Re Henry Somerset 2nd Earl of Worcester. He had a daughter Lucy Somerset and 5 other children. No issue from first wife and I have checked ancestry for the 4 children I know of - found no connections to a Catharine Evans or John Bevan.

Thank you! Catharine Evans is an ancestor of John Bevan, of Treverigg, Glamorganshire, Wales. This ancestry back to King Edward III is supposedly well-known, a book has been written about it, but I can't get a copy of the book, and can't fill in the gap between Catharine Evans and her great-great grandfather, Henry Somerset. All of the people mentioned are my ancestors, including John Bevan. Any information you or anyone else may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

With regard to your query, my family descend from Sir Henry Somerset 2nd Earl of Worcester who married (1)Margaret Courtney and (2)Elizabeth Browne - their children were, Anne Somerset, Lady Jane Somerset, Sir William Somerset (3rd Earl of Worcester- my ancestor).

Hello, I am a descendant of the Somersets. Catharine Evans, my 14th Great grandmother, was a great-great granddaughter of Henry Somerset, 2nd Earl of Worcester. I am looking to fill in the gaps between Catharine Evans, Henry Somerset, and Henry Somerset, and Henry Plantaganet Beaufort, and Henry Beaufort and King Edward III, his great-great grandson. Hi, in replyto your message. My great grandfather x 13 was Sir Charles Somerset (1st Earl of Worcester). He was married to Elizabeth Herbert. His son Sir Henry Somerset was my Great Grandfather x 12 who was the 2nd Earl of Worcester. He was married to Elizabeth Browne. The only Eleanor I see in my line is Lady Eleanor Beauchamp who was married to Sir Edmund Beaufort 1st Duke of Somerset (he was my Great grandfather x 15).

If you need further help, please advise I may be able to help. Are you a descendant of the Somersets?

Further info for you. Frances Hastings married Sir Henry Compton 1st Lord Compton son of Peter Compton and Anne Talbot. Their children were Sir Thomas Compton who married Mary Beaumont Countess of Buckingham - she was the daughter of Anthony Beaumont and Anne Armstrong. William Compton 1st Earl of Northampton married Elizabeth Spencer daughter of Sir John Spencer - their children were Lady Anne Compton and Spencer Compton 2nd Earl of Northampton.

My G. Grandfather x 10 was Sir Edward Somerset, 4th Earl of Worcester. He married Lady Elizabeth Hastings daugther of Francis Hastngs 2nd Earl of Huntingdon. Frances Hastings was his daughter and Elizabeth Hastings sister. Elizabeth Hastings children were Sir Thomas Somerset, Lady Katherine Somerset, Hon. Sir Charles Somerset, Sir William Somerset, Henry Somerset (Marquess of Worcester - my ancestor) and Lady Blanche Somerset. Her mother was Catherine Pole, daughter of Sir Henry Pole 1st Lord Montagu. Francis Hastings was the son of George Hastings and Anne Stafford.

On the death of George Francis Hugh Cambridge 1981 the 2nd Marquess of Cambridge. My father became the 3rd Marquess, on his death I had become the 2nd Marchioness of Cambridge. Colleen Iris Mary Hastings Cambridge.

Mary was the the 2nd Issue of Margaret Evelyn (nee Grosvenor) and Prince Adolphus of Cambridge.

George William was the true inheritor of the then thorne of Scotland and England. Queen Victoria should not had been crowned Queen. The now royals are not the true inheritors to the now throne.

You're right, it does say Surnames in the description. I hadn't noticed, as I usually read via the mailing list that this board gets gated to, and that is for the county of Somerset.

So taking that into account you'll appreciate why I posted here.

Yes I also realise that 'of the parish' can sometimes only mean that the person living there at the time of marriage, but I have not traced any christening there or in the surrounding area that might be her at this moment in time.

Thus I was posting here in case anyone had happened to have looked into the Somerset lines in this area.

If this is now only a county board rather than a surname board, you might want to ask ancestry to change the linking for it, as it is certainly not listed under the county section.

First, this board/list are aimed at the County of Somerset, not the surname SOMERSET, so you may wish to send your query to the Wiltshire list for a better chance of contact.

Second, you say she was "of this parish" at the time of her marriage. That only means she was living there at that time, and possibly only for a short period of time, it does not in any way mean she was born or baptised there.

Glad to help. My only question is Frances' mother's first name. I've been unable to find a Frances/Francis female that survived to adulthood. So the question is whether her first name is Frances or Elizabeth, but am pretty sure we have the correct father.

I checked with my mother on this line again and she says, Edward Somerset, Earl of Worcester lived in Llantarnum, Monmouthshire, married to LADY FRANCIS HASTINGS, daughter of the 2nd Earl of Huntingdon, a descendant of Edward III. She got the info from a book on the Morgans sent to her from an Eula Long of Salem, OR, she received the book from a Mary E Butler, of the Morgan House in PA. I'm assuming this info is correct, as I've had as little luck as you in confirming any alternatives.

Hello! No, I have not been to that reunion in Troy, but I did go to a HARRIS reunion there about 3 years ago. My grandmother was RUTH JUSTICE SKINNER, daughter of CARRIE MAE HARRIS and Dr. FRANK JUSTICE..Carrie and Lizzy were sisters! and Carrie died in 1918..My grandmother was closest to her aunts Lizzy and Fanny (Bassett)..we all lived in Brewton, Alabama, and she died in 1983.
I was hoping to find out the locations and names of Carl Bea's daughters in hopes that someone would have some old photos or other family news. I have been very fortunate to find internet members who have been very helpful, and even located some cousins! Anything else you may could provide would be greatly appreciated! I personally never met Uncle Carl that I remember, but met Aunt Lizzy a few times and had her play "This Old House" on the Piano for us.

The information I have was researched by others and it has been passed on to me. I feel that it is accurate but pass it on as information not all verified. The birth and death dates indicated Est. are estimated dates established by someone else and span a rather broad time frame. The dates without the Est. indication are from actual records:

Lott: b. Est. 1784-1814, d. Est. 1841-1898
William:. b. Est. 1739-1768, d. 1787 Bladen County, NC
Benjamin: b. Est. 1740-1798, d. Est. 1763-1876

C. William married Frances Sheriff and their children were:

There were also three daughters ( names not known ) and another son Allen born
after William died and adopted by Frances' second husband Stephen Barfield.

great grandparents and are buried in the family plot at the original Pike County
homestead near Troy, AL.
There is additional information compiled by other descendants of Seymore

Lizzy and Carl Somerset were my aunt and uncle. Carl was my Dad's oldest brother, both have been deceased for some time now. Carl Bea, as she was known to the family, was their daughter and married Howard Bates. They lived in Tuscaloosa, AL and had two daughters. Linda and Betty. Howard and Carl Bea are also now deceased. As far as we know, Linda and Betty are both still in Tuscaloosa but we have had no contact with them for many years now. Somersets in England

I have traced my line back to Watkin (or William) Vaughan in Glamorgan, England. Since I live in the US I am having a difficult time determining who his mother was and whom he married. I have found conflicting information regarding the role that Eleanor and Henry Somerset played in his life. Some sources have Eleanor as his mother and others as his wife (with no issue).

Watkin married Joan Ychan (verch Evan ap Gwilym) and had a child, William (who later was knighted). William Vaughan married Catharine Harvard (verch Jenkin Harvard) and they had many children, including Catharine Vaughan (who married David Evans, Sheriff of Glamorgan).

Since this is the Somerset board I am hoping someone would have information on Eleanor and Henry Somerset. I know the Henry is the son of Charles Beaufort Somerset and Elizabeth Herbert. Charles was the Earl of Worcester.

My father was at the WW11 UK Europe Continental.

Looking for connection of Somerset/Summerset family to "Summersett" Dyson, b. 1839 Columbus County, NC and d. 1905 Florence County, SC. His father was James Dyson, and his grandfather was Solomon Dyson. His mother's name was Nancy - was she a daughter or granddaughter of William Summersett who died c1790 in Bladen County? Have found Dysons and Summersetts witnessing each others deeds and wills in Columbus County and Lovett Peacock left his heirs "the H. J. I am searching for a christening for Jane SOMERSET c. 1805 in or around Manningford Bruce Wiltshire.

Her marriage record in 1825 in Manningford Bruce to John COLES states she was 'of the parish' - but I cannot trace a christening for her there. I'm not even sure the Somerset family were in Manningford around that time.

If anyone can help or has any ideas which family she may belong to please let me know. I know there were large Somerset families in the area at the time - but I am having trouble linking Jane up to any of them.
