Kenneth,

I have done extensive research on this family recently. Christen Sorensen b. 1821, and family are from Bamble, Telemark, Norway. I think they immigrated in 1862 according to Soren's 1900 census. Norwegian name: Soren Christian Christensen; American name Soren Sorenson, born Dec. 29, 1855 on the Asdal farm in Bamble. Thanks for his death information. I would never have looked for him in CA. If you have any questions let me know how to contact you.

Thanks,
Mary Hunter

My name is Robert R. Sorenson. I think you are talking about my family. My father was Robert S. Sorenson. My Grandfather, the son of Hans Peter was Harry. However, I was told there were 8 sons. I have a cousin in San Diego who is also researching the family history. Maybe I can help you. Maybe I can refer you to my cousin. Tell me a bit of what you know. BTW: According to my dad the name was changed when they went through Ellis. The clerk misspelled it, and Hans was afraid to say anything. Later, the 8 sons had a feud and split 4/4. Some changing back to sen, some not.

SORENSON, RICHARD KEITH; Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient KOREAN WAR

SORENSON, RICHARD KEITH

Rank and organization: Private, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, 4th Marine Division. Place and date: Namur Island, Kwajalein Atoll Marshall Islands, 1 -2 February 1944. Entered service at: Minnesota. Born: 28 August 1924, Anoka, Minn. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving with an assault battalion attached to the 4th Marine Division during the battle of Namur Island, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, on 1-2 February 1944. Putting up a brave defense against a particularly violent counterattack by the enemy during invasion operations, Pvt. Sorenson and 5 other marines occupying a shellhole were endangered by a Japanese grenade thrown into their midst. Unhesitatingly, and with complete disregard for his own safety, Pvt. Sorenson hurled himself upon the deadly weapon, heroically taking the full impact of the explosion. As a result of his gallant action, he was severely wounded, but the lives of his comrades were saved. His great personal valor and exceptional spirit of self-sacrifice in the face of almost certain death were in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota

Cemetery: Fort Snelling National Cemetery

Born: 1924 Anoka, MN

Died: 2004

Additional Information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_pz/soren...

Bio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Keith_Sorenson

Note: This is not my ancestry.
Gary, I am doing some family research on a Harry J. Sorenson, he had a brother named Soren, Ralph and Jimmy. Harry immigrated to US in 1883 (he was 3) Sorens wife's name was Mattie and had 2 son Charles Sorenson from Algona, IA andLeslie (mel) Soreson from Gruver, IA he died in 1971 and according to his obit, Sorens wife was still alive then. I do not know when Soren died. I am trying to find any family history of this family..Harry J married Rissie Lavina Siverts in S.D. and eventually moved to Estherville, Ia where he had Sorenson Harness & Upholstery shop...if this is any relations to you please contact me. Thanks

Caren
Since our last contact, I have found out alittle more information about our family..Harry J.Sorenson changed his name, on the 1900 census I found he is listed as Hans, his older brother was Soren (mattie), brothers Charles (Edna), Ralph, and James, perhaps a sister named Paulina (?) Mothers name was Annie, maiden name Dahl?, father Paul?
In the 1900 census all lived in Spencer, Iowa..Do know that Soren worked for the Railroad and that Soren & Mattie are buried in Eastlake Cementary in Estherville, Iowa along with one of their sons named Leslie another son was named Harry A Sorenson and he has living Sorenson children and from there on out I am out of info....Some of the towns the Sorensons lived in are Estherville, Gruver, Spencer, Fort Dodge, Grettenger Iowa
Perhaps you can check your book again to see if any of these names appear in it...one can only hope

Thanks Rosie

I am looking for any information (or possilbe leads) on my grandmother, Mary Sorenson (or possibly Marie or Maria). As close as we can "figure" she was born between May 2 and 4, 1887. The 1910 census of North Dakota says she was born in North Dakota but other documents say Wisconsin and still others say Denmark or Norway.
She married my grandfather, Peter Kjarsgaard and they homesteaded near Heaton, ND. My aunt and uncle were both born in Sykeston, ND. They owned a small hardware store in Heaton in 1909 but sold it in 1910 and moved to Canada.
She died in 1918 and all information on her family died with her.
I'd really appreciate anything that could help!

Sorensen ~Sorenson Denmark to Wisc. to South Dakota VIA Ellis Island

OK... somewhere down the line the Sorensen was changed to Sorenson... Danes usually used the "EN" that is on thing that set them apart from the Noregian "on" this happened ALOT ... I'd like to blame it on census takers but ...Who Knows???
Any way... I'm looking for the Hans Peter Sorensen(on) family that settled in the Pierre, South Dakota area from about 1900 to .... Now... I have already spoken to some family members... what I'm actually looking for is anything on JENESEVE ANTONIA RASMUSSEN(from Lollands ,Denmark) that married Hans Peter Sorensen (from Lollands, Denmark)in 1891....I know they had 3 sons and a daughter, all born in Ruttland, Wisconsin... Then sometime around the 1900's moved to South Dakota (Hughes Co. )
NEED INFO.

My Dad told me his grandfather was from Copenhagen and I confirmed he sailed from Copenhagen in 1868-69. That is as far back as I know. I sent out several letters today hoping someone will connect with the names I have. Ellen
