I am sorry to say that my files are in even more
disarray than usual, and I am not able to add much
without a bit of searching.

The obvious guess would be that the intestate William
would have been Moore's son, William.

(I like to call him "Young William Speir" or "William Effingham Speir" to distinguish him from "Old William Edgecombe Speir" his presumed grandfather.

But, I think that Young William was still around later than 1831. He had a lot of kids. I have never seen a will for
him, and didn't find the record of an intestate William.

There was usually a William in every generation of Speirs.

My greatgrandfather was the Rev. James Speir. Young William's son. He had a brother William, and a son, William Lee Speir.

I think most of the Speirs remaining in Bryan and Effignham Counties are descended from William Lee Speir.

I would like to hear more about what you have found and about your husbands line. I think my email address is in the old messages.
