Buford Filmore Snoddy. He just commited sucide Wednesday July 23, 2008. Google his name and read all about him. He was an accused 1st degree murderer, going for trial on Thursday the 24. He will be buried Monday July 28, 2008. All of the snoddy family is buried at Thospherds Funeral and Cemetery in Mountain Home, NC. Feel free to contact me for more info.

I'm trying to find information on my family from the Wellford (Beech Springs and Tacapau) Spartanburg County, South Carolina area whose matriarch was Mary Bomar. She was a slave born November 1840 and died October 1923. Mary's father's name was Anderson (b. July 1808) and had seven siblings. Her mother's name is not known. Mary lived on the Snoddy homestead (New Hope Farm), Wellford Community and was in the employ of Mr. J. R. Snoddy. Mary had 5 children named Memory, Ella, Anna, Rosa and Charlie. She is buried in the Florence Chapel Cemetery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On Aug 13, 1877, J.H. SNODDY (Rome, Smith Co, TN) wrote my great-grandfather William Monroe MCGEE/MCGHEE, saying that Snoddy had bought land from Mary McGee. Snoddy was checking to see if the title was clear -- Wm, not Mary , was actually owner. (This land -- 1/14 interest in 133 acres -- was willed by William OWENS to (James) William McGee, my gggrandfather.)

In 1884, Mary tried to sell 1/7th of a part of land. On May 29, 1884, T.B. SNODDY (Rome) wrote Wm Monroe to alert him. (Chatham Fivash had power of atty for Mary.)

I am wanting to know who my ancestors are. Wm Monroe & his brother James Marion were raised by aunt Martha (Smith) Finch in IN after their parents died. Finch family history says that boys were born in IL -- my dad & uncle's version is that this was a 'cover story' to hide Native American heritage.

Wm Monroe's parents were (James) William MCGEE and Lucinda SMITH (father was Peter) of Smith Co, TN. Can anyone help me link my McGee 'upstream' & find out more about Smiths too?

Looking for information on Charles Price SNODDY. The 1920 Census for Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon shows he was 35 years old at that time. It also shows he was married to Myrtle. His parents are listed as living with them The mothers name is Martha, but the fathers name is not clear enough to read. It does look like it starts with a J though. Charles was my maternal grandfather. It also looks like Charles was born in Iowa with both parents born in Texas. Charles and his wife Myrtle went on to have two children, a son named Robert Charles and a daughter named Martha Ruth. Any and all information would be appreciated.

If any one knows a Snody who married Martha Cox and she nay have married a Souther, my grandpa remembers it to be a Sims or a Sams. My uncle charlie cox and my grandpa Isaac Dillard cox agree the daughter married a Snoddy who was from Winston Salem. Charlie tooked the Casket of Martha and her husband, he was a teenager and his brother Walter also carried the caskets, they were buried above their house/cave on Sauratown Mountain. The house was a cave they built on the front a room and a porch it had cloth for door and window. I have a photo of the family and there was a Newspaper clipping of them, I am unable to find the clipping, but if any one recoginizes this story please e-mail me.
