I don't know if there is any connection, but I am looking for a Louis F. Soos who lived in South River, N.J. He married a Genevieve M. Smolinski and had two daughters.
Louis Soos was born around 1910 and died around 1983.

Body of NT Man Is Recovered From River at Niagara Falls
The body of a man identified as Stephen J. Soos, 58, of 46 Sweeney St., North Tonawanda, was recovered yesterday afternoon from the Niagara River at the foot of 13th St., Niagara Falls.
Mr. Soos’ body was first sighted by an unidentified fisherman who notified Cpl. Dominic Conti of the Niagara Frontier State Park Police at 3:05 p.m.
It was recovered by Cpl. Conti and Niagara Falls firemen in a Civil Defense fire rescue boat. Officials estimated that the body had been in the water for about a week.
Lt. Joseph Musgrave of Tonawanda, head of the State Park Police, said identification was initially made from scars, dental work, clothing and papers found on the body.
Police Chief Grimaldi of North Tonawanda today assigned Patrolmen Edward Belbas and William DeMonte to assist Lt. Musgrave in inspecting medical and dental records available locally on Mr. Soos. The trio also planned to attempt to trace the last known movements of the man.
Lt. Musgrave said a relative of Mr. Soos said she believed she has seen the man last about a week ago.
Niagara County Coroner F. Eugene Ingram, who also is taking part in the investigation, said a post mortem examination would be made this afternoon to determine the exact cause of death.
Lt. Musgrave said the body was clothed in dungarees, a bowling shirt lettered with “John’s Grill” and the name “Stephen Sods” (apparently a misspelling of Soos) and brown shoes. A wallet in the clothing contained papers with the name Stephen Soos and his former address, 184 Schenck St., but no money.
Authorities said their investigation showed Mr. Soos had been separated from his wife, Mrs. Mildred Soos, for about a year. Mrs. Soos is employed by the Niagara County Welfare Department in its NT office.

Four sisters, Mrs. Allen Rathwell of Hamburg, Mrs. Norman Limburg and Mrs. Francis Kennedy, both of Buffalo, and Mrs. Charles Kell of North Tonawanda, and six brothers, Louis of San Diego, Calif, Nick of Baltimore, Md., and Albert, Alex, Edward, and James, all of North Tonawanda, also survive. He was a member of the Active Hose Company. Friends may call at the Wattengel Funeral Home, 307 Oliver St., from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Private services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Charles E. Burgess officiating. Interment in Bear Ridge Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.

He leaves his wife, Rose; seven sons, Stephen, Jr., Albert, Alexander, Edward and James of North Tonawanda, Louis, who is attached to the Merchant Marine, and Nicholas of the Coast Guard; four daughters, Mrs. Allen Rathwell, Mrs. Francis Kennedy, Mrs. Charles Kell of Buffalo and Mrs. Neal Spencer of New York city; 11 grandchildren, a brother and two sisters of Hungary. Rites will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the residence, the Rev. Hermann Miller officiating. Burial will be in the City cemetery.

I am looking for information on my grandfather's family. My grandfather, George Soos, came to the U.S. in 1904 and settled in South Fork, PA. He married my grandmother, Zuzanna (Suiza, Suzy) Golya in 1905. Later changed the spelling of his last name to Sosh. Worked in the coal mines and later in the steel mills in PA and IND. I know only that he is from Hungary and would appreciate any information anyone can help me with.

My grandmother was Erzsébet Soós and she lived in Sajókaza (very closed to Sajóecseg). She mentioned, when she was young (in the '20), somebody sent to her and her daughter two ship-tickets from US or Canada, i don't know exatly, who sent these tickets, but maybe her cousin (she never vent to US)... My grandmother parents lived in Sajókaza, also...

I did find where my Katalin came to the US in 1907.
Ecaterina Rose LIEHN Soos arrived in Baltimore on Saturday JUL 20, 1907 aboard the SS Brandenburg.
She was described as 27 years old, widow, maid/servant from Sarkany, Fagaras, mother Anna Liehn
4' 11" tall, going to Fremont, OH to see brother Johann Liehn

I have notes that a Istvan Soos came to Aliance Ohio aboard the Caronia, departing Liverpool on October 17th, 1905 and arriving at New York on October 25th, 1905. He was from földvár (Marienburg, Feldioara)

The part where she said she was a widow, may or may not be true. I have found several who say that to save face.

I am also researching the Soos Family. They where from Veszprem, Hungary. My greatgreat grandfather came to the United States in 1901 and settled in Akron, Ohio.

He was married to a Elizabeth Swolh (?) the spelling was real hard to read in the 1920 Census. They had three children. The son Louis died at a young age while they where still in Hungary, two daughters Elizabeth and Catherine they came with Elizabeth in 1904.

Did you have any relatives that settled there?

I know the names of Stephens (Steven) Soos's parents.

I live in Virginia but still have a lot of family in Ohio.

Juey, I am also researching the name Soos from Veszprem.

My greatgreat grandfather came to the United States in 1901 and settled in Akron, Ohio. His name is Stephen Soos.

His wife Elizabeth and youngest daughter Catherine "Kitty" came over in 1904. Her maiden name was Swolh (?) the name was real hard to read in the 1920 Census.

I've been trying to find info on my Soos' family. My great grandfather is Francis Soos' , born in Kisfau, Vas, Hungary? He married Mary Pajesis, born in Csa Kany, Vas, Hungary? They immigrated to the U.S.sometime before 1910 with their children. My grandmother Rose Soos' was born Aug. 29 1910 in Perth Amboy, Middlesex, New Jersey, and her brother John was born Sept. 9, 1913 in New Jersey as well. Rose's other siblings are Joseph, Mary, Frank, Anna, Julie, Steve, and Helen. All born in Hungary. After John was born, sometime after 1913 the family moved back to Hungary. My grandmother Rose came back to the U.S. by herself when she was older and lived in Great Falls, Mont. This is all I know about my Soos' family. Does anyone have any info they can share with me. Stephen (tstven) Soos who was my great grandfather married Marie/Maria or Mary Kohler/ Koler it is said that they both came from Hungry But date is unclear somewhere in the early 1900's he resided in Pennsylvania had several children (11) some of whom died at birth or soon after. It has also been said that he was some sort of king of the gypsies...
They are both burried in Palmerton, Pa cemetary ..On this date i have gotten some information but nothing back further then both Stephen and Maria.

I am trying to research Joszef Sos b. Apr. 17, 1867 in Vesprem, Hungary. I think he is the same one that immigrated to USA in 1903 on the Friesiand out of Antwerp, Belgium. He listed his residence as Sarosd and his destination as Ohio. The ships record shows several men from the same village traveling on that ship. I have no other information on him before he came to the US. Any information would be helpful.

I too am researching Sos or Soos. Joszef Sos born in Hungary abt. 1867, he was orphaned as a child, raised by an aunt. He came to the USA at least twice. The first time I think he went to Indiana. I found that a Soos I was searching for on the Ellis Island site was spelled "SOS". You might want to check for that spelling. They apparently came from an Austrian port. The race would be "MAGYAR" or gypsy. I am searching for information on Ferenez Soos who came on the Caronia in 1907 and had a destination of Niles, Ohio. Any Soos' out there from that area??

I am looking for a Stefan SOOS who married Ecaterina LIEHN in Sercaia, Brasov,Romania on March 25, 1898.
Ecaterina was born in Sercaia on July 23, 1879. They had a daughter Irene Soos on Aug 17, 1904.
Ecaterina came to the USA about 1905. Irene came to the USA in 1920 with her grandmother Anna GREAF LIEHN.
We don't know what ever happened to Stefen SOÓS. He may also have come to the USA in 1905. I find Ecaterina (Rose)remarrying in Detroit in 1909. Could this family be related to you in any way? Would you know what happened to Stefen?

don't have any info on your family history , but my maiden name is soos,and my grandmother's maiden name is baylog,find it interesting that soos's and baylog's also married in canada(my family is mostly located in manitoba,but my father moved to alberta as a teen) just started looking around on the net trying to find family coats of arms or family crest, if any exist,and i stumbled upon this site,would be neat to know if i am related to any of the people posting here.

I am searching for relatives of my grandfather David Altfater; we know of no siblings or other relatives of his. There are other Altfaters in Ohio, but no one has claimed to be related. Our family is Jewish, and my grandfather was very Orthodox--but other Altfaters I have found are not Jewish. Maybe they were originally, left Judaism, and my grandfather then refused to acknowledge them?

Do you have any info on your grandfather Steve's family?

Indiana married.Info:South Bend Healing Center records.I am far relatived of Adalbert.He was the doctor of eyes.
Was Cecelia Szabo the mother of Audrey Soos?
Audrey was the daughter of Adalbert.She was born 1928

I was mistaking the name ,because the writing is not
good readable.Also Adalbert Soos' daughter is perhaps
Anne Soos. I am Sorry for Audrey Soos.
Also I found Anne Soos was married with Joseph Solzan
and living in Illinois. Best regards for Anne and the
family.
I found Adalbert had a second name :Bela
and had a son Roland W Soos
I found Roland was in South Bend IN living (2000 Year

I am trying to locate more information on STEPHEN SOOS and His Wife Mary KOEHLER? KOLER? KHOLER?
from Hungary....

1920 & 1930 lived in same home
Stephen born abt 1881 Mary b about 1888- hungarian born
in
1920 it list.. 7 children Sarah, Mary, Joseph, Stephen, Margaret, Irene and John
1930 it lists..8 children Julius,Stephen, Margaret, Irene, John, Valeria, Elsie and Marcella

Immigrated about 1905

Stephen ( the father) was a laborer. for Zinc Co. Palmerton

I would like to find out more information about the Hungarian roots..who are theri parents.. and if any other family memebers came over with Stephen.

I will go to the local cemetery and find the necessary dates when the weather is a bit warmer....
Mom has since passed since my last postings about this family and sadly enough her records are " misssing"

any help would be greatly appreciated....
