John and Nicholas Spoden

I am looking to connect John Spoden with Nicholas Spoden, I think they were brothers. John (Johan)born 1820 Prussia, died 1878, married Margaret Deisburg 1853. Nicholas Spoden born 1824 Prussia, died 1896 Iowa, married Elizabeth Mertes 1858. Nicholas came to Dubuque 23 Aug 1851 abord the ship Atlanta. John cam in 1852, unable to find him in the passenger lists. Looking for parents or any siblings

Can you tell me where in Germany your family Spoden's were from?

I haven't been able to explore in Germany itself yet. I do know that LDS has some of the church records for the small towns around Prüm, but I haven't found the time to go to Salt Lake yet.

The Spoden's of my wife's family were from small towns around Prüm. The town my wife's great grandfather (Eberhard Spoden) was born in was Schönfeld, Kreis Prüm, Germany. Schönfeld is a tiny town just north and east of Prüm. The Spoden name (and it's spelling variations - Spoden, Spoiden, Spoidenne) is centered about Belgium, Luxembourg, and those areas in France and Germany close to Luxembourg and Belgium. My wife's great, great grandfather (Eberhard's father) was also a Joshn Spoden. He was born 1824 and died 1891 in central Minnesota. It is likely he was from Schönfeld, but I don't have confirmation of that. They were at least living there when his eldest son Eberhart was born. His wife Margaretha Twomey was from Olzheim, another small town near Prüm, close to Schönfeld. Almost all of the Spoden's in Minnesota are from this one family line.

As a side light, there is a book that you might find interesting reading. The title is "Enemy In The Dark - The Story Of a Night-Fighter Pilot" ISBN 1 84145 032 4. It's from a British Publishing House, Cervrus Publishing Limited. The author wrote it to tell his grandchildren about his WWII experiences. The author is one Peter Spoden from Prüm. One has to question where his family connection might be.

Do you have any information of John Spoden, born May 15, 1828 in Germany, died Dec 25, 1886, married to Anna Kirscht from Germany. They had daughters Anna Louise Spoden and Evangelina or Magdalena Spoden who came to America in 1881 and settled in Iowa.

Hi, my son is a relative of Anna Louise Spoden and her first husband Joseph Pfeffer thru their daughter Ella Emma Pfeffer and her husband Robert Ernest Hodges. Ellas and Robert had a son Robert Arnold Hodges (deceased) who was my son's grandfather Do you have any information on the Pfeffer and Spoden families? Sarah

Do you have any information of Anna Louis Spoden, daughter of John Spoden and Anna Kirsct. She came to America in 1881 and married Joseph Pfeffer in 1884 in Kansas.

Hi,

I'm looking for any information about my great grandmother - Lousia (or Louise) Spoden. We have little information but believe she came to America via New York in 1880/1881 at the age of 19. Family info says she was with her sister Lena (Evangelina, Magdalena??) and her father John. She was born Nov. 19, 1862, Mittendorf, Germany. Died March 22, 1948, Cement, Ok, buried IOOF Cemetery, Norman, OK. Lived in Council Bluff and then Sioux City, Iowa briefly. Married Joseph Pferffer and then my great grandfather Thomas Ira Durham. I have quite a bit of information on the Molitor/Spoden connection in Aurora. I was getting ready to send out my information that i have collected to other family members. My original contact to the Spoden family was Connie List. My parents names were Eugene Marilyn Molitor, my grandfather Paul Peter Molitor was your grandmother's (Frances Anna Molitor) brother. Good to see that someone else is out there looking. I have Peter Spoden who was born July 1863 in Louisiana. His parents were from Germany. He was married to Catherine LaPlanche. They lived in Chicago. Peter had a son, Mathias. I believe Peter may have been the son of a Mathias as well. Other children were Gertrude, Angela, Hubert and Katie. Could this be a connection to your family?

My grandmother was Susan Spoden Anderson. She was born in Cold Springs, MN June 24, 1899. Her fathers name was Edward Spoden married to a Mary from Hungary born Nov 21, 1867 died Jul 06, 1952

Hi, My name is Sherri. My grandparents were Albert Spoden and Mary Acheson. Albert's first marriage was to Catherine Streit and they had 5 children Robert, Richard, Milly, Joanne, William. He then married Mary and had 5 more children including my mom Margaret. My mom spoke alot about Pammy & Donna (Not sure if this is you) If there is a connection here I would love to forward the information I have collected on the family.

Thank you for your response. I do not believe this is the Mathias Spoden I am looking for. The Mathias I am looking for was born in Prussia, however, would be older since his 6th child was born in 1872. He married Barbara Brauner who was born in Bavaria. The lived in the West Chicago IL and Aurora IL area. This may be another branch of the family that I can look for further information regarding.

There were lots of Mathias Spoden in our family. I know of one who went to Pittsburgh, USA (date unknown). He was born between 1852 and 1857 (Place unknown, probably Daleiden (Germany) or Longvilly (Belgium). We have to look further to get more information about him.

My name is Pam Spoden,I am a cousin to Connie List. I am recently starting to look into the family history. I do have some info as to birth dates/death dates etc. I would appreciate if you would mail me what info you have and if you give me your address I can do the same. By the way, Gilbert is my father so if you mail the info to me I will make sure he receives it. He and my mother have recently sold their house to move in to a condo. I am looking for descendants of the Spoden family from Aurora IL. I know of John, Mathias and Angela (Spoden) Ries. I believe their father was also Mathias. He became a US citizen in 1872 in Wheaton. If you have any info please let me know. I am willing to share as well.
