This reply is likely too late to help. My mother was a Spivey from Dothan, Al. Desma Spivey (later know as Desma Sue or Sue. Her parents were Sam & Ellen (Kelley), who was the sister of Millie Kelley who married John Halstead, lived on Rt. 2 outside of Dothan, AL, so the Spiveys and Halsteads were double cousins. I heard my Mother & her sisters speak of Bug, Gid (Gideon), Liza, Lucinda, Taylor & Ella. I believe some of them lived in Phenix City, AL. Taylor was married to Ida & had a granddaughter named Sue Lynn who I was friends with for a while when they moved to Miami, FL. The Spiveys, Halsteads, & Kelleys were all very close during that time. I have very little information prior to my mother's generation. Am interested in finding out anything I can. Sam Spivey was the Coroner of Houston County when he died. His father who was also Sam was a Preacher & I believe he was married at least 2 times. Once to Sarah? Thanks for any help. Also, all of them were active in the Singing Conventions & some were singing teachers of Shaped Notes. Ellie Sue (Lowe) Cinelli

The Alexander Spivey (son of Edmund Jr.) who married Marintha Davis (oldest daughter of Thomas Davis)is my great grandfather born 3/6/1831 and died 11/11/1909 and buried in Adrian, Ga. He was John A. Spivey's(Sheriff) 1815-1893 youngest brother, not his son. John A.(Sheriff) married Martha Davis one of Marintha's cousins. Marintha's Aunt Bethany Davis(sister of Thomas) married John A. and Alexander's brother Irwin(born 1824, died 1865). My records indicate that Sheriff John A. did have a son Alexander born in 1853 and died in 1874. My great grandfather Alexander also had a son John A. born 1867 and his brother Irwin also had a son John born 1855.
The re-occurrence of the same names in a lot of the families get rather confusing!

I'm also trying to find information regarding my family. My father was from Georgia. His name was Willie Bernard Spivey. He passed away in 1970. He was born around 1928. I do not know folks from the Spivey side of the family; although I knew my father well. I've met several Spivey's however, I would not know if we were related. I would like to find some of my Spivey kin folk.

Looking for ancestors of my great great grandfather, James L. Spivey, born in North Carolina around 1820. Moved to Mississippi, where his son, my great grandfather son James Bryant Spivey was born in 1850. At some time James L. moved to Walker County, Texas where he died in 1872. His children are Madeline Helen, James Bryant b1850 d1907, and Henry Clay Spivey, b1850 d1923. James Bryant Spivey, my great grandfather, married Albina Williamson, b1860 in Mississippi, d1942 in Houston, Texas. Thier children are Georgia, Maude, Walter, Meneola, Mamie, Lula, Jesse, Lawrence Loenard Spivey, (my grandfather), and Leona Spivey. I am stuck and can find nothing beyond my gggrandfather James L. Spivey. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I am just beginning to research this line. From the dates I have collected....
Ezekial Fuller I 1675-1722 and Sarah Martiau 1629-1695, it would make Sarah being Ezekial's mother unlikely.(Not impossible) She would have been 45-46 years old when he was born. This is assuming my dates are correct. If you have discovered new information, please share with me. Or whatever information you have would be greatly appreciated.

God Bless, Shelley Thompson
just3thompson@yahoo.com

Dear Lynne
I've only just come across this trail on Ancestry. I'm researching my Spivey family in the parish records of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and have found a family there where the spelling of the name varies in the original parish records between Spivey, Spibey, Spivy and Spiby. William Spivy's son William Spiby (b 1744) had children Anne (b, 1764)Sarah (b 1766) and Mary Spivey (b 1775). An earlier daughter (b & d 1766) has the name Spivy as has daughter Frances (b 1778) whereas sons William (b 1769) John (b 1772) and James (b 1789) and daughter Elisabeth (b 1762) are all listed as Spiby. The families themselves couldn’t write (X his/her mark on the marriage registers), but it’s interesting that the vicars or churchwardens did not feel that a consistent approach to the spelling was needed as the spelling often changing between two baptism records performed by the same vicar, written by the same hand, on the same register page. My Spivey family (Thomas and Mary)are not originally from Notts, they seem to have moved there from Yorkshire - Thomas was born in Kirkheaton, Yorks in around 1738 but his sons were born in the early 1770s in Mansfield. Do contact me if you want any more info.
Best
Diane

I am not even sure just where since her parents were railroad people. But its been family talk that their daughter Floy was born in Ms. So any tidbit of info I can trace might help me to reveal something about this man. Thanks

A Times-Star reporter in company with the marshal and several others hastily boarded the hand-car at this place and went with utmost speed to Lawrence to identify the body and remove it from the track. On arriving at the place designated by the negroes what a ghastly sight was presented to their view. There just beside the main track and between it and the switch lay the body of a boy mashed and mangled into a shapeless bleeding mass of flesh and rags. From his waist downward nothing of human shape was recognizable; his bowels were torn out and the flesh literally peeled from his legs and strewn along the track, while the bones were broken in numberless pieces and likewise scattered. His head was badly mashed and a great knot protruded from above his left eye. Later when the remains were being gathered together and washed it was ascertained that the poor boy's neck was broken. It was indeed a most sickening sight and one before which the stoutest heart would quail. In the boy's pockets were found two letters, a railroad map, a French Harp and some parched corn. From the letters it was learned that his father, J. E. Spivey, lived near Daugherty and that the boy was just returning from a visit to relatives in Smith County. Knowing that his parents were this close at hand it was thought that he might be acquainted or related to some people in Lawrence. Accordingly a number were awakened and brought to the body and immediately recognized it to be the body of John Spivey well known to the people of Lawrence as the son of J. E. Spivey, of Daugherty. The boy also had some relatives in Lawrence and it was doubtless the desire to see these relatives that occasioned the fatal leap from the train. The remains were removed to the residence of Little Harper, an uncle of the boy and prepared for burial, while the sad news was at once conveyed to the parents of the lad, who arrived Sunday morning. His mother was wild with grief and could scarcely be held in the wagon on the way to Lawrence. The remains were entered in the cemetery at the above mentioned place Sunday morning.

I believe I am a descendant of Dixon Spivey thru Dixon Jr to my Grandfather Berton E Spivy Sr who was one of 12, living in Muskogee, OK when my father Berton E Spivy Jr was born in 1911. My Grandfather moved to Dallas and as a furrier making many buying trips to NY was reportedly upset at the pronunciation of Spivy so he added the e back into the name to be Spivey. My dad went to West Point, got stationed while in the Army in Hawaii where I was born as Berton E Spivy III Oct 1937 and now reside somewhat in Yuma AZ (I am a full time RVer who goes to cooler climes in summer)

I am trying to find out when and why the Spivey name back inWilliam, then Dixon and Aaron's day was changed to Spivy.

Here is a phone and email- 509-280-9983, bspivy@yahoo.com...

Thanks in advance for any info... bert
