REPLY TO HOW I AM RELATED TO MCKINNEYS

I have been off the computer for a while. but since our reunion is coming up this June 30 - July 2. at Mt Zion AME Zion Church in Fort Mill SC .I decide to see what is going on on the web. The Mckinneys are related to me by my Great great grand father SAM Mckinney. We have a picture of him. He lived to be 117 years old.HE AT ONE TIME WAS LISTED TO BE THE OLDEST MAN LIVING IN CHARLOTTE,NC. This was listed in a 1949 newspaper. He had a home near the Arrowood area which is now Carowinds Amusement Park.
My mother new him. We only new that Sam had one son name Prince Mckinney. He may have had more children but no one ever knew. My family only knew of Sam Mckinney as an older man. We do not know of his younger years. We do know that he was a slave and was from Africa. Prince mckinney married Laura Springs my great grand mother. They all lived near the Fort Mill, SC and South Charlotte area now called the carowinds area. As I was told Prince Mckinney got in trouble and had to leave Laura Springs in North Carolina. He was sent to Florida by the(white) Bayles family. In short this is how all of the Mckinneys got to Florida. Prince married again in Florida and started a family there. We are in contact with the decendents of the Mckinneys in Florida and they are considered our close cousins aunts and uncles. We can only asume that the actress was related to Sam Mckinney because they were from the same area and there just were not a lot of us around back then. especially living that close to each other and sharing the same Mxckinney name.

"Anny" was Anna Springs who married her brother-in-law, Joseph B. Snider, after her sister, Dorcus Springs, died. Perhaps "Betsy" might be a nickname for Elizabeth, another sister of Anna and Dorcus.

I do not have dates for Elizabeth SPRINGS. I am researching my g-g-grandmother, Dorcus SPRINGS. After Dorcus died, her husband, Joseph B. SNIDER, married her sister Anna. Dorcus and Joseph's son, James SNIDER/SNYDER married Clarke Ann BELCHER in Crittondon Co., KY. James and Clarke Ann moved to Marion Co., IL. According to my father, Joseph B. Snider married and outlived 5 wives and they are all buried next to him. In addition to Dorcus and Anna SPRINGS, he supposedly married another pair of sisters and one single. I do not have any proof on these other 3 marriages.
I found my information on Elizabeth on this genealogy site. If you do a search for Elizabeth, there are 12 entries found. Go to the one titled "Margaret SPRING" listed by Charles Day on 18 June 2000. He lists several sisters. Perhaps he has dates for these other siblings. Somewhere else I found some brothers listed for Dorcus and Anna. I will check my files and see if I can find where I got that info.

Hyde/Wilson Co Springs

Greetings. Being a descendant of the Springs family I was delighted to find a page devoted to them. I'm a descendant of the Hyde Co. NC, and Wilson Co, Tenn clan, part of whom later moved to Texas. Specifically, my ggggrandfather was Samuel Lewis Springs, born 10 November 1814 in Wilson Co. His father was Abner Springs, born c. 1768 in Hyde Co NC. I've done a lot of research on the Hyde/Wilson Co Spring's and would be more than happy to share that information with anyone out there. Since this branch of the Springs also lived for awhile in Williamson Co, Illinois, I have some info on that end as well.

I look forward to hearing from some of my fellow cousin's out there, and would like to follow up with some of you to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge of the family. Take care, and god bless.

Sue Reynolds,

I'm sorry to tell you that Abner Springs was not the father of Margaret Spring. His daughters were Polly, Peggy, Sally, Elizabeth, Anny, Nancy, Dorcas, and Winny. There were several Spring or Springs family members who migrated from Hyde County NC to Wilson County TN in the late 1790's or early 1800's, including Abner's brothers John, Moses and Benjamin (Benjamin could be an uncle instead; not sure on this point). Unfortunately, I don't have a record of most of their children. I will do some checking to see if I can find out anything about Margaret or Joseph. In the meantime, its good to hear from another one of the Springs clan! Take care.

Charles

Dennis,

I do not have the dates for Elizabeth Springs (daughter of Abner), however, I don't think she is the Betsy Ann you're looking for. Elizabeth married Henry Dice in Wilson Co Tenn on 5 Dec 1827. Betsy Ann married William Doughty on 8 Sept 1829. So unless she and Henry Dice divorced, or he passed away, it's unlikely Elizabeth is the same person as Betsy Ann who later married William Doughty.

If Betsy Ann's real name was Elizabeth is there any chance she could be the daughter of an Aaron Spring? In a settlement to his will recorded on 18 February 1824, he is listed as having a daughter named Eliza, who is listed as a minor heir.

The only information I have on Joseph Snider comes from an earlier posting on the Springs family site (look for Re: Betsy Ann Springs born 10-1-1809, date 30 Jan 2002). According to this information, Joseph married the sister of Dorcus (Anna or Anny) after her death. Apparently, he married and outlived 5 wives!! (He later married another pair of sisters, and another person). You might want to speak to Janice who was the author of this message. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Hi, I am new to the Spring line. I've just completed my DNA testing and discovered the connection. My family story starts about 1829 in Tennessee.with a woman named Charity who was of predominately Native American (Cherokee?) heritage. She married a Ned Gold in Tennesee and produced two daughters, Rebecca and Georgia. She moved to Oklahoma in 1893 to take advantage of the land promised to the relocated Cherokee nation. I am seeking the name and birthplace of Charity's mother as well as that woman's ethnicity. Maybe we can piece our stories together.
