Seeking information on a Bill Sooter who my family history says was killed by bushwackers in Yell County, Arkansas during the Civil War. He was with my ancestors, Pettus McBride or Pettus Shott. Sooter was killed as he and Pettus attempted to protect the women and children from the Yankees. May be the William Leonard Sooter (1835-1863) who posting on Rootsweb said was killed by bushwhackers "while returning from war", but saying it happened in Benton Co., Arkansas. Descendants of this Sooter were in Missouri.
