P. Everett Sperry, Kansas Legislator

Hi all,

P Everett Sperry married into my family (through Olleva Fink) in 1914. He later, in 1970, self-published a book called "Sod to Sodom". Part autobiography, part folk history of rural Kansas in the early 20th century, part political commentary. I've read through the book and gleaned anything I need, and would like to pass this on to anyone else who might be interested. Please contact me if you're interested.

Vesta

They could very well be connected. Did you read the post above my last one, from Eileen Howard? Sounds like the same family. Have you checked the Norristown censuses? I have plenty of Edwards information but I cannot get anywhere with the Landises or Sperrys.

John A Sperry, Death 1860 CA, b.VT

Stockton Daily Argus
Stockton, San Joaquin Co., CA
10-15 December 1860
*************************

>>Monday, 10 Dec 1860<<

DIED -- in this city, on Sunday, 8th inst., Mr. John A. SPERRY, aged 32. [Funeral will take place at the Weber House this day (Monday) at 2 o'clock p.m. Friends and acquaintances are invited to attend.]

SUDDEN DEATH -- We are pained to announce the death of Mr. John A. SPERRY, one of the proprietors of the Weber House, which took place in this city yesterday morning at 2 o'clock after an illness of but a few days duration. Mr. SPERRY was a native of Claremont, N.H., and came to California in 1852, since which time he resided in Sierra county, where he was engaged in mercantile pursuits. In April last, he assumed part proprietorship of the Weber House, and by his excellence of life and character acquired the respect and esteem of all with whom he came into business or social relation. His funeral will take place today from the Weber House, under the direction of the Odd Fellows, of which Order he was a member. He also formerly held the position of Master of Windsor Lodge, No. 116, F.&A.M. The entire community will regret the loss of an estimable citizen and sympathise with the relatives of the deceased in their bereavement.

>>Tuesday, 11 Dec 1860<<

OBSEQUIES -- The funeral of the late John A. SPERRY, whose death occurred in this city on Sunday morning last, took place yesterday afternoon from the Weber House. The procession was unusually large and indicated the esteem in which the public held the deceased while living. It was preceded by a large delegation from the I.O.O.F., each of whom wore the badge of mourning and the emblematic sprig of evergreen.
Hi:
I have a family tree with loads of info of the Sperry's. My grandmother was Lelia Sperry, daughter of Calvin from here in New Haven county. Richard Sperry fed the and hid the regicides in his home on the lower road in Woodbridge, CT. He was my (10th) great grandfather. I would love to hear from anyone that knows more on our family. The family tree was done back in the 50's by my great aunt. It is so interesting.

Most of the Sperry's in my family came from Iowa, but not sure if ours are related. They probably are, but not sure which ancestors we may have in common. I have quite a bit of information stored in an excel file as a family tree. Goes all the way back to John Sperry of Bedfordshire, England. I do show an Edward Sperry in my file with a birth date of about 1847. Please let me know if you would like a copy of this file.

Hi R. J.,

Just found your posting on SPERRY families; I would love to talk to you, as the 'Sperry lines you listed as being your lines' are in fact 'my Sperry lines as well'. I descend from "Richard Sperry", born Thurleigh Parish, Bedfordshire, England, died 1698, New Haven, CT; his son Richard Sperry, born New Haven, CT, died 1734, New Haven, CT; his son Moses Sperry #1 born 1681, New Haven, CT, died 1754 New Haven, CT; his son Moses Sperry #2 born 1708, New Haven, CT, died ?; his son Moses Sperry #3 born 1744, New Haven, CT, died 1812, VT; his son Abel Sperry born 1771, Stratford, CT. A son of Abel Sperry was, "Ira Sperry #1", and a son of 'Ira Sperry #1' was, "Rufus Alvin Sperry, born PA, died 1921, MO/AR (buried Eureka Springs, Carroll County, ARK), and a son of 'Rufus Alvin Sperry' was, "William Rice Sperry" born St. Claire County, MO, died April 1942 ARK (buried Eureka Springs, Carroll County, ARK) who was my Gr. Grandfather - "Will" Sperry, as he was known to family & friends, married 'Frances Rosa (Martin) Sperry, Feb. 1896, Eureka Springs, Carroll County, ARK'. "Will & Rosie (Martin) Sperry" raised my Mother from infancy until she married.

I have a large amount of Sperry family information on my "William Rice Sperry" lines; however, from reading your posted message, it appears that you would have far more extensive records, materials, etc., than what I've been able to locate or obtain -- I would greatly appreciate your sharing any Sperry family information with me; such items as old photos, records, etc., should you be willing? I have a few old photos of some Sperry family members; and family information I have that I am willing to share with other Sperry family researchers. Some of my Sperry lines also wound up in Utah and other western states too.

I found it interesting that you listed Surnames of 'Sperry and Thomas' in your posted message; 'Thomas' is my maiden name. Could there possibly be a connection between our families by 'both Surnames'?? L O L !!

You mentioned a C/D in your possession that contains a great deal of infor. on the extended Sperry families with roots going back to time of Jesus; and to royal houses of England and Europe -- can you tell me "if or where that C/D might still be available" - the 'Name Listing of C/D' or if it's still available on market for sale? If not, I'd be willing to pay for a copy of C/D.

Please contact me regarding these SPERRY families! I may be reached directly at address below.

JCrouch94@sbcglobal.net

Thanks so much for any help, information, records, etc., that you have available!

My grandfather was an Orlando Ellsworth Sperry born in Kandiyohi Co in 1896.
I have some information on him and his family which I would be pleased to share if you are interested.

I am trying to find out more information on my grandmother, Hazel Sperry Baird. She was born 4/17/1889 in Osceola, Iowa and died 1/20/1958 in San Diego, CA. She married Frank Chapman Baird in 1907 in Osceola, Iowa. All I know is that she was a daughter of Edward Sperry and Cara Adelle Williams. Both of her parents died when she was young and she was raised by her grandparents. Please if anyone has more information on the Sperry and/or Williams family lines I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't think our Edwards are the same. My Edward Sperry was born in 1861 Des Moines, Iowa and living with his wife, Cara Adelle "Della" in 1885 Osceola, Clarke, Iowa with Della's family. I believe they were just married then.
Do you have a Edward born abt. 1861 in Des Moines? I have been unable to find his parents.
If not, it probably wouldn't do me any good to have your report being that I don't have his parentage.
Thanks for the offer anyway.

Hi, your post is perfectly timed: in four years of research, I've just this week arrived at Moses Sperry in my writing. But what I really need is information on him in regard to Olive Oatman: she and Lorenzo stayed with him in the summer of 1858, he presumably took her to have her photo taken at Powelson Studio in Rochester that summer, she visited other relatives in the area, one of whom offered to pay for her to go to Bloomfield Academy (she didn't go, but she did, I think, lecture there). If you have anything from this period, I'd appreciate knowing (as would, I believe, the East Bloomfield Historical society, which has been helping me). I'm at mmifflin@optonline.net. Thanks!
Margot Mifflin

I am webmaster for the 1-14th website www.1-14th.com and am beginning memorial pages. I would love to find a picture of him and information on his gravesite. Also, any words by friends or family would be most welcome. Thank you, Candace

Querry if you found a home for the book,"Our Sperry Family Line - 1586 - 1968" which you offered last March.

I'm still interested, if the book is available. I'll pay a reasonable price for the book and postage to mail.

Jim Wright (NavyHomer@aol.com)
Huntington, WV

HI this is really late, but better late than never. I have records on the Sperry lineage that I've worked on for some 15 years now. While far from complete, this is my own lineage also. This family came from England , when Richard Sperry, of Thurleigh Parish, Bedfordshire, England, landed at Boston Colony on about the 26th of June,1637. He married Dennis (Denise) Goodyear of Monkleigh, Devon, England in 1644, after attaining his Freedmanship and acquiring some land, which was given him by Deputy Stephen Goodyear, Governor. This lineage goes down to each and every one of the SPERRY family members you see in the USA today.
As for Joy and Mary Ann's daughter Olivia, perhaps try the IOWA records to see if anything is there- after all, that family did travel to Utah with the Mormon movement. Several members of the family died en route.
I do have a CD that contains a great deal of info on the extended SPERRY family, with roots going back to the time of Jesus. This is one of the families connected to the royal houses of England and Europe. I also have a great deal of information on the SPERRY family that I have amassed thru the years, from Richard on down.
Take care and peace!!

RJ Lewis....SPERRY, THOMAS (Wales), KRAUSE, and RASSLER (vonRassler- Germany)
