Jake Sowder from Kentucky

I am looking for info on Jake Sowder (my gr-gr-grandfather), b. 10/24/1874 KY, d. 5/13/1958 OH, parents are Lafayette Sowder & Polly Mary Davis, spouse was Adaline Rose. I was told by my grandmother (whose father, General Grant Sowder is Jake's son) that there is Cherokee Indian in the family..Any pictures of him or his immediate relatives would be greatly appreciated! Hello I am Rick Sowders grand son of Floyd R. Sowders. The Sowders came from New Jersey where my gr gr gr grandfather was inlisted in the military in Bangor MI. My side of the family came from Bay City MI. I have an aunt Ida May Sowders in my family I will check my records and see what I can find for u.I have traced the family back to the Civil War and I am researching it. R L Sowders

Died 2-14-1955. Buried in George Partin Cemetery, Frakes Ky.
Married Rebecca ? Sowder and they had at least Three (3) Daughters
Ida Sowder who married General Rose, Ethyl Sowder who married Philip (Bud) Rose and John Jefferies,& Georgia Sowder-Teague.
He Married Osie (or Asie )Mae .Teague. They had several Children Most livng in Frakes,Ky. , Lupton,Michigan & Lafollette,Tennessee. Any and all information greatly appreciated .

I can help with Emmanuel Sowder and Milly Ferrell. Milly's niece Debby Ferrell married Hackley Sowder in Rockcastle Co. and were my ancestors. Not sure if Emmanuel and Hackley were related, in fact that is one of the questions I'd like to see answered by Sowder DNA testing.

My Ferrell line was in Pulaski around 1800 but went to Claiborne Co., TN which is where Emmanuel Sowder originated.

Dave...your message of Feb., 2000, asks about Jane Ann who married Joseph Ferrell. Names and dates seem to fit Joseph and Jane in my tree. Possible that Joseph and Jane are my gr gr grandparents. My info on both are extremely limited. Do you have info that you could share? I also have an Emmanuel Sowder that m Milly Ferrell abt 1829.

I am looking for info on Peter Sowders who was born in New Jersey and then served in the civil war and after his military tour moved to Bay City Michigan where he married and had 3 son two of his sons where George Washington Sowders bornabt 1850 and his other son my great grand fther was Samual Sowders born 1858 in Bay City Michigan. Samual married Sarah McCauley and had 8 Children. I will help any one that I can and if u can help me let me know at poochy1955@yahoo.com

Hello I am Ricky Sowders grandson of Flod Raymond Sowders and Great granson of Samual Sowders and great great grandson of Peter Sowders and have info going back to the civil war and still working on history covering 4 generations so far if I can be of help let me know. Tennessee/Kentucky Sowders trace back to Montgomery (now Floyd) County, Va. at what is now Copper Hill. Anthony Sowder married Catherine Snuffer, my great-great grandfather John Snuffer's older sister. I have some more information on Virginia Sowders, if interested.

DNA Studies?

Are any of you aware of any DNA studies being done on SOWDER(S)/SOUDER(S)? My main interest is in finding out if the Claiborne Co., TN line is related to the Rockcastle Co., KY line. But any help in figuring out how the early SOWDER lines may or may NOT be related would be helpful in sorting things out.

Sowder, Vanderpool - maybe Bradley
