My name's Mark Solari and my family is from East Boston, MA. I don't have anything specific regarding your family names, but several of them are common to my family. My father is Robert John. His father was Andrew (Andrea)Michael(b. 1899); he had a sister Louise (1903) and a brother Edmund (1906). Their father was Louis (b.1875) and their mother was Louisa (Rosawalli?)(b.1876). Louis had 2 brothers Andrea (b.1871) and Charles (b.1877) and two siaters Rosa (b.1873) and Eva (b. 1884). Their father was Michele (b. 1846 in Genoa)) and their mother was Mary (b. 1851) Unfortunately the name Solari is like Smith in Genoa.
Also, in the 1880 Federal census Michele lived with his family at 3 Baston (Barton) Court (East Boston or the North End). At 6 Baston Ct. was a John Solari (b. 1847) with his 2 sons Joseph (b.1873) and John (b. 1875).
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Mark Solari

I believe I have a relative named Frederick Solari. Not sure if he was a great-great grandfather or great uncle or something like that.
My grandfather's name was Francis Joseph (1889?-1951), he was born in Genoa and was brought to the US by his parents at age 2. He worked for the postal service in Boston and married Mary (McMackin) of South Boston, Massachusetts. Their first son (my father) was Francis Joseph II (1914-1970). A daughter, Mary followed and a second son, Hugh came afterwards. All lived in the Brighton section of the city of Boston, Massachusetts USA. Hugh is the only surviving member of that family.
I've heard about Argentina as a place where some of the Solari's emigrated to, along with California. Also have heard that the family originated in Cosenza, Italy.

Thanks,
Mary Ann

My grandfather was supposedly born in Genoa, Italy. We think in 1889 or so. His name was Francis Joseph Solari, and he came to America with his parents at the age of 2. They settled in Boston, Massachusetts.
My Grandfather worked for the post office in Boston/Brighton, MA and married Mary McMackin of South Boston. They had three children, (my father) Francis Joseph II, a daughter Mary and another son, Hugh. All were raised in Brighton, with my Uncle Hugh being the only living sibling.
Have you heard about relatives originating in Cosenza, Italy near the southern tip of the country? I've seen documentation that that city is where the Solari's originated from.

The name John Solari is vaguely familiar, and I do recall something about twins in the family, but am not sure if they were in our immediate family or not. There was talk a while ago about relatives in South America and I've seen a website taking about the Solari Family Winery in California. Not sure if they're related or not.

There is supposedly a Solari Square in the North End - I've never been able to find it and don't know which Solari it is dedicated to.

Your names do not sound familiar either, sorry. I'd love to see the pix if you can send them though. The ones I've seen of my family members from early 1900s are not online unfortunately, only in print. The one common trait are the big dark brown eyes - there is no mistaking that they are Solairi's.

Have you ever heard about Cosenza, Italy? That is supposedly where the family originally came from.

Thanks for the info, Chris.
-Mary Ann

My father, Francis Joseph Solari II of Boston (Brighton) Massachusetts his father, Francis Joseph Solari I of Boston, born in Italy, possibly Genoa, late 1800s.
My grandfather married around 1912? (not sure) to Mary McMackin of South Boston, my father was born in 1914 in Brighton, MA., his sister, Mary was born shortly after and another brother, Hugh Solari was born later on. Not sure of the years.
My father, Francis Solari II died in 1970, his sister Mary (my aunt) died in 2006. Hugh (my uncle) lives in Brighton, MA.
We have several cousins living in Massachusetts and most of us believe the family originated in Cosenza, Italy.
There is a funny story that when the family came to America and were going thru customs at Ellis Island, that the person who asked my Great Grandfather his name, Francis Solari, misinterpreted what he said, and wrote down, Francis S. O'Leary. We almost became an Irish family.

SOLARI Family from Genoa, Italy (also Cosenza)

Francis Joseph Solari of Genoa but his family had originated in Cosenza, Italy. He was my grandfather, born in the late 1800s, I don't know the exact year, came to America with his parents when he was about 2 years old. They settled in Brighton, MA (part of Boston).
In seeing family photographs of relatives in Italy from the early 1900s, I've always felt that the Solari's must have originally been from India. They resembled people from India, were very dark skinned and had very large dark eyes. If you saw them, you would believe they were from India, not Italy. Anyone else have any info on this?

I have no further information other than a snippet my late aunt left me many years ago. My grandmother, Inez Barbier(daughter of Clementina Astori) married John Sykes in Alexandria, Egypt in 1917. The witnesses to this marriage were Alex. Gasser and Alfred Fiteni. My aunt mentioned there was a cousin called Peter Solari (who enjoyed the odd spot of gambling). I always wait for someone to possibly step forward. Many thanks from Averil in Australia.

In response to Karen Schaffer.............
Basically we haven't gotten very far on collecting data. You might want to look at the rootsweb :2651356. The Solari family that I'm connected to lives in Stockton, San Joaquin County. Some of the info needs correction and it's a work in progress. Recently we found a Stockton Record Obit of Stephano Solari dated Monday, January 13, 1936. Stephano/Stefano/Stianin(g) are the same person. Note that Stefano married a Carmelita Solari (distant cousin). Does this sound familiar. Carmelita was not from Stockton but Novato?? I'm unsure of this though. In any case the obit (front page of Stockton Record is lengthy with good info and a good read). Stefano and Salvatore Solari were brothers. Their parents were Giuseppe and Magdalena Sanguineti Solari. Parents are buried in the Village of Sanguineto which is sort of a part of Chiavari. It's on the road to the village of Leivi. A larger than life statue of Giuseppe commissioned by Salvatore (1923) marks the grave of their father. Truly a work of a master artist-- it's exciting to be there and what a panoramic view of the city and sea below. We are looking for other siblings of Stefano and Salvatore. In this village there are also large mausoleum type crypts with the family name of Zignego on them, which is why I reponded to Argentina's inquiry about the name Solari. These large crypts also exist in the San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery in Stockton which is interesting. My great grandfather was Salvatore Solari (Brother of Stefano/Stephano/Stianin(g). Salvatore married Teresa Sanguinetti/Sanguineti. See the roots web noted above for more details.

Louise Solari Sibi was my grandmother. Her parents were Louis and Teresa Montimonica Solari. She was born in 1885 near Stopoli, Chiavari, Genoa. Don't know if she came to the US alone or with her parents. Have not been able to locate them on any census or at Ellis Island yet. She married here sometime after 1903 (when my grandfather came through Ellis Island). They lived in Hudson County, NJ and raised five boys. She died in 1943. Can anyone make any connection to these Solari's? Please post any responses as this is really for Andrea Sibi Cobb.

BOOK: Missouri- One Hundred Years Ago - The Community Drama - Joseph SOLARI, Asst. Director

I bought a book published in 1921by The Saint Louis Missouri Centennial Association. This is a copy of the original programme and script for this community drama. It was held at The Coliseum in St. Louis, MO from October 11th to 15th, 1921. The script was written by Thomas Wood Stevens. The drama commemorated Missouri's entrance into the Union in 1820.

There are a number of references to Joseph Solari and his work on this production. I believe it would be a wonderful addition to a family member or family researcher for this Solari family.

Please contact me if you have an interest in this book.

Kathy Wieland in St. Louis, MO

My husband's grgrandmother was Paulina Rosa Solari, daughter of Giuseppe (Joseph) and Anna Solari. The parents immigrated from Italy in about 1870 and settled in the Novato-Sonoma area. They had six children, David, Victor, Tony, John Rosa and Lena. I know that Lena married a Hansen. Paulina Rosa married Giovanni Battista Leveroni in 1880 in Sonoma County. Could your Victor be maybe a part of this family?

Hello,

I'm reading your inquiry and wondering if the name signeto is zignego?? Since you are unsure of the spelling?? and if Juan Bautista is Gian Bautista. The names Solari and Zignego occur in my family which immigrated from Chiavari/Sanguineto Prov. Genoa in the late 1800's to Stockton, San Joaquin County, California.
