i am researching jacques joseph sorell de contamine, whom i recently found a doucment saying his original name was jacques joseph sorell, marquis de contamine. I know that he came to the Province of Louisiana from the Grenbole area of France as a French solider during the 1740's to 1760's, and that he owned a plantation in St. Mary Parish, La. and served as interm commandment of the Poste de Attakapas at St. Martinville, La. and also owned a home in the village of St. Martinville, La. He died in 1824 at 76 years old at his plantation along the banks of Bayou Teche in St. Mary Parish and FRederquic pellerin, who was a neighbor of sorell's inherited the home of Jacques joseph sorrel de contamine, also I have heard that Jacques Jospeh Sorrel de contamine was married briefly to a Mademoiselle Grevemberg, who left him shortly after marriage and returned to France, in his last testament Jacques Sorrel leaves land, money, cattle, and silver to a slave woman, Nanette, who had a daugther, Charlotte, and a son, Jacko, and Charlotte had a daughter, Adelaide, and they were all given their freedom from slavery after the death of Jacques Joseph Sorrel. Any information on Jacques Jospeh Sorrel de Contamine or Jacques Joseph Sorrel, Marquis de Contamine would be greatly appreciated, thank you
