It may be that the reason that the web page I mentioned couldn't be found is that it doesn't exist. When I was typing the message, I made a "brain-o". I should have said "GENWEB" (the other thing is a format for family trees).

One should be able to find any GENWEB page by going to the USGENWEB site and following the links. . The objective of the GENWEB project is to have a site for every state and county in the US. I have not found any that are missing, though some have more data than others.

In my orginal message I discussed some information that I had been given, or had assumed. I now have better information. My 4g-father, I now believe, was not Willis Speir, but his brother, Moore. Willis crossed me up by mentioning a William Speir in his will, and knowing some of the "right people." But, now that I have Moore's will, I see he mentions exactly the same people, says specifically that they are his children, whereas Willis only said "the below named persons." So, Willis was in effect, adopting his brothers children.

I also mentioned that I had been told that there were two incidents involving Speirs killed by slaves, but, that was incorrect. The only one that I can confirm is Harris Speir, killed Oct. 15, 1799 in Southhampton Co. Virginia. This was reported in several newspapers at the time. Another person, a J. Butts, was also killed.
