Hi - I just pulled out some of my notes. I'm assuming your grandfather is Fred Dennis Springston? He is the brother to my grandmother Virginia Ann Springston Beilfuss. They had 6 other siblings, William Thomas Springston, Randolph D. Springston, Bertha Springston, Ralph Springston, Bert Springston and Dau Springston. I have a picture of a family reunion in Akron, OH in 1926. Unfortunately my grandmother is not in the picture but her mother and siblings and some nephews and nieces are. If you are interested, I would love to share more info and hear what you know about this family. I will look forward to hearing from you soon. My e-mail is mbcrox1@msn.com ~Mary~

I am also searching for the Springston book by Roy Lockhart. I am having a difficult time finding my Springstons. My great-grandfather was Charles Fred Springston and I believe his father was William Springston and mother was Chrysta Ann Smith (also found in the census as Christine). They lived in Spencer Co, Indiana. From there, I'm lost. Anyone with ideas?

Hi! I'm hoping you can claim a Springston I'm trying to find some info. on.

The family I'm researching is Inlow (intermarried white). I've only got one Inlow that I can't account for, and I found one by the same name listed in Emmet Starr's Notes, Vol. 3, Grant, that shows Wiliam Inlow married to an Elizabeth Springston. Shows a son William Roy Inlow.
Then it has her married to Frank Danderson with a son John Otis Danderson.
Roy Inlow, Frank Danderson and Lizzie Danderson are listed on the Dawes Roll index. I haven't been able to go anywhere to look up the census cards since I found this info. I don't have the book so I can't see who it has for her parents, etc. This info. was given to me by someone who did a lookup. Do you happen to know anything about this Elizabeth Springston and family?
My wife descends from the Springston(stone)(steen)s of Spencer County, IN
I understand that these were not related to the Southern bunch who had Cherokee blood. Wife's grandmother, Garcia Ethyl Springston, said her family was "Indians" but we never got any more detail.
Does anyone know of any connection with the Cherokee and the Northern branch of Springstons.

Springston

There is another bunch of Cherokee Springstons: The 1/2 blood Betsy Scott(daughter of Walter Scott, British agent to the Cherokees during the American Revolution) had children by at least 7 men, including Edward Springston. Their children were Jennie Springston (1 of the 2 wives of "Rich Joe" Vann) & Edley Springston, who clashed with other offspring over Betsey's estate (including William Burgess & Delilah McNair nee Vann); this case is in the Docket Book of the Cherokee Supreme Court (original records in the Tennessee State Archives).

I am descended from Betsey Scott's 1/2 sister, Sally Scott, whose mother was Sarah Hicks, sister of Charles Renatus Hicks. Sally Scott (her husband George McDonald was the uncle of Chief John Ross) was thus a first cousin of James Bigby, Thomas Wilson & presumeably George Wilson. Sometimes is seems that all Cherokees eventually turn out to be related or married to each other.

My GGG grandmother was Ruth Drumgoole who married John Foreman and later George Wilson. I have reason to believe that she may have been given the Springston name when her sister Nancy married William Springston. I think it also interesting that Nancy was also married at one time to John Forman.

I am the last survivor of the Young family in Indian Territory from George/Ruth --- their daughter married my GG Grandfather James Young, GF John Young, F - DeWitt Webster Young

I could not locate your specific "Charles", but Peter Flovius SPRINGSTON, s of Abraham, had a son Harvey, who had a child named Charles, born about 1900 that might fit your family tree.
Roy Lockhart of Parkersburg, WV, wrote a Springston Family History in 1974, which lists all know branches of Springstons. I could copy the pages showing this line, and thos pages showing general information about the Springston family if you want.
Springston Cemetery - Roane Co. WV

Descendants of William and George Gray Springston will be interested to learn that a local resident took it upon herself to hire a man to clear the cemetery twice each year for the past three years. Her name is Willadean Webb, Triplett Road, Spencer, WV 25276. Phone (304)927-3524. I plan to write her a letter of thanks, and hope that all descendants reading this will also send her a note.
The cemetery still is not as well cared for as it should be, so I have employed a local man to clean it up this fall, and I will check with Willadean to be sure his work is satisfactory. If so, I will employ him to mow it 3 or 4 times next year at a cost of $35.00 each mowing. I am also getting a quotation on a sign for the cemetery. This will be expensive and I may need some help from some of you to defray its cost.
My personal thanks to Sue Waterman for placing a tombstone in the Woodford Cemetery for Jacob Jr. and Luda Goff Springston.
