Although you may make personal assumptions, it is a good idea to thoroughly research and prove your information. Sometimes these people were spending time with family members or relatives because of flu epidemics, etc. when the census taker came around. I can give you the name of a Sturkey researcher who has written several books on that and other families in the area at that time. There is loads of information out there, archives, books, etc. that folks have written.....also ancestry.com which is not always accurate. Other sources also not accurate, but fun to swap info and see where it leads.

I also found in the 1850 census records an ann spires she was living with the joiner's I believe something must have happened to the parents and they were all probably siblings maybe Mary Sturkey is an older sister and Maria Joiner would make sense that older sisters would have taking in younger siblings if the parents died. Oh well untill i'm told i'm wrong(i prolly am lol) i've listed Mary Maria Ann and Thomas all as siblings of Giles/Jiles. Also in the 1840 census are listed Anthony and Rueben Spires neither one are in the 1850 census possibly one was Giles's father.ok i'm rambling now...

Secret of the seven sisters ?????

My great grandmother Nellie Jane Spires Collinsworth once told me that she had special powers. She was the seventh of seven sisters and that made her special. She claimed that sometimes she dreamed of things that came to pass (both good and bad) and that she could pass over a spot where something bad had happened and now about it. An example she gave me was where a car wreck had happened years before. She had never been down the road and did not know of the wreck but when the car she was traveling in passed over the spot where someone had died she suddenly got a vision of something that had happened. She could tell it was bad as people were crying there was a loud noise and then suddenly silence.

I may be that she was just telling me a tale tell as I was about 12 at the time but was wonder if anyone else had ever heard of their being a mystery concerning being the seventh of seven sisters.

Please e-mail me at tkennedy@our-town.com as I would like input on this.
Tracy
I saw a message thread on Ancestry.com from 2000, that indicates you have a will for Richard Spires. Would you be willing to email me a copy? I am a descendent of Richard Spires via his son Henry Spires, his son Lindsey Spires, his son Daniel Alfred (or Frederick) Spires, his son Daniel L Spires is my father.

If you have any further information about Henry, Lindsey and Daniel Alfred, I would love to verify what I have is accurate. You also state that you have a copy of Richard Spires' will. In turn I would be very willing to share anything that I have that you may not have.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Donna
There is a Daniel & Eunice Spires living in Wilcox County in 1910. Children listed are Reason A, William C., Cleveland W., John C., Leroy, and Mary. Living next door is a William Self and family. Could this be your Daniel Spires?

Thanks. My grandfather's people are out of California by way of Illinois back in 1850. His family always told tales of 3 brothers coming to America together and of the Patriarch of the Illinois line being a boy in Carolina during the revolution. No body seems to know if it was north or south Carolina. I have heard that the Georgia branch of the Spires family also traces its line back to one of the Carolina's. Any imput from your or your family would be appreciated.
