      <description>The Oklahoman&lt;br&gt;07-08-1906&lt;br&gt;p.1&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;TO KILL MINISTER&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;PLOT REVEALED SHOWS THAT HIGHBINDERS WANTED TO KILL MISSIONARY&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;THE ATTEMPT WAS MADE&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Coroner's Inquest Reveals a Horrible Cesspool of Crime in Heart of Philadelphia&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Philadelphia, July 7 - Sensational testimony was offered&lt;br&gt;today at the coroner's inquest in the case of Dong Soo, a&lt;br&gt;Chinaman who died from gunshot wounds received during a&lt;br&gt;factional fight in Chinatown on the night od July 4.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Lee Toy, who was long known as the "Mayor of Chinatown,"&lt;br&gt;testified that at a recent meeting of a band of &lt;br&gt;"Highbinders," several men were marked for assassination,&lt;br&gt;among them Rev. Frederick Poole, an Episcopal missionary&lt;br&gt;who is located in the Chinese district.  Mr Poole was&lt;br&gt;shot during the disturbance on July 4, and is now in a&lt;br&gt;hospital.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Lee Toy stated that the murders were to be committed during&lt;br&gt;the celebration of Independence day.  He further testified&lt;br&gt;that he saw Yung Gow aim at Dong Soo.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Yung Gow, Mok Kin and Yun Why Joe were committed without&lt;br&gt;bail to await the action of the grand jury.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Since the shooting representatives of the Hip Sing Tong and&lt;br&gt;On Ox Leong Long factions have signed a peace compact.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation***&lt;br&gt;</description>
