Ware – Romuald A. Sorel, 78, of 8 Mechanic Street, retired spinner for Hampshire Woolen Co., died Thursday (Dec. 31) in Mary Lane Hospital. Born in St. Mathias, Quebec, Canada, he lived here 70 years and was a member of St. Jean Baptiste Society. He leaves his wife, the former Mildred A. Rymarski; two sons, Romuald C. and Gilbert M., both of Ware, and two grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday morning at Charbonneau Funeral Home and in St. Mary's Church with burial in the parish cemetery.

Ware - Roland E. Sorel, 65, of 35 Aspen Street, lifelong resident and retired employee of the state Department of Public Works, died Monday (September 6) at home. He was a special policeman. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and member of Aspen Street Rod and Gun Club, Grange, White Eagles Cribbage League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW Pitch League, and Golden Age Club. He leaves his wife, the former Marie Charbonneau; two sons, Roland J. and Thomas R., both of Ware; three daughters, Anita M. Kwasniewski, Paulette Charpentier, both of Ware, and Margaret Sorel of West Dover, VT; three brothers, Raymond and Bernard of Ware, and Edward of Hardwick; seven sisters, Cecile Chapdelaine, Rachael Sorel, Yvonne Vadnais, and Madeline Cebula, all of Ware, Lorraine Forget of Spencer, Claire Charbonneau of Ludlow, and Sylvia DeMao of Springfield; and five grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at Charbonneau Funeral Home and in the church with burial in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to the Mary Lane Memorial Fund.

Ware - Alberic P. Sorel, 83, of 40 Park St., a retired custodian for the Ware school system, died Sunday in Holyoke Soldiers Home. Born in Canada, he lived in Ware 76 years and was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a member of the Ware American Legion, the League of Sacred Heart, and the Ware Golden Age Club. He leaves two daughters, Pauline Opata and Jeannette Lachut; a brother, Romuald, all of Ware; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday morning at Charbonneau Funeral Home and in the church with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

My great grandmother was Charlotta Justina Sorel b. 1892 d. 1964, who married Magnus Valfrid Bjork. I believe that they were both born in Farila, Gavleborg, Sweden, immigrated in 1919 to Poplar, Wisconsin and died in Superior, Wisconsin. If anyone has any info on them, I would be interested!

I am interested in your information concerning the Joseph Sorel/Theotiste Bisson/Flavie Lemieux line. Do you have any documentation or information on Moyse Sorel who lived in Redford NY? He is my gggrandfather. I have been unable to find any info on him prior to his life in Redford.

Antoine & Mary Sorrell NY 1870 Census

In the 1870 West Plattsburg, NY Census I found Antoine Sorrell 46 and wife Mary 34 with children Mary 15, Frank 13, Myron 11, Nelson 8, Louisa (or Lonesa) 6, Carrie 4, and Hattie 1. I also know they also had children Charlotte (Lottie or Lotta) in 1872 and William born in 1877. I have a photo of the couple's headstone. It reads: Antwine Sorrell 1824-1905 and his wife Mary Stevens 183?-188?. Some of the numbers are hard to read. I've seen Antoine's last name is also spelled Sorel on some records. Nelson is my great grandfather. Any help with this family would be appreciated.

Denise, I just read your message on regarding family of Joseph and Dorothy Sorel. Son Paul E., born in 1915, was my uncle. Paul died in 1975. Paul never spoke of his family. From what I understand, he had a falling out that he never reconciled. I would welcome a chance to learn more about his family, and to tell you of him. He was quite a presence in my life. My gggrandfather was Lot Sorels Mead born in Westchester, NY. His father was Luke Mead who was born in Connecticut and died in Parke County, Indiana abt 1836. Please contact me as I have been looking for additional information on Lot Sorels mother as Luke had a second wife when he was murdered in Indiana.

Cheryl, I just found out my g. grandmother was Adelaide Sorel dit Laporte. I would love to see what info you have on the family from Redford, N.Y. where my ancestor was from! I have no info on her family. I know she married and was widowed early, then married my g. grandfather Louis Varin and had children, then died at age 38 in 1885. Our family has been in the dark about her until I found info two days ago. I solved one puzzle now I'm onto the next.

I am trying to find the parents or family of Adelaide Sorel, sometimes showing as Addie or Addea Laporte, who m. 1st Julien Bourdon, then to Louis Varin in Lyon Mountain N.Y. Her 2nd marriage is registered at St. Mary of the Assumption in Redford. She died in 1886 at the age of 38 in Chazy Lake or Lyon Mountain, N.Y. I haven't been able to connect her to any family.. She was my dad's grandmother. I've found several Adelaide Sorel's but the birth and death dates don't line up.

They had a son Joseph b. 1787 in St. Philippe, Laprairie, Quebec who married Marie Riel 23 Jan 1809 in St. Philippe, Laprairie, Quebec. I believe Joseph had a brother, Jean Baptiste, and a sister, Madeleine. Any information about any of these people would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I just found out two days ago my gg grandmother is a Sorrell dit Laporte. Her name was Adelaide and she married Louis Varin in Redford , N.Y. I had been looking for this info for several years. I just found this message board so I am excited to find out more about the family.

My grandfather, Henry (Andre) Varin changed the name to Vaughn around 1909. I have family all over the state of N. Y. I am researching. His mother died in 1885 when he was 6 or 7 so we know very little about the Sorrell Laporte family.

I am researching a Leon Letourneau, Born Mar. 2,1852 in Watertown or Fond Du Lac. I only have Pierre Letourneau as his father and Lucil as his mother. He died in Marinette, WI on Mar. 24, 1897, If we are looking at the same information, perhaps we can share. I have a lot of more recent information, but hit a block at that point. Thanks

Hi Just read your post re: Sorel. According to my mothers research Joseph Sorel and MArie Riel had a son Marcel. Joseph and MArie would be my GGGGG Grandparents. We descended through Marcel.
