I am looking for some information on Antone Souza, born
1886 in the Azores, Portgual. In 1930 he was married in Watsonville, California. He was from Tulare in 1920 Census.
He might have gone by Antone M Souza. He had children of Manuel, Mable, Vivian, Rosie, and Eva. Later about 1934 or 1935, he would marry Frances Cabral, and would have two children----Anthony( b. 1936) and Rosemarie (b. 1938). I would like to know of the 1930 Census, and any more information.

JIm

  Hi Lapaz

Thanks for that information on Antone Souza. I am trying to find the 1900 and 1910 census without any luck. I used Antone this time, instead of Antonio and everything fits in , the children he had were right. Is there a census for those years(1900,1910) for Antone Souza in Tulare. His wife is not with him in the 1920 census, as they were divorced. Also I am trying to find the 1930 census in Watsonville, California for Antone Souza. Anymore information would be great.

Thanks Jim

I am looking for any information on Soza families in the Barnstable County, Massachusetts area. There was a family of siblings who immigrated about 1885 to 1905 from Fayal, Azores to Boston, then on to Fall River and eventually Falmouth. Names include: Manuel Soza, married Etta Fuller, Gertrude married William Costa, Marion [Mary] not married and an unknown brother who possibly married a Caroline before coming to America in 1901.

But Annie stated that she didn't emigrate until 1914, so does this mean that Morris went back to Portugal (he was born Mass.), married Annie, then they both came to the US at that time?

1930 census New Bedford, Bristol, MA

Morris Souza, age 34, born abt 1896 Massachusetts Head (Parents born Azores) (married age 23)

Annie Souza, age 29, born abt 1901 Azores Wife (Father born Azores, Mother born California) (Emigrated 1914) (married age 19)

Richard Souza, age 5, born abt 1925 Massachusetts Son

Manuel Sousa (Souza, DeSousa, DeSouza) b. abt. 1899 Boston, MA

Looking for possible descendants of the following family. Various spellings appear in U.S. Census, Boston City Directories, birth, marriage, and death certificates for each member of this family. These are:

Sousa
Souza
DeSousa
DeSouza

Manuel DeSouza was b. in Boston abt. Jan 11 1899 to his parents Antonio Caetano Sousa and Maria Elizabeth (nee DeSilva, Silvia, or possibly Felispee) likely from the Azores. There was a sibling named Joseph b. abt. Aug 7 1892, d. 1943. Both men died relatively young, and seem to have been employed as longshoreman.

Antonio was born in 1850, and Maria in 1873, yet it was the first marriage for both. They appear to have arrived in America at different times, later running a restaurant at 254 Commercial while raising their boys. The family lived in this same Boston area (e.g., Clark, Hanover, Commercial, etc.).

Manuel may have fathered children as it appears he had been married before his death in Jan. 1937. However, complicating this theory is the fact that he was already a widow when he died.

I would be interested in knowing who purchased a headstone at Mount Benedict Cemetery, Boston, MA for Manuel and his mother Maria in the 1960s. Strangely, father Antonio does not share this plot.

Did Manuel have a child that perhaps ended up in an orphanage, or Foster family?

I am trying to track this family back to the Azores, and I am also looking for any photos that may exist of this family.

Thanks for any assistance,

-=Michael

Re: Marion Sousa b. 1915 Rhode Island, mother to Lawrence WALLER b. 1930

Hello thank you so much. Lawrence Waller is my birthfather and the weird thing about this is it is as if his family just fanished. He was born in Pawtucket in 1930 his mother was Marion Sousa and they lived in Pawtucket with her mother she was only 15 years old and never had any other children or ever married. I am trying to find any relatives blood relatives to this family . My b/f died in 1989 nd he had no other children which also seems wierd I was told he was a ladies man. He did marry but she is also passed on and the children . A year after Lawrence's birth his grandmother changed his last name to Waller , but Marion never was married at all. It's strange I need to know who lived in that address Marion lived in at the time of Lawrence's birth. Maybe I can trace realtives that way. It just seems like there is no one left . I am not sure what lawrence's last name was before they changed it in 1931. Any help will do thank you so much.
susan

I've been told that John Philip Sousa was a drinking buddy of an Friedrich August Kummer (1827-1895). I question this because the dates don't quite fit. Would anyone know something about this possibility? August Kummer was an instrument maker who came from Saxony.

Appreciate any insight on this.
Vickie Ward
St Anthony, MN

What state did your Alfred live in? Please name the states or towns he lived in and his approximate birth date and death date. This would help narrow down the many Alfred J. SOUSA that pop up on the various databases.

Someone may see your response and know someone who might be related. Please respond. Good luck in your search.

Have you made contact with Phoebe Sousa? If not, I ran that name through a certain database and found someone with that name who lives or has lived in:

BALLWIN, MO
VALLEY PARK, MO
FOXWORTH, MS
MC HENRY, MD

The Mississippi address also shows a Charles P. Sousa.

It has been years since you first posted your query. I will not post address/phone data on a living person to this very public message board, but would send it to you via email, if you still need it.

Sandy
I have not idea if any of this information pertains to YOUR Marion, but am just offering it for you to sift through and perhaps give you good clues. You don't say whether Marion ever married or if she raised Lawrence. Perhaps a little more info would help. I realize you also want to be discreet, as this is a public board. I wish you well in your search.

Social Security Death Index Social Security Death Index
Name: Marion Sousa
SSN: 573-30-9770
Last Residence: 02919 Johnston, Providence, Rhode Island, United States of America
Born: 20 Dec 1915
Last Benefit: 02886 Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island, United States of America
Died: Jun 1979
State (Year) SSN issued: California (Before 1951 )

----------------------------------------

Rhode Island Deaths, 1630-1930 Rhode Island Deaths, 1630-1930
Name: Manuel Sousa
Kin 1: Manuel Sousa
Kin 2: Marion Sousa
Death Date: 22 Nov 1925
Age: 27 yrs

Source Information:
Ancestry.com.
hi again i am contacting city of new bedford. have questions about spelling of sousa/ souza. but have learned not to trust such as spelling was not so important to our ancestors, nor were they afraid to use an alias. a person could go crazy . my maternal great grandfather had 3 different names!

capecoddreamer
