Spears/Speir Cemetery

I just wanted to let everyone know that I found a small family cemetery, Spears cemetery which should be Speir cemetery.
It is located just north of Van Buren ARK. On uniontown hwy between Dripping Springs and Uniontown.
There were only five graves all in one line side by side.

Matilda Speir b:May 28, 1827 d:July 21,1884
John Speir b:Sep 7,1819 d:April 12, 1888
Sara A wife of John b:dec 9,1830 d:mar 8,1894
T.U. Speir b: June 7, 1868 d: July 21, 1889
Horas Hicks son of Dr. ? 1899-1899

I hope this helps someone. I also have pictues of these graves if anyone needs them.

I find Spier/Speir and others as the spelling of my Spiers. I am looking for a James Spier/Speir who was born around 1675, fathered a daughter Mary about 1695. This dau. Mary married Caleb Coker and had a son by about 1714. In 1740 James Spier deeded land in Edgecombe Co., NC, to Caleb Coker for "love and affection". Some of us believe that this is the father of Mary Spier Coker. Others think it is a son-in-law of Caleb Coker.

Some suggest Dr. James Spier of Nansemond Co, VA, is the ancestor of the Edgecombe Co., NC Spiers.

Can anyone help?

Irene Marie Speir born March 29, 1919 whom married John Sylvester Kidwell.
There also was the following children:
Donna-lives in Oklahoma
Norma- lives in ETxas
Merna- lives in Oklahoma & Florida
Jimmy-Died in texas in 2004
Jack lives in California

Speir Family Cemetery - Monroe Co GA

Who might have been buried in a Speir Family Cemetery that would have been moved with Lake Juliette was created in eastern Monroe County Georgia?

All the above "family cemeteries" were re-located in 1975 - 1976 when Lake Juliette was built. Its new location is on the left side of The Juliette united Methodist Church. These family Cemeteries all are enclosed in a fenced in area next to the church. The Cemeteries have only small numbered markers as may be seen in some of the photos. There are no headstones to tell us who is buried there.

I am searching for the decendants of the children
of John Spier,School Master of Edgecombe Co. NC.
John died abt 1790. His wife Christian Benton and their
son Benton removed to Clarke Co. Ga, where Christian died
about 1808/9. Their other children were Son
Harris Spier who was murdered by one of his
slaves in Va 1799. He had bought land in Hancock Co. Ga prior
to his death, but I don't know if he had actually moved there.
He had a son Phillip Spear, who married and had children. One
of his daughters Martha(Aunt Pattie) married
Quinney Lewis in NC and moved to Marion Co. Ms and died in Pike Co. Ms.
He left a son John Spier,who was to have the
plantation,daughter Rosy Spier was left furniture, daughter
Absella Spier married Rev. Isham Pittman and lived in Robeson
Co. NC.Absella and Isham had no children.
Believe that Harris had a daughter Mary Spier who married Wm, Barnes and removed to
Marion Co. Ms.
I would like to complete this family history.
Can any one add data to this family. Need Spouces and names of
children.
Harris Spier may have had another daughter
named Rosanna who married Wm Thompson Jr. in
Robeson Co. NC. Oct 27, 1810. They removed to
Carroll Co. Ms.

My great great great grandfather is John Speir born approx 1775 (West Kilbride, Ayrshire Scotland). He married Janet Dickie born approx 1780 and supposedly had 14 children. Some of the childrens names are Allan Speir(s) 1804, John Speir(s) 1802 (my great great grandfather), Janet Speir(s) 1807, Mary Margaret Speir(s) 1806, James Speir(s) 1809 (who may have died at birth), Hugh Speir(s) 1811, another James Speir(s) December 1825.

Anyone with any information regarding this side of the Speir(s) family would be appreciated. Thank you.

Looking for family of Allan Joseph Speir and Louise Broadbeck of Carlos, Maryland. Louise was first wife. Allan later married a Kathryn Makepeace of Pennsylvania. Need parentage for both Allan and Louise. In the 1900 census for Allegany County, MD, Allen was 44 years old, parents were both from Scotland, but he was born in MD. I know nothing of Louise Broadbeck except that she was the mother listed in the obit for their son Allen, Jr.

Willelmus Sper was a witness in Perth in the reign of Alexander II (1214-1249).
Gilbert Spere was a juror in Irvine 1417.
Roger Spere had a tenement in Irvine 1418.
David Spere was a Burgess of Glasgow 1475.
Alexander Speir of Petincrefe 1476.
John Speire witnessed a document in Glasgow 1516
Thomas Speir was a Merchant Burgess of Edinburgh 1626
David Speir was bailie of Irvine 1664.

Spiers or Speirs may mean son of Spier or Speir.

Orlando Silas Speir was the son of Seth and Casandana Bean Speir of West Salem, Mercer County, PA. Seth was the son of John Harnit Speir and Sarah Smail; John H. the son of John Speir and Ann "Nancy" Harnit.

I am searching for Pat & Bet Speirs. They are not any of my ancestors (I don't think) but rather some nice people that recently sent me a very informative message in reply to one of my earlier ones.

I very carefully saved their message so that I could study it and answer it, but now I find that I didn't save the darned return address, so I don't know how to reply.

This message has some more insight into the origin of the name "Speir" and its distribution. Pat & Bet live in Ayr, Scotland and include some background on that area also. Ayr (and nearby counties) is the location of the largest concentration Speirs in Scotland in recent times. And maybe it always has been. .

I hope that Pat & Bet will post the whole message for everyone here to share when they find it appropriate.

John (JACK) Speir

From the Crawford County Historical Society:

In the early 1850's Sarah Ann married John (some say he was always called Jack) Speir. On the 1880 census, John Speir gives his birthplace as Alabama and where it asked where his parents were born, he reports, " unknown". According to the Goodspeed's Census of NW Arkansas, John's son, Gus, said his father was born in Tennessee but moved to Alabama and then Georgia at an early age, receiving his common school education in Georgia.

I hope this helps maybe we can be looking in the Tenn. and Alabama records.

John J SPEARS, Kershaw Co, SC

Because of the excellent research done by George Spear and documented in his book “Spear, Spier, Speer and Friends”, I have been able to determine that my GGG Grandfather was JOHN J SPEARS. He died in 1842 in Kershaw County SC leaving his wife ANNA (LNU) and three sons, JOHN H, DEMPSEY G and WILLIAM H. I have not, however, been able to find the ancestors of John J Spears.

There are at lest two schools of thought. One is that John is a descendent of James Edwin Spears and Lydia Meekins of Marlboro County SC. The other is that he is a descendant of James Speir/Spier and Elizabeth Coker of Edgecombe and Halifax Counties NC.

I tend to favor the NC connection because of the similarities of the family given names, however, nothing can be proven. If anyone has information, thoughts, ideas or suggestions that would link JOHN J SPEARS to either of theses families (or any other Spears family), I would sincerely appreciate any and all input.

I am trying to get information on my grandfather, John J. Speir, all that I know is that he was born about 1859, worked as a rep. for the Singer Sewing Machine Company in South America and Albuquerque, NM. He married Martha Francis (Patti) Crisp from Uvalde, TX around 1900 and died on Nov. 12, 1919 in Albuquerque. He may have had a sister named Mae Mac Elwen who may have lived in New Bern, NC.

Any help will be appreciated, I am well aquainted with the "brick wall".

I have always thought that the "K" in Benjamin Franklin K Speir's name stood for Kent, per my grandfather's memory, which was not faltering. Recently with correspondence from several other researchers, they have the "K" as standing for Kingston.
I have not found Kent or Kingston in any of the family lines. However, either could stand for a place name. Is there any evidence one way or the other?

I am searching for information on John Smith SPEIR, who was my great-great grandfather. He married Tempia PHILLIPS Rush in Spetember 1891. John Smith SPEIR was born 22 March 1840 in Pennsylvania. He had three children by his first wife, name unknown. The three children were: Oral Speir, born 1882; Sadie Evelyn Speir, born late 1880's; and Nettie Speir, born 1890. John Smith SPEIR is buried at Belton Missouri and died on 25 September 1893. I have been told that he was the son of John Harnitt SPEIR, but I am not certain of this fact. Would like to hear from anyone with any information. I have photo of John Smith SPEIR and will be glad to exchange info.
