Wayne, I found your family on the 1860 AL Federal census living in Covington county, AL and on the 1866 AL State census. This part of northern covington county later became Crenshaw county est. Nov. 1866. Father John Sorrels b. 1811 Georgia married to Mary Ann "Polly". Children's names are James M. (my ancestor), John S., Ezekiel, Margaret, Marion Marshall, McHenry and George W. I trying to trace them back to Georgia prior to 1860.
Mike Sorrells at msorrells23@gmail.com
Ft. Walton Bch, FL
DNA match to you and we've emailed already.

The link to George Sorrell of Oglethorpe/Greene counties, GA does not match based on the DNA test. The father of James M. Sorrells was John Sorrels, b. 1811 Georgia and married Mary Ann "Polly" (surname unknown). Children were James M, John S., Ezekiel, Margaret, Marion Marshall, McHenry and George W. They were living in Leon, Crenshaw County, AL based on the 1860 AL Federal and the 1866 Alabama State Census. John Sorrels was a Confederate War veteran and buried in the Confederate Cemetary, Chattanooga, TN.

Sorrells or any variant of the name DNA Project

Thelma Prince to all male Sorrell/Sorrells/Sorrels or any variant of the name

http://www.oursouthernancestors.com

I am trying to notify all male descendants of the name about the Sorrells DNA Project.
This test will help determine what Sorrells (or variant names) lines are related or not related, as all results are entered into a database for all of us to see if a release form is signed by the person taking the test. Please consider this new genealogy tool! Please notify every male descendant of the Sorrells name you know about this new way to prove lines.

http://www.sorrellsgenealogy.com/dna.html. Please go to this link if you would like to join the Sorrells DNA Project. Results of those taking the test already are displayed there. We are awaiting the results from 2 more people who took the Sorrells project test.

http://www.familytreedna.com to find out what the procedures are and how much it costs. It involves a swab on the mucous membrane inside your cheek, no blood is drawn and no needles! It is completely painless!

Male descendants whose Sorrells name(or variant) goes back through their paternal lines are eligible, because the DNA is passed from men to their sons through the Y chromosome which only men have.

There is a separate test for women to take for maternal lines only. for this you have to have the Sorrells name all the way back through each generation through only daughters, grandaughters, and on back. etc. Full explanations are given at the web sites mentioned.

Please let me know if you decide to take the test

Hi Chris... I don't have any info for you about your father but I recently took a DNA test and it revealed many relatives that I didn't know previously. In fact, I'm helping a guy who is adopted find out his true bloodline on the Sorrells side. My ancestors are from Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. I do know that there is an Edward Sorrell (b. 1790) in my bloodline from Virginia. I'm still tracing the family into NC and Georgia in the early 1800's.
You can take the DNA test at www.familytreedna.com
More info on www.sorrellsgeneology.com
Regards,
Mike Sorrells
msorrells23@gmail.com
Jenaundeck is my cousin and I'm helping her with this site.

The DNA test revealed that there is not a match of James M Sorrells, Alabama to the bloodline of George Sorrell, Georgia and James M Sorrell, b. 1834, Georgia. The father of James M. b. 1837 in AL was John Sorrell, b. 1811, Georgia and wife Mary Ann. 1860 Census Crenshaw Alabama shows John S. living next door to his son, James M. Sorrells and his son James Ervin Sorrells.
John Sorrell, Confederate G Company, 37th Infantry. Buried in Confederate Cemetary, Chattanooga, TN.

Fred Sorrells in Grady County Oklahoma in 1920

Fred Sorrells was married to Permelia Jane Mannan before 1880 probably in Indian Territory. In 1900 they are living in the Choctaw Nation with 4 children. In 1910 and 1920 the family is found in Grady County, Oklahoma in the Amber Township. In 1920 Fred is 71 years old and Jane is 61. Jane had a previous marriage to a Mr. Biddie and had one child from this marriage, Harmon Noel Biddie who was born in 1875 and died in 1962 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Sorrells children were Francisco, Viola, Fred Jr., and Eva who was married to William Arthur Scott. In 1930 Jane Sorrells is living in the William A. Scott household and she is 71 years old and a widow. Eva and William Scott lived in Grady County, Oklahoma where Eva died in 1969.
I am searching for death dates for Fred and Jane Sorrells and the burial location. I am also seeking descendants who might share information with me.

Thank you.
Hi!

I decend from Joshua Sorrells' (1843-1917) son Joseph Lafayette Sorrells (1862-1914). They are from Yancey County, North Carolina. Am looking for additional info on Joshua's father whom I believe was a Richard Sorrells (1814 - after 1900 before 1910). Richard was from Burke Co. NC. Any other Sorrell(s) researchers out there that have found any images of the above? Joseph Lafayette son James Gilmore Sorrells (1892-1967) was my great-grandfather. Any info would be appreciated! -- Andy Sorrell

William Redman Byers m Martha Matilda Sorrells, Cherokee Co, GA > OK bef 1900 > Nora, Lizzie & Thomas Griffin

I am looking for information on William Redman and Martha Matilda Sorrells Byers. They were married in Cherokee Co, GA and moved to OK by 1900. Their children were Nora, Lizzie and Thomas Griffin (thats all the ones I know of)

I believe that this William R Byers is the missing link I have been looking for, for quite awhile and would love to communicate with any from this line. I am trying to determine when William died (I have seen information that says Martha died in 1939). The will William I am searching for was born about 1862 in SC as were both his parents. All 6 of his siblings stayed in GA (in the Dawson, Forsyth, Milton, Bartow, Gordon and Clayton County areas)

I would like to be able to get the death cert for William and it would help if I knew when and where he died. I have a lot of information on the Byers line and I am quite willing to share with people in this line.

Hello, my name is also Chris Sorrells and I live in Augusta Georgia. However I don't know of any Mark Sorrells in my family history. The Sorrells on my side come from mostly around the Athens, Ga. area. Sorry I couldn't help, but good luck...

Chris
