Thank you for responding. Do you know any of the descendants of William and Ethel? Trica,for some reason didn't send any information. Perhaps they don't want to connect. Do you know if any of Ethel's family went with her to California? I know my father really worried about the children. He didn't know how Ethel could make it alone with 4 small children. He has talked about how hard times were at that time. I really appreciate hearing from you.

I was reading your thread as I was trying to respond to Dennis Austin's emails and I saw through your communication that he died in 2001. That is said .. guess that's why there isn't a response to my email!

Anyway, I am a member of the Soards family - Ethel Soards' father, Henry, is my great-uncle. Ethel was the only child of Henry and Minnie Soards.

There are many living relatives of this line.

Antonio (DeSilva) Soares

Anotonio (DeSilva) Soares,of Coaldale, formerly of Freeland, died this morning at one o'clock in the Coaldale State Hospital, where he underwent an abdominal operation last Monday.
He was born in Portugal and came to this country with his wife and family early in the 1920 decade, settling in Freeland. He moved to Coaldale three years ago to work at the No. 6 operations of the Lehigh Navigation Coal Co.
He was a member of St. Joseph's church, Coaldale. Previously, he belonged to St. Anthony's church, in Freeland.
His wife and three children, who returned to Portugal in 1936, survive. A fourth child died in Freeland 17 years ago.
The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock from the John L. McGraw funeral home at 444 South Washington street, Freeland. A requiem high mass will be celebrated at 9:30 o'clock in St. Anthony's R.C. church, Freeland, and interment will be in the family plot in the parish cemetery. Viewing will begin Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

I am looking for any information on Simon Soares who married Mary or Maria. Simon was a few decades older than Mary when they married. They were both from Azores Islands the resided in Alameda County California.

I believe from the census of 1900 that Simon was born abt 1837 and Mary abt 1867 and married abt 1886 possibly earlier.

The spelling could have been different Suarez too

Yes, Catherine you were named after your granmother Catherine Marcella Perry (Soares). She's your real dad's mom. Your Real Grandfather's name is Edwin Manuel Soares. He died many years ago accordin' to info somewheres down in San Diego. Your real dad didn't spend much time w/ his dad accordin' to your real dad. Except when they did work together in the same place over in Old Monterey, CA. at the Cannery Row. Your real Grandfather was a fisherman and the BIG BOSS at Cannery ROw too. Thank you for responding . I just happened to go to this correspondence and found your reply. I am normally alerted when I have a reply but this time I wasn't.
I was told that Ethel and her children went to California. It is possible that they stopped for awhile in Texas. They left here after 1930. Since I can't access any newer census records, I don't know any more. Ethel b. 1899, Wm. H. b. 1922, Janice b. 1924, William M. b. 1927, Martha Jane b. 3 Mar 1929. Does this match? Does anybody have any info. of EDWIN MANUEL SOARES out of Monterey, CA. Monterey, County. He used to work for Cannery Row when it used to be the old fishing factory. Where they bought the fish in after it came in from the ocean. Edwin used to be the SUPERVISOR over CANNERY ROw for awhile there when it was in business. His son EDWARD WALTON SOARES had also worked there for awhile. I'd say around from the 40's through 50's/60's for at least Edwin in 40's and EDard during the 50's/60's. If anybody has any info. or pix it would be highly appreciated. need for family tree. Edwin was also married to EDward's mom CATHERINE MARCELLA GRIMES(PERRY)Soares. They had at least maybe 3 kids together.

Well, Edward Walton Soares had at least 1 to 3 sisters O kdear ma ought to know more of the family history. There was Catherine (Katie) Pauline and Frances. Grandpa's name was Edwin Manuel Soares andyes he was full blood Portguese From Portugal.

If Frances Rita is your grandmother then her brother Edward Walton Soares is your great uncle!!!!!!!! Last know he was in a home for awhile do to double punemonia and conjetive heart failure. Oh, I am so sorry to bring you sad news in such a brief note. I am more than happy to email all family info I have collected. I found several living descendants and I am also still in touch with one of the adoptees. She may appreciate learning more about her birth family. Her birth mother's family weren't close to their other relatives and knew very little. It's a touchy situation, I'll explain in my email.

I'm sooo glad I saved these files. It may take a bit of time for me to go thru it but don't worry, I will send you everything - NO CHARGE!! Just help someone else in return.

Wow, this family name brings back memories! I'm not related in any way - just a volunteer. It's been a while but I helped 2 adoptees find their maternal birth family (Janice Austin's daughter was their birth mother - Janice & daughter are deceased). I believe I still have all this family's information (that I was able to find) boxed up in storage & I have contact info. If I recall correctly, I don't think this family knew much about or were interested in the history of their ancestors, but I passed it on to them. If you are interested in names/dates of descendants for your records, I can email this privately. It may take a while to dig it all up.

I believe Rev. Dennis Keith Austin passed away in 2001. Apparently, he was a fathers' rights advocate & can be found if "Googled". I found an obit & tributes to him a few years ago. It's sad that he passed on before finding his birth family.

I have just started researching my family tree and discovered my family on my mothers side is descended from Emanuel Soares.
My great grand mother was his daughter Ellen Soares who married John Bailey. We have found a number of references to Emanuel Ignatious Soares (or Ignacious Manuel Soares)and his ships "South Carolina" and The Rose" both wrecked around Great barrier island in Auckland.

I need to find out where my grand mother born, she came to Brazil around 1911, a ship, South Hampton, to Port of Santos Sao Pau

So glad to see your query. I have been trying to connect with this family for years. William McKinley and Ethel Soards had the following children: William H. born ca 1922, Janice M. born ca 1924, William McKinley Austin born ca 1927, and Martha Jean Austin born ca 1929. William and Ethel divorced and I was told that Ethel took the children and went to California.
My father and William McKinley Austin were half brothers.
I tried to connect to Dennis Austin a year or so ago but with no luck. I am so hoping we are connected.

I am sorry, I was so upset when I found your information about the family. My Dad worried all his life about those children. Maybe it is a good thing that he is gone. I could not find anything on Dennis Keith Austin. I am not very good on the computer. The main reason I am writing is to tell you that I will be glad to pay for the copies, postage and other expenses. I would like to connect with any descendants who are still living. My Dad worried about them so much. The last time we saw any of them was in the early fifties. Ethel and one of her daughters came to visit us. My parents told them to stay in touch and let us know how they were doing. We never heard anything else.
Thank you for letting me ramble on. This has been my main objective, to find some of them.

It has been said that Catherine Marcella Grimes is my grandmother and therefore been named after her. my father is Edward Walton Soares Sr. I've been told he was the youngest of 11. now how correct that is i dont know. perhaps you may have more knowledge about your grandmother and even greatgrandmother.

My name is Mary Soares, I live in So. California but I was born in Berkeley, my dad R.L. Soares was born in Santa Maria, my grandfather Arthur possibly also was born around Santa Maria (along with 2 sisters - 1 named Aurora), my great-grandfather Manuel might have been born in mid or No. CA, but I'm not totally sure. All I know for sure is that the Soares part of my family comes from the Azores islands, that's what my dad said a couple times. I also have family from Northern CALIFORNIA {Salinas, Alameda County [ Oakland] , and Modesto]...The name Soares is Originally from Portugal meaning "Son of Soeiro"...I wasnt aware it was popular in the Azores though...its highly doubtful that it was changed...because Suarez is a Spanish name...unless he was mixed. Also I am looking for Information on Samuel and Jacob Soares. They were the initiators of a migration from Portugal> Jamaica> Northern CALIFORNIA. If anyone has any further information please let me know.....thanks..
