There is more than one Ryan Solana on FB. I'm the only Crystal Solana Bryan, so send me a friend request. Also, we can share trees so you can get the info you're looking for off of mine.

I have a Herbert Matthew Solana in my tree as a 1st cousin 2x removed. So he was my grandmother's first cousin. His father would be Matthew Simeon Solana, then Mateo Simeon Solana, then Bartolome A Solana, then Manuel Lorenzo Solana. I have Lester as still living on my tree right now. He's actually where my info stops, coming forward in time from our common ancestor on your line. That's Mateo Simeon Solana. My Great great grandfather. I think you have an extra great. :)

There is a group on FB you might be interested in, the Los Floridanos Society. Descendants of the 2 Spaniards that stayed in St. Augustine during the British Period. There's also a real life group, yearly dues and all. But, they meet and trade geneology and meet each other and trade family stories too.

My grandmother was Hazel Solana Bryan, her dad was William Solana (also Guillaume) and her mother was Fannie Carter Solana. My dad, Cole Bryan, and grandmother traced our family back to the same origins as yours. We go through Manuel Solana, who built what is now Casa de Solana on Aviles St., though we always called it the Charlotte St. house because that's the side the original public front door was. He also had a bunch of descendants on the Masters' side, as his first wife re-married and their children took the step-father's name from what I remember.

Do you trace through him as well? If you do, you might want to look into Los Floridanos, a group of people descended from him and the one Sanchez that stayed through the last English occupation.

There is a group called Los Floridanos that has many members who do genelogical research. They are all Solana's and Sanchez' as they are the 2 families proven to have had at least one member stay in St. Augustine through all the various occupations by govt's other than Spain. Both families have spread all over the place though, when you think only one member needed to stay, other members left permanently. The group is on FaceBook and has a website that is under construction currently.

My dad and grandmother traced our family back to Don Vincente Solana, my grandmother was Hazel Solana Bryan. As I can I will be adding their research to my tree here. I just started tonight and it's too late to go digging for the records.

I'd love to share with everyone else!

I was looking for information on the Solana family and saw this thread. My grandfather was from Santander and his name was Jose Solana. My father's name was Jose Solana and uncle's name is Fransisco Solana. We have always lived in New Jersey. My grandmother's maiden name was Dosil and was from Lourdes but that is about all we know about the family. I dont know if you are aware of any family that made it up here but was curious.

I'm from Spain. My grandfather was Aurelio Solana, and he had blue eyes, blonde hair an fair skin (like most of his brothers, who also lived in Cuba and worked on trade).
He was born in 1898 in Cantabria (Spain) and went to Cuba when he was 16. He came back to Spain in the 30's, and never returned again. I wonder if my granfather or one of his relatives are also your relatives. I know that one of them was called Luis.

SURNAME BIBLE

Anyone wanting to look up the origins of spanish surnames needs to look them up in the bible of spanish surnames by Alberto and Arturo Garcia Carraffa the "Diccionario Heraldico y Genealogico de Apellidios Espanoles y Americanos"!!! The Library of Congress's ( www.loc.gov) Hispanic Reading Room has indexed all the surnames in this 80 Volume work, so you can enter your name and do a search. If its listed then you can contact the LDS family centers and order the microfilm and if you can read some spanish find out where in Spain your surname comes from. If not have it translated, its that helpful!

Hello all,
My great-grandmother was Hattie Solana
Hudnall, one of her children {my aunt},
Esther Hudnall {Cochran} Melvin gave me
a book with the Solana family listing back
to when our family member landed in St.
Augustine, Fl. {Vincent Solana}, his
marriage record is the oldest known record
todate (refer to National Geographic Feb1968
I think) it was St. Augustine's 200th birth-
day. I have more info, names and dates and
some pictures. Would like to hear from someone.

Thanks for your time,
Calvin Ray-

RE: Solanas

No, I'm Amercan born and raised (NYC). My dad is Cuban, although his father is a Solana from Spain. His father had light eyes and hair, with fair skin. My grandmother, on the other hand is Afro-Cuban. She and my grandfather met in Cuba in the mid to late 40s. Not much is known about my grandfather since he commited suicide when my dad was 5 years old (in Cuba). They lived in the town of Santiago de Cuba. I take my fair skin from my mom who is Puerto Rican. I do have some black qualities, however. I have some beauty marks on my face that my grandmother says are typical of Spainiards.

My family came down from the mountains of Monte Jurro, came out of the valleys of the Kingdom of Navarre and crossed the wide Atlantic to the shores of Spanish Florida where they settled. It is a First Spanish Family in St. Augustine. Are you from Spain?

What part of Spain exactly does your grandmother come from? My dad told me that his father was from The Castille region of northern Spain. I know his father also had a few brothers and sisters too.

RE: Solana Name

Hi! I don't know of many Solanas in the states so maybe we have some common ancestors. I know my father's father (Ignacio) was a Solana. He was originally from Spain, but lived in Cuba for several years in the fifties. Unfortunately I have no other information on him as he died when my dad was four years old. Please let me know of any details you have as to your name's origin. I would very much like to find out more about the Solana history.
