I am looking for family related to Chester Sorg he was my grandfather. I know he had a daughter who died at birth. Her name was Ruby. She would have been a few years older than my mother. My mother's name was Opal Rita. I hope this helps you. I have been searching for information off and on for quite a while. The family is almost gone and no one kept track of who was who.
opalstar@hotmail.com

I think you replied to a posting of mine about David Wyrick. Since we both descend from John Edward Goss and Louisa Magdalene Wyrick we are working on the same lines. I would be happy to correspond with you. I have some limited information on Emma Goss. I can put you in touch with a couple of cousins, also. And I would love to get more info on descendants of John Edwin Goss. My grandmother, his sister, died in 2002. I never was able to get a lot of information from her about her family. I look forward to hearing from you. You can email me at tmcrowley@peoplepc.com.

My Father is John Edwin Goss, his father is John Edward Goss, his father is John Jacob Goss/Gass. One of his wives was Emma Sorg, your ggrandmother. Do you have any other info about Emma? I know that John Jacob had two wives and a total of 14 children. John Edward's wife was Lousia Madelena Wyrick, daughter of Clarence Wyrick, grandaughter of David Wyrick.

I have John Edwards decendants through John Edwin if you'd like them.

No there wasn't any mention of an Otto Sorg. Just a Peter Sorg & Mary (Mesmer) Sorg married in 1853. Mary (Mesmer) Sorg was born in Alsace, France on March 25, 1827 and came to America in 1853. They were married the same year. One of their children married into the Zemptler / Zempfler family.

To Barbara from Ludington Mich.
I read your message and had to chuckle, I was a server at your parents wedding at Hessen Cassel Catholic Church. It was more years ago than I care to remember. Their wedding stands out in my mind because I remember the priest (Fr. Gollner)advised us that your dad was sensative to the smell of incense and to keep it out of his face. Being the onrey little turds that we were, we accepted that as a challenge and had his knees weak and shaking in no time. I do not remember the exact date of your parents weddind, but its scary to think that I can remember serving at a wedding that took place nearly 50 years ago.
Paul

Sorgs in Fort Wayne, In and Chicago, IL

I do know that my g grandfather Joseph Sorg was born in Hessen (that's what he entered on the 1880 US Census page for Chicago, IL. He was 32 at the time, so he had to have come to the US before 1869 because all six of his children were born in Chicago. The oldest of his six children was John, 11. That would put him in Chicago in 1869. I assume he came with his parents which would make it at least in the last half of the 1800s. His wife, Louise Tapper (Von Tapper) was born in Hanover, so they must have met here in the US. My grandmother, his fourth child, used to tell me about having a lot of relatives in Fort Wayne, IN. However, I don't know who my g grandfather's parents were and I can't seem to line them up with anyof the Sorgs in Fort Wayne. His six children were John, Anna, Karalign, Josephine, Delphine and Elizabeth. Any help is appreciated.

Mother's name was Louise Von Tapper. As I wrote, their two oldest sons were John and Joseph.

I'll be anxious to hear from you.
Sorg Family in Fort Wayne and Chicago

Dear Patty:

I now know that my great grandfather's name was Joseph Sorg. My grandmother, Josephine, was one of his four daughters; Delphine (Dellie), Annie and Elizabeth, and one son John (the oldest, I think). Joseph married Louise Von Tapper. I don't know where. In Your message to me on 1/19/00, You said your great grandfather was Henry Sort, the youngest of 13 kids, and their father was John Melchoir Sorg, who had sons named John and Joseph, and that you have the listed names of their children. I sure hope you can make a match for me with those names. Another coincidence, my grandmother had six sons: John, Joseph(the two oldest, Earl (my father) Edward and Frank. Grandparents were married in Chicago on September 12, 1892, so I would believe my great grandfather and grandmother were living in Chicago at that time. However, I'll repeat; my grandmother used to tell me, when I was a very young girl, that "we have lots of relatives in Fort Wayne,Indiana" I wish, like so many others, I would have asked questions in those years. I'm stuck right now. I guess I have to go to census records to try to find my great grandparents' parents.
Please email me at IHAMM29@AOL.COM

Thank you,

Irene Hammond
Sterling Heights, MI
To Joseph Sorg:

My great grandfather's name was Joseph Sorg. I know from my grandmother that we "have lots of relatives in Fort Wayne, Indiana." That's what she used to tell me. I don't know where my great grandfather was born (wish I did). However, my grandmother, Josephine Sorg Spengler and her brother John and sisters Delphine, Annie and Elizabeth, I believe, were born in Chicago, as were my father and his brothers. What do you know about any Joseph Sorgs in Indiana? My great grandfather was born around 1835-50.

Thank you,

Irene Hammond

Hi, Patty Strunk:

I finally found my great grandparents' names - Joseph Sorg and Louise Von Tapper. I found their names on a grand aunt's social security application from 1940. They had one son, John, and they had three daughters, Delli, Josephine (my grandma) and Elizabeth.
Could there be a tie-in with your great grandfather John Melchoir Sorg who had sons named John and Joseph? Please advise. Thank you
Irene Hammond

It seems like 1866 would be a bit old for a brother of my grandfather. The reason I say this is because my dad was born in 1942 and my grandfather lived approximately forty more years following that. But its possible there may have been a namesake or something of that nature, a great uncle perhaps. Thanks for the info, I'll be looking into it.
