The intervening nine years must have added considerably to your knowlege!!
I have two Springetts in my tree - the Luke you mention. His youngest son Henry married Emma Cant, the daughter of Mary Ann Lappage and Zachariah Cant in the Lexden reg. district in 1868.
My other Springett is also a Lappage connection - she is Mary Springett b. cir 1735 who married John Lappage in Stanway on October 16th 1755. I know nothing whatever about her. Do you?
Mary and John had children Mary (who married Wm Potter and whose son, also Wm, was hung at Chelmsford gaol in 1814), William (b.1759 d.bef. 1767), Ann (1761-1781), Judith (1763 - married John Andrews Stanway 1785), John (1765 - married Mary Howe in Copford in 1784), William (my 4 x gr grandfather 1767-1841 married 1.Jane Thorington and 2. Sarah Drane), Abraham (1770-1786) and Hannah (1772-1772).
I would very much like to have any further information.

Hello Anita,

I'm afraid I can't help you with any more other than what's in the obituary. The Springett family is no relation of mine. I was transcribing obituaries for a local genealogy project and found this in an old local paper. I live in Almont and this obituary was in the archives of the library here. I was hoping I could help someone out by posting the obituary to the message board.

Good luck with your research. I hope the obituary was able to help you some.

Dear Stuart,
Yes, the "Experiences in the Life of Mary Pennngton" has been published (Philadelphia: The Biddle Press: 1911! & London: Headley Bros) but may be hard to get ahold of. In the front there is a family tree, and other info of great interest.
Gulielma is postuma because she was born after the death of her father (Mary Proude Springett Pennington's first husband, Sir William Springett) in 1643 after the Battle of Arundel. Sir William had a brother herbert, a father Herbert (m. Katherine Partridge d.1620) and grandfather Herbert (m. Anne Stempe). Mary Proude was orphaned and raised in the household of Madame Katherine Springett, and then later married her son, William, and so was raised by the woman who was to become her Mother-in Law. Very complex!! It is this Katherine Springett that was famed as an Oculist, and whose medicinal manuscript is the subject of my research.
Have yopu access to a fax? I could send the family tree from Experiences...

Mary Proude, Gulielma's mother, was Not the oculist, I believe. Rather Madame Katherine Springett, her mother-in-law and in whose household she was raised, was the oculist. Mary Proude Springett Pennington wrote an account "Experiences in the Life of Mary Pennington" in which she describes the skills of this Lady.

Finding the Earls Court Springett line

I am hoping to either contact my cousins Susan & Jimmy Springett and filling in the gaps in the Family tree or find some of the lost line..
They lived at Hesper Mews Earls Court London where the Chase Manhatten Bank now stands. The last information I had was the Susan had moved to Scotland and was a Teacher.

This line is related to Jim Springett (also of the same address) who passed away in 1984 & was 99 1/2 yrs of age at the time

Susannah married Thomas Babb Langdon and became my gt grandparents before they came to the US.
Stuart

Hi Denise,

You are correct about Frederick James West. To get directly from them to myself, you go like this:

Frederick & Anne had amongst others, a daughter called Mahala (It starts off "Mahalah", but changes in later life) Harriet West in 1894. Something awful apparently happened to Mahala, which I'm still trying to get to the bottom of, but nobody will talk about it. I still need to find her death certificate.

Mahalah/Mahala Harriet West married 6 Jan 1915 to Frederick Emery (1893-1965 - apparently a bit of a dubious character). They had 3 sons, of which one was Arthur William Emery (b. 1919 - I think he died in 1990 or 1991 - I remember the funeral was freezing cold, so around Jan/Feb time).

Arthur married in 1946 to Clara Mary Smith. Among other kids was my mother (b. 1948) and she married a Coulls (From the Cornish Cowls/Cowles/Coulls group) and out I popped in Chatham during 1972.

>>Did you know about the Saddlers and Harness makers shop on Chatham High Street J R Springett & Sons? I have a picture of it.<<
I was aware that John Richard was a saddler and later known as a coachman... But that's about all I know.

Send an email to Coulls@sympatico.ca and I can forward you what I have...

Hi Les

Saw your message about your Springetts in Little Cornard and wondered whether the name Edward George Springett born c1860 (registered September quarter) connected into your tree. He had a son, Richard Chambers Springett born 1895. Richard was killed in the first world war and there is a short bio and photo of him in the Great Eastern Railway Magazine.

Working back I think Edward George's parents were Edward and Eliza, and his grandparents may have been a Thomas and Maria (Thomas born in Gt Henny, Essex). However, this isn't my branch so don't quote me!

A friend on RootsChat sent me a copy of the page but unfortunately my Springetts were from Rivenhall and aren't as far as I know connected.

Let me know if you'd like a copy.

regards

Helen

Are there any male Springates out there who have wondered
where there distant ancestors come from? I am starting up a
DNA project to ascertain whether any of us have a common ancestor. I run a one name study for the above names in England and as a result of this I am in touch with many people
bearing these names and who appear, at the moment, to be unrelated. The aim of the project is to try and find out which of us are distantly related to one another which may solve some of the ancestry problems we encounter.
If there are any males bearing either of the two surnames who are interested in taking part in the project please contact me.
The costs is $99 and the test only involves having a mouth swab taken - quite painless.
