Hello! Well Sophus was my gg grampa too. Harry Sorensen Jr. (We called him Swede) was my grampa.
I talked to Betty on the phone a couple times and she did send me some copies of information she had in her mothers autograph book.
Do you happen to know your gramma Petrinas fathers name? I am excited to talk to you.
I have wrote to Avis Hoffman before, we are confused on who Sophus's father was. I have a copy of his death cert and it says Paul Sorensen, but the census says Hans Christian. Any pics? please email me at privately if you want.
Nancy Sorenen Webb

Re: Raymond Richard Sorensen

Hello Andrea I was just led to your inquiry on Ancestry.com and having only recently joined I am a little illiterate in all that I can pull up. I believe I am your other half-aunt as you referred to Carol. Your information is not absolutely correct and these are the facts. Raymond Richard Sorensen as I know him was born Jan. 4, 1903 in New York City. However, I have recently tried to obtain a birth certificate but was told there was none. Part of the problem was that on the 1910 and 1920 censuses the name given was Risager (his father's middle name I believe.) He had an older sister Ethel that I've found mention of who was born in Copenhagan and both his parents Soren R. and Augusta were born in Copenhagan.
Raymond Richard was my father and died on my sister Carol's 4th birthday - May 10, 1946. He is buried in Riverhurst Cemetery in Endicott, New York. He was indeed a chef. He married my mother on Jan. 22, 1940 and together they have two daughters, me - Patricia Katherine and my sister Carol Jeanne who lives in Hawaii.
Mom and Dad met at the diner where she worked in Endicott, NY and he had come from NYC to work as the chef. After they married they bought the diner after my younger sister was born. Dad became ill shortly thereafter and suffered a long illness before his death. Was your mother's name Elizabeth? I know that he was previously married and indeed had a daughter Beverley and a son Raymond, Jr. I have searched for Beverley on line as well as Ray, Jr. but I believe that they are both deceased now. I understand that Beverley was adopted by someone in Canada in her teens, or at least that is the info I was told. She, in fact, has visited my sister Carol in Hawaii but that was many years ago and I believe her married name was Garrett.
As for the siblings of Raymond Richard, my father they are:
Ethel, William, Augusta, Christian, Gertrude (aka Rite)and Daisy.

Please feel free to contact me at pluckel@bellsouth.net rather than through this message board. I haven't figured out how to extract messages yet. Look forward to hearing from you soon. I am very excited. Pat Sorensen Luckel

Christeana Margarete Sorensen MN/SD/Portland, OR

I have run into a total dead-end in my search for information about Christeana Margarete Sorensen, my great grandmother. I would be very grateful for any help/leads people might have for her.

Some background:

Born Sept. 1869 in Denmark.

Immigrated to US in 1880-3 from Denmark

Married Edgar Stafford (b. 1862 in Houston, MN and shown in 1880 census in same town)in 1886

First child Clyde R Stafford b. 1888 in Aberdeen, SD.
Grace Stafford b. 1889 in SD.
Subsequent children b. in WI, KS and MO.

Moved to Portland, OR between 1910 and 1920.

Father shown on death cert. as Genius (maybe Jens or Julius?) Sorensen.

Mother shown on death certificate as Karen Marie Christensen.

I'm not sure I trust the spelling of her name. Could be Christine, Christina, Christiana, etc... and Margarethe, Margret, etc...

I am most interested n tracing her back to Denmark, and learning of siblings in US.

Many thanks,

Jerry Marshall
Canberra, Australia

Perhaps you should look for a marriage certificate in North Dakota Marriage database?

You could also contact the library in the town where she died and ask someone there to lookup the obituary from the local newspaper for you (sometimes on microfilm).

Also at that library there should be a section of books called Birth Marriage Death Indexed, for a certain range of years. Should you actually beable to visit that library, those books are sometimes extremely helpful - even for information you didn't know you were even looking for.

Also, I don't think that my Sorensens (and we have a Marie) are the same as your Sorensens since we have no North Dakota residents.

Hope this helps. :-)

I am looking for my great grandfather and his family in the US.

Emil Sorensen was born 1906 in Minnesota. Died 1972 in Alaska.

Lived some periods in Norway, where my grandfather, Per Tufthaug (born: Sorensen) was born outside of marriage.

He married back in the US two times, I think, and lived most of his life in Dillingham or Anchourage, Alaska.

Our family is from Hadsel, Norway. My grandfather passed away far too early and it would mean a lot for my father if I was able to find something about his fathers family.

Any help is deeply appreciated!

Thank you for the reply. Yes that is the Rasmus Peter Sorensen that I am looking for and it is in Australia that I am trying to find him. His father died under the name Charles Sanderson at Rockhampton Qld when he was only 7yrs then his mum remarried an Olsen and then a Burgess so he may go under Sorensen, Olsen,Burgess or Saunderson. This is my problem in finding him. He was supposed to of lived near Bundaberg. Once again I thank you for your info regards Annette

Hi,
I am not sure if you are looking for info in Australia or Denmark, so maybe you know this already, but I think I have found their danish emigration records where they are registered as:

Rasmus Sørensen, age 34, living near Middelfart in Denmark, emigrating 30 may 1873 to Queensland, Australia.

His wife was named Ane, age 36.

Their children were emigrating together with them as:
Carl Christian Sørensen, age 11 months,
Charlotte Kirstine Sørensen, age 8,
Rasmus Peter Sørensen, age 5 (might be "your Rasmus"),
Karen Dorthea Sørensen, age 11,

The emigration date match that you say they boarded the ship Eugenie, becuase the ship Eugenie departed from Hamburg in Germany on 16 June 1873 arrived in Rockhampton on 30 October 1873.

It was very normal to go to Hamburg in those days, since there were a lot of emigration ships.

I think the journey on the ship is described on this website I found, it is written by another emigrant family onboard the same ship.

http://www.mickey-cookie.whsites.com/shipeugenie/hambaus1873...

I hope this can be of some use to you.

Best Regards,

P Brun,
Denmark

This is what I have on Hans, from a gal in Sweden who did the research for me.
Hans Sorensen was born 5 Oct 1886 in Denmark, he died 23 Sep 1931 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota and is buried in Hutchinson, Minnesota along side of his half brother, Christ Sorensen.
Hans' parents were: Jens Kristjan Sorensen and Jensine Kristine Hansen. His siblings were, Frederik Kristjan Sornesn, born 1875 in Denmark and Karl Kristjan Sorensen born 1889 in Denmark.
Hans' half brother was the son of Jens Kristjan Sorensen and his first wife Ane Marie Thomsdotter. He too was born in Denmark.
I can only guess that we are not talking about the same Hans Sorensen.
