DAVENPORT - Gwendolyn I. Sours, 77, of Davenport, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at Meadow Lawn Nursing Center in Davenport.

Services were today at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island. Mrs. Sours was born on March 29, 1922, in Brighton, the daughter of Benjamin and Bessie Feitz Schumacher. She married Harry V. Sours on June 17, 1976, in Rock Island, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1993. She was employed as a school custodian for Davenport Public School System, for many years retiring in 1982. Survivors include five daughters, Paulette Beeding of Muscatine, Sharon Cole of Montpelier, Betty Johnson of Davenport, Jackie Sindt of Montpelier, and Susan Sours of Muscatine; a son, Paul Sours of Blue Grass; her mother Bessie Schumacher of Davenport; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her father.

Hi Brooke,My great-grandmother was Essie Virginia Sours, married to Lewis Oscar Dennis,daughter of Benjamin Franklin Sours and Martha Bell Bradley.I am working on the Sours Family now. I have a book with a list of names,{book needs to be updated} and i don't have your grandparents names in that book,which there are several names I do not have in that book just by researching. I do have a long list of Sours in that book. I am also working on a Family Tree on Ancestry.com which I just started. I am looking for information on my Sours family who came from Germany to Canada (for several months near Montreal) and then to the United States in 1818. They first lived in Rush, New York and then moved to Rochester (Irondequoit), New York.

My Grandfather was Frank Manning Sours and I am also looking for some information on his mother. The only information that I can get from my Grandmother is that my Great Grand Mother's name was "anne lee". They definatley were from the Virginia/Maryland area and a few still reside there.Rumor has it that "Anne Lee" was Native American.......ANY information would be much appreciated

I have been researching Briggs in Columbia Co, NY & found Philip Sours listed as a grandchild of Elkanah Briggs (b. 1735, Taunton, MA, d. 1814) of Chatham. A Philip Sours was also one of the executors (perhaps not the same Philip?) of Elkanah`s will.

This implies Elkanah had a daughter (unknown to me) who married a (uknown) Sours.

Can anyone fill in this missing info?

My Great-Great Grandfather was Napoleon Sours, born in Martinsburg, Va. ca April 1836. Married a Susanna Thompson in 1854 of Gettysburg, Pa. Was a Union veteran and fought at Antietam where he was wounded. I have found nothing on his parents or beyound that point. You message could be a maybe? Please advise

My husbands grandfather was Virgil Sours b 5-22-1898 to William and Margaret (Doyle) Sours. Williams father was Riley b 12-28-1844 married to Sarah Londerry.

Rileys father was Araon b 5-12-1816 in VA he married Barbara Shearer in 1841 in IN.

Aarons father was Baltasar b 4-15-1790 in VA he married Anna Crigler in 1788.

Baltasars father was Frederick b 1760 in VA married Mary Ann Rudolph in 1762.

Freds father was Henry b 1730 in VA married (UNKNOWN)

Henrys father was Balzer b (unknown) married (unknown)

If you have anything any different please let me know. We are very interested in anything anyone has.

BALSER SOURS3 (?Balzer1, ?Henry2) first appears in the records of Virginia on 22 Jun 1773 when he purchased 90 acres of land in Dunmore County, VA, for "fifteen pounds Current money of Virginia". This is the first record of the Sours family in Virginia. For the next 48 years until his death Balser is found frequently in the deed records of Shenandoah County.
Balser married Barbara Wise. Balser was a member of the Hawksbill Church in what is now Page County. He was a Lutheran and represented the congregation at a Lutheran conference held in Woodstock in Oct 1805.
Balser died in Dec 1821 in Shenandoah County. His funeral was preached on New Year's Day 1822 by Pastor Paul Henkel. Balser left a will dated 11 Jul 1821, proved 7 Jan 1822. He mentions his wife Barbara, his children Isaac, Susanna Saur, and Barbara Summers, his brother Frederick Saur, and his brother-in-law Samuel Wise, son of Michael Wise. Witnesses were Wm R., Edwd, and Mann Almond. He bequeathed a life estate in all his property to his wife. At her death he left one slave to his daughter Susanna and the rest of them to his son Isaac. Idris's father would be my 3rd Greatgrandfather. I found out he lived with one of his 5 daughters, and that is where he died. When I find out where the daughters lived, maybe I can find out where his death is recorded.

One of my distant relatives was Joseph RUSKEY (b 28 Jul 1878 Custar, OH - d 26 Oct 1944 Bartlow Twp., Henry County, Ohio) - the imformant on Joseph's 1944 d/c was "Alfred Sours, Belmore, O.".

Joseph RUSKEY's wife was Emma (nee LEVECK) RUSKEY (b 19 Sep 1881 Middle Point, OH - d 1 Dec 1962 Napoleon, Henry Co., OH) - The informant on Emma's 1965 d/c was "Mrs. Lena Sours, Napoleon, Ohio".

Joseph RUSKLEY & family lived in Henry County, Ohio.

One of Joseph & Emma's children was a Lana?/Lanna?/Lena? RUSKEY b abt 1908 Ohio (age 2 in 1910 census & 22 in 1930 census).

PURE SPECULATION: Suspect that Lana?/Lanna?/Lena? RUSKEY (b abt 1908 OH) is Lena SOURS and that Alfred SOURS was her husband (m sometime after 1930). Seek any additional info re this Alfred and Lena SOURS of Napoleon, Ohio (1944) and Belmore, Ohio (in 1965).

My great Grandmother Dora Edith Wright daughter of George Wright and Julia Sours was born in Wolcott, New York. My cousin has a small autograph book with a Sours from Port Chester, New York. At the present time my cousin has my books to photo copy So I can't quote names. I will call her tonight.

The family started out in Columbia County, New York and Capt. Philip is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Wolcott, New York.

When Capt. Philip Sours died Ephriam Sours of Port Chester was one of the exectors as well as Philip's son Peter. In Philip's son Reuben's will probated 1897 granddaughters Jesse Sours, age 18, Minnie Sours age 16 and Florence Sours no age given all of Port Chester are all mentioned. The autograph book signed by Jesse M. Sours, Port Chester, New York.

I would like to correct: Evergreen Cemetery is in Huron, Wayne County, New York.

I have not looked at census for the Port Chester area. Have you?

My Grandfathers name was Franklin Manning Sours JR He was born in Evansville he had A brother and sister. His father was Franklin Manning. Married Emma Maud Oliphant. Franklin Sours SR married Mary Manning.Franklin Manning JR moved to ANO Kentucky and married Rinda Burdine. SR remarried and moved to Chicago I have no more information on him. John Sours was my great grandmothers Mary Turner
Landsaw, second husband. They married in 1886
in Buchanan County Mo.. They had three children
Alta Sours Cook Dunlap, Charles Sours and Otho
Sours. My great-grandmother had three sons by
her first marriage to my great grand father, William
Landsaw. My Grandfather(Mary and Williams youngest
never spoke of his stepfather and I have no information
about him. Mary Turner Landsaw Sours died in 1901.
Any information would be helpful, Alta died in the 60s or
70's, Otho died in 1963 and Charles ?. I would
