Keith - several years ago you did me the kindness of sending me the information on the 290 people called Snuggs from Crondall. Due to my incompetence I've "lost" this file, being no longer able to open it. Could you send it to me again please ? I'm trying to see if there's a link between the Crondall group and my ancestors in the St. Geo the Martyr parish of London. I've got back to a Richard Snuggs, a wood turner, who married a Mary Churchman in 1793. Would be very grateful if you could help again.

I have a comprehensive record of the SNUGGS family from ACTON. in the U.K.
My GGGrandfather was W H Snuggs b 1798 in Hampshire (in the village of Preston candover)
My GGrandfather was W. Snuggs b1816 1818 in Hampshire (in the village of Preston candover)
My Grandfather was W. H. Snuggs b 1851 in Hampshire (in the village of Preston candover)
My Dad was C. R. Snuggs b 1898 in London
My Aunties Bessie, Lilly, Leena. b in London
My Uncles Frank, Hennry, Frederick.in London
From 1900 the family lived in Acton. Middx.
The Family lived at 43, Shakespeare Road. Acton. Middx.
My Grandfather was William H Snuggs born in the village Preston Candover, Hants.in 1851
He was a Journeyman Butcher and married my Grandmother Ellen M Snuggs in 1888 in Fulham.
In the 1901 census the Family address is given as 12 Winchester St. Acton, but the Family lived
for most of the time at 43 Shakespeare road Acton.
There is much I could tell you about the Snuggs family from Acton if it inerests you.
Also there is much I could tell you about other branches of the Snuggs's from about 1796
I have lots of info. on the village of Crondal (lots of Snuggs's in the church grave yard),
but not from my side of the family.( Crondal is about 16 miles from Preston candover)
there must be a connection with a name like SNUGGS between th villages Crondal and Preston candover
but I have yet to find it (I must do more research)
Crondal village church is worth a visit you may find a connection with your family if You ever vist the U.K. There is a a plaque in the wall of Crondal village church
which is dedicated to John and Thomasina Snuggs (1805) of that village.
I find tracing ones ancestors very enlightening and interesting, some of them were amazing people
and lived through truly amazing times.

At some time in the past your ancestors(with a name Snuggs)
came from Hampshire in England.

Just to pass on a chance discovery: the death certificate of GEORGE D. SNUGGS (d. 1912)gives the name of his parents: HENRY SNUGGS, father, and LUCY INGRAM, mother, both born in Stanly Co., NC. To my knowledge, Lucy's maiden name was previously unknown. I realize that one document should not constitute proof, but it is something. The death certificate may be accessed at:

Randall UMC in Norwood, NC was begun by the John Robert Snuggs and "Dumb" John Randle families (and others) who came from Virginia to the Yadkin River Valley in North Carolina during the middle 1700's. We have just redone our church website to include additional information about the church and it's history. The John Robert Snuggs home place is close to the church and is owned and inhabited by the 5th great grandson of John Robert Snuggs. This mistake was printed years ago by the Snuggs Family News out of Colorado. I wrote them many times and tryed to correct it. I don't think they ever did. They also print many other mistakes, including one that my youngest son was born in Arkansas when in fact he was born in California. He died in 1992 and he died in AR. his SS card was issued in AR. I have stopped reading their magazine, and suggest everyone else check anything out that is printed from there. I LEARNED THAT IF YOU DON'T CHECK OUT YOUR FACTS MANY MISTAKES ARE PASSED ON. i AM SORRY THIS WAS EVER PRINTED IN MY VERY EARLY RESEARCH. Dorothy Snuggs.

The Minnesota and Iowa Snuggs do not descend from the North Carolina Snuggs family. The Minnesota and Iowa Snuggs didn't immigrate to America until about 1850. The North Carolina Snuggs descend from a line that immigrated to Virginia in 1724.

My name is Ken Snuggs. I am 66 and live in middx.
I have a lot of info. regarding Crondal ( I have 2x books of the written histories of the village)
The Snuggs family is mentioned in both books. (where they lived and what there did).
Did you know that the Snuggs's and others of Crondal won the National Lottery in 1786 ( I think about £5000 between them). We think that all the Snuggs descend from the same line in Hampshire.
I have traced my lot to 1791 in the villages of (Swarraton,Preston Candover,Ropely, and Hursley) Hampshire.
At the moment I cannot connect my lot with Crondal, But there must be a connection as all the villages are only a few miles away.
Val my wife & myself, Doreen my sister, Jayne my daughter , Elaine my niece & NelI,
her daughter, visited Crondal last year to see what we could see.
We went to the Parish church in the village to look up our ancestors in the church grave yard.
There are Snuggs's all over the grave yard, and in the church wall there is a plaque to JOHN and THOMASINA SNUGGS.
Then on to the village pub to taste their roast beef and beer.
Any excuse for a booze up!
I hope that this info. may help you, I have lots more.

I have several John Snuggs' in my record. Do you happen to know who his wife was. There is a John Robert Pinkney Snuggs,1817-1893 (M. Sarah A. Sally Swearingen) son of John Robert Snuggs (M. Martha Unknown) both of NC. Although there is no John listed as a son,There certainly could be a son that moved west to Iowa-Minn named John.He has a Thomas Pinkney Snuggs, Martha, and Frances(could be M/F) as that is a common name for Snuggs men as well as women. That is the only 3 children I have listed and it is unlikely that is all he had.
I have several places to look. Is there any other information you can add. I am sure they are related. At this time we haven't found the link.
It took me a long time to find the link to my William R. Snuggs but finally did. John Robert Pinkney Snuggs is a brother to my William R. Snuggs who came to Arkansas before it was a state. He was here in 1835, by way of TN.
Have you searched wills and land records etc, in NC. for a connection?

DO you have any info on how the Iowa/Minnesota Snuggs' are connected to to the NC Snuggs'. My great Grandma had stories of them coming from NC. Connection throu a John Snuggs around 1833 but cant find his origins.

I have only now seen your reply. My uncle Ed was married to Aunt Edna the second time. He was a wonderful man who was very talented. I remembered him into old age as a gentleman who could sit on the floor, raise his legs over his head, and play the violin. You can imagine the amusement he created in the living room in front of the family! He taught me to play the coronet and my brother, the trombone.

I have a McElwain (various spellings) who m. Edwin J. Snuggs - I think in Michigan and, if so, probably in Barry Co. I didn't find any Snuggs in the 1880 census CD. Any chance you have them included in your group?

Snuggs in Halifax Co., VA

I am a Grizzle researcher. There was a William Snuggs in Halifax Co., VA around the 1750s. I have reason to believe that this William Snuggs began using the surname Grizzle. It is probable that his Snuggs father died and his mother remarried a Grizzle. Then he either was adopted by the Grizzle or just took his surname.

Have you found any connection to Virginia in your research? Also, would you or any Snuggs males that you may know be willing to take a dna test to see if you match any of the Grizzle lines who have taken the test?

Hi, I am the daughter of Leon Snuggs who was born in Barry County, Mi. His father was Fredrick Nelson who owned a hotel in Jackson. His wife's name was Elizabeth. He had an uncle Ed who lived in Kalamazoo who played in a marching band. This sounds like the same Ed. My father also had an uncle named Dave. We must be related?? Contact me.

I also came across this entry in Pioneers and Caviliers a number of years ago when I visited the Library of Virginai in Richmond. I also think that Art Dryer has seen this and entered it in his file.

It is one of the few if not the only reference to Robert Snuggs arrival in Virginia. The time sounds right.
