Nels, Neils or Niles Sorensen - Dakota Territory

We are still looking for our relative, Nels, Neils or Niles Sorensen. (Not sure of spelling on given name.) He immigrated from Denmark to the US with his brother Hans Sorensen in 1871 or with Han's wife Birthe Marie in 1873.

They either came in to the Port of New Orleans or a Texas port, possibly Galveston.

Hans Sorensen first settled in Caldwell County, Texas near Lockhart. Birthe Marie came two years later with their 2-yr old son Sam. The family lived in Caldwell County until 1876 or 1877 after which they moved to Lee County, Texas. The Hans Sorensens eventually changed the spelling or their name to Sorenson.

We have always heard that this brother came over with Hans or Birthe Marie and went to the Dakota Territory. If anyone can provide information on our relative Nels, Neils or Niles Sorensen, we would appreciate it.

Norma Sorenson

Sorensen, Peder & Kristine

I am looking for family or friends of my great grandfather
Peder Sorensen. I think they immigrated in 1884 from Denmark and I think they went to Minnisota. Kristine's last name was Neilson. My grandfather Soren Peder was born
in Nibe, Denmark in 1879 and I think there was a sister
Margaret. Soren married Grace Tucker from New York in 1919 and they then came to Alberta, Canada where my dad William
was born in 1921.
Thanks
Marlayne

I'm trying to find any starting point for my great grand-father, Neils Christian Sorensen. Born in Denmark 15th Dec 1859 and emigrated to America in 1885/86. Possible became a farmer.

My cousins in Denmark have done the whole family tree from him over there. But we wonder what happened to him in America. Presumably there is more family there.

Can anyone help track him down? Any starting point would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Our Grandmother, Katherine Serena Sorensen (sometimes spelled Sorenson) was born to Nels and Annie Sorensen in Omaha, NE, Sept. 23, 1890. She had an older brother Axel. She was baptised in Omaha at a Methodist Church Dec. 30, 1890. When she was 1 the family moved to SD, her mother died in childbirth when she was 2 and a neighbor friend raised her. Her father later remarried and raised a family. We do not know her mother's maiden name, or any other family members. Any help would surely be appreciated. Thank-you.

Golden Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Soren P. SORENSEN Nebraska 1925

OMAHA COUPLE WILL CELEBRATE THEIR GOLDEN WEDDING AT HOME SATURDAY
Mr. and Mrs. Soren P. Sorensen will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, which falls on Sunday at their home, 6702 Spencer street, Saturday evening.
More than a hundred guests, many of them from Council Bluffs, Blair, Dodge, Fremont and other adjacent towns, will attend the affair.
The Sorensens were married in Fremont in 1875. Both were born and spent their early years in Copenhagen. When Mrs. Sorensen was 9 years old, her parents migrated to America, coming directly from New York to Fremont. The last part of the journey overland to Fremont was made in a covered wagon drawn by oxen. Mr. Sorensen came to America shortly after the civil war. He clearly recalls the days when he met roving bands of Indians. The Sorensens lived in Fremont and vicinity for nine years before they became acquainted. Their marriage followed a year later.
Forty years ago they came to Omaha. For many years they lived on the South Side, but for the past several years they have lived at their present address. At 75, Sorensen operates a cobbler shop on west Leavenworth.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sorensen of Centralia, Wash., who fifty years ago, as children, witnessed the marriage ceremony, will be in Omaha to attend the celebration.
Mr. and Mrs. Sorensen have three children and five grandchildren, all living in Omaha.

The World-Herald: Omaha, Saturday March 7, 1925

NO Relation!
Hi, I am looking for information regarding Soren Sorensen or Sorenson. He was born in Denmark. He came to the U.S. with a wife. His wife died, and then he went back to Denmark, and married her sister Sine, and brought her to the U.S.. I was told that our last name used to be spelled Sorensen. But it was changed to Sorenson by Soren because of something his brother had done. I would like to know where in Denmark they came from, if there are anymore relatives still living in there, siblings, other relatives, Soren's first wife's name, and any other information that could help me would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to e-mail me at CFROG3566@aol.com

Sorensen family in Seattle

I'm looking for info on a Soren Sorensen who immigrated to USA between 1880-1885 with his brothers, Gustav and Albert. Soren's birthday is July 13, 1864. His older sister, Elene, was born in 1862 in Viborg, Denmark so I'm assuming he was born in that area as well. Soren apparently had a farm in Seattle, and had 3 daughters and 1 son. I only know 2 of the daughters' names - Hertha and Anna - and apparently Anna was manager of Bell Telephone.

If you have any info on this line of the Sorensen family, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Neils or Nels Sorenson, Denmark to Dakotas

Still searching for the above Neils or Nels. He and his brother Hans Sorenson (my husband's GGrandfather) came from Denmark in Nov 1871. Probably from Lovel, Viborg, DEN. Their port of entry was New Orleans, LA. Hans settled in south Texas and the story handed down from family members states that Neils (or Nels) went to South Dakota or the Dakota Territory. I don't think Dakota was a state at that time and the Territory took in several other states.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Norma

Sorensen or Sorenson, Marie

I am searching - and so far to no avail - for Marie or maybe Mary Sorenson, my grandmother. she is allegedly born in North Dakota (according to the 1910 census) but we thought that she had been born in Denmark (from her death certificate). She most likely was born between May 3 - 10, 1887. She married my grandfather, Peter Kjarsgaard in North Dakota. He homesteaded close to Heaton so I'm guessing she was in that area as well when they married. Their first two children were born in Sykeston in 1908 and 1910.
I am really looking for any information on my grandmother. I can't even get a birth certificate as I don't know her parents names. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Hans Arnold Sorensen m Ellen (Madsen) Winkler

I am looking for my great grandfather who was Hans Arnold Sorensen, born approximately 1895. He was married to my great grandmother, Ellen Wilhelmina Winkler (or Madsen). I don't know for sure when they were married, but probably 1914 or 1915. They were married and lived in Denmark. They had their first daughter, Elinore Rita Sorensen, 23 March 1915. They separated while Ellen was pregnant with their second daughter, and Ellen returned to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, arriving in September 1916. Their second daughter, Erna Caroline Sorensen, was born 23 November 1916. The ships manifest lists their address in Denmark as Priorensgade 41, Faaborg, Svendborg, Denmark.

A family friend visited Denmark in 1940 and ran into Hans, who was then a conductor of a streetcar in Middlefart. He told the friend that he had remarried and had two more daughters. My grandmother, Erna Caroline, is now 89, living in California, and would love to know of her half sisters or their families. I would also be interested in tracing this side of our family tree.

Information needed to connect this person to Christian F. Sorensen and Christiana Sorensen (husband & wife) Hans was born in 1886 do not know where, but probably Denmark, buried in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson, MN in the family plot of Christian (Christ) Sorensen along with Art Sorensen.
Was Hans a brother to Christ? Certainly not a brother to Art Sorensen who died in 1926. Christian and Christiana came to America about 1896 along with her children from a first marriage, and a couple of children from another family. They settled in Iowa before coming to Minnesota. Most of their children were born in Iowa beteen 1901 and 1911, so when did they move to Minnesota? I can't seem to find them in any of the census's in either state.

I am interested in finding relatives of Mads and LaRue Sorensen. Mads was my grandmother Inger Sorensen's brother. He was born in Denmark October 10, l865 and died in Nebraska about l914. He immigrated to the U.S. in l884 and went to Nebraska where he married Larue Canady. They had 6 children: Robert Sorensen, John B. Sorensen, Julia Grace Sorensen who married Howard Tarkington--their children were Dorothy and Eugene Tarkington; Earl Sorensen, Clifton L. (Mike) Sorensen and S. Kenneth Sorensen. I would like to find any relatives of their children. Our side of the family has lost contact with them and would appreciate any help in finding them that we can get.

Hoping someone can make a connection to this family. Grandfather was Soren A. Sorensen, also went by the name of Samuel A. Sorensen, born in Chicago, IL 1888. Soren's father was Jes, or Jesse, born in Denmark abt. 1855-1865??. Jes married Caroline Catherine Peterson in Chicago, IL in 1887. I can only find Jes on the 1930 census in MN, and Soren on the 1920 census with his wife Bernice Lathrup. Known children of Jes and Caroline are Mary, Amil, Anna, Andrew and Fred. I believe they had more children. I don't know were they were on other census. I would like to hear from anyone that might have some information on this family. Thanks Chris

I am trying to locate my grandmother's family...possibly in North Dakota. She was born in North Dakota of Danish descent (according to the 1910 US census). She married my grandfather Peter Kjarsgaard most likely in the spring or summer of 1908. they had a homestead in Kidder County - very close to Heaton ND. Their first two children were born in Sykeston.
I received information that the family surname possibly was changed at some point to Johnson. I have nothing to verify this though. To the best of myknowledge she only used the surname Sorensen or Sorenson.
Anyone who has a possible connection to this lady...please email!
Thanks!

Father and Son Naming

My gg-grandfathers name as we know/knew it was Sophus Sorensen, however; his fathers name according to family was Hans Christian Soren. If the son is named with the last name of the father with 'sen' added at the end do you think this name sounds right? I have found no records in Denmark of him with many post on many boards. Can anybody aim me in the right direction or track on this name not being his full name? I'm thinking his name should of been different as I notice the way the males are named. I have been looking for four years and no records so far. Sophus was born 19 May 1862. Came to US in 1888 per US census. He settled in Spirit Lake Iowa and farmed all his life. He died in 1933. I am desperetly seeking his parents. Thank you.

Looking for birth date of Andrew C. Sorensen who died on May 6, 1943.@ Murdo, S.D. and is buried there.
We were told that his father was Anders Christen Sorensen and Anna M. Jorgenson. (We know nothing about them)
Andrew C. (he could have been called Carl) marred Louisa (looking for her birth and death dates and places, along with her maiden name)
Andrew had a sister, Anna Mae who married our great grandfather, William Henry Vaughan. I have that whole family tree.
Now, I am looking for Andrew and Louisa's children's family trees: Children's names are Harold Arthur , Earl D. , and Etta. We have no info except for these names, don't know who they married. We have a little story told to us by grandma Georgia King, Anna Mae and William Vaughan's daughter, that Earl married a lady by the nickname of Elvis. Wished we could find more. We have a picture of Earl and Elvis.
Grandma Georgia Mae (Vaughan) King will be 100 years old on Aug 20, 2004. Wished we could find some of her families genealogy dates before then. Yes, she is still alive!
Thanks, Sincerely, Duane and Joan Bessette.Hope someone will get back to me.
