My Spurling genealogy book has no extra information on Berry son of Elias in its Tennessee chapter. I did not work as hard on the Tennessee branches because Larry Richard Spurlin had already published his book The Spurling Family Their Religion, Work and Lives, which dealt mainly with the Tennessee Spurlings. I don't find Berry or Elias in the index of my 1986 copy of that book, although Larry may have more information in his collection now.

I'm sorry I have had a lot going on recently, and I didn't expect to take this long responding to your request. I unfortunately have no more copies of my book for distribution now. The local costs of xeroxing skyrocketed so much, that I can no longer make it available at a reasonable price. I'm glad that it has proven helpful to the people that purchased it in the past, and I always kept it a nonprofit venture. Thanks for your interest. Maybe someday things will be better.

Does your Spurling book have any info on Berry (b. abt. 1810 I believe in Hardemon County), son of Elias (both born in TN? Elias is was reportedly the son of John.

I have read that Berry was killed by an outlaw in Arkansas in the first half of the 1840s.

Yes I did find a book named "The Granberry Family and Allied Families" by Edgar Francis Waterman that has a copy of bible records including Viney Spurlings parents and siblings. It also has some history of the family in Virginia. If you cannot get a copy let me know and I can make arrangements to forward it to you. I did find one online Powell history with a Richard Powell born 1785 but I'm not convinced it is the right line. I have not done much research on the Powell line in a while. Thank you for your information. It is interesting that he gave his nephews land. Do you know any more about his sisters family?

I am interested in a Richard Powell of Warren Co, GA who was a brother of Elizabeth, wife of Jonathan Paulk, giving land to her 2 sons:
Stewart County GA Deed Book, E page 39;
8/4/1835 - Richard Powell of Warren County, GA "for love and affection for my two nephews," gave Micajah and Jonathan Polk, 101 1/2 acres being in the east half of Lot #222 of the 24th District of "formerly Lee, but now Stewart
County." Witnesses, Charles Riley & W.A. May, J.P. - Recorded 8/12/1835.

Hi, I'm trying to locate information on William Rufus Spurlin, born 1833 in TN. He had a younger sister, Jane, also born in TN. I believe his father's name was James, perhaps James Berry, but I'm not sure about that.

John Spurling b 1828 and Sarah Doree were my great great grandparents on my father's side - John Spurling's son John Robert had a daughter Rose Elizabeth b 1879, who was my grandmother. She married William Edward Stopps b 1879 of Bethnal Green in 1905 and their son Albert Edward Stopps b 1908 was my father.

Thank you very much for your message, seems we are cousins. My Father Henry George Robert Spinks b.1915 d.1976 was the son of Henry Thomas Spinks b.1894 d.1957 and Jennie (Minnie) Chapman b.1890 d.1926. Her parents were Henry Chapman b.1858 and Sarah Spurling b,1859 Mile End. Sarah's parents were John Spurling b.1827 and Sarah Doree b.1828. I havn't got any further back yet with this branch of my family, but I have only just sent off for the marriage cert. of John and Sarah so I hope this will shed some more light. Hope to hear from you again, perhaps we can share info.

I've just read your posts about Jonathan Spurling and Frances Roper of Thrandeston. They are in my tree through their daughter Emily. I too have been to Thrandeston and seen the graves and to Ipswitch Record office to check the parish records where I found a number of their children. I have missed though that they had a son Samuel and would be interested to know what information you have that relates him to Jonathan and Frances.

By the way you won't find a grave for Jonathan in Thrandeston. He married again, moved up to Bolton in Lancashire England and died in the 1850's.

I would be interested in exchanging more information on this branch of the Spurling family if you wish

I too am trying to run down the family tree. My grandmother on my mother's side was Nannie Catherine Spurling her father was Joseph Spurling from Kentucky. She married Ben C. Revell from Tenn and they had my mom and her sibilings. Her siblings were; Mike Spurling, Rozier Spurling, and Ellen Spurling. I am not sure there is any connection but any info is appreciated. Her mother Joseph wife I believe was named Margreth.

Hi....thanks for getting back to me. Elizabeth Ann De Lima (nee Spurling) is my great grandmother. She married John Thomas De Lima 7 January 1874. As far as I know through info handed down by my mother to me, they had 4 children that she knew of. My Grandmother being Edith Blanche De Lima and I believe the rest were: Gladys, Bertie, Hartwell I don't know the birth dates yet of the siblings. I'm trying to concentrate on the Spurling side for the moment and then on to the De Lima side. If you have any info on this side of the family and are willing to share I would be grateful. I have actually found a few more De Limas that I think belong to Thomas and Ann and they are: Louise Adelaide born 17 Sept 1862 and Frances Mary born 4 January 1883 both christened at Tamil Nadu, India, parents: John Thomas De Lima and Elizabeth Anne. I do have a photo of Elizabeth Ann if you would like it.

I've been trying to find Samuel Spurling, son of Jonathan Spurling and Frances Roper, born Thrandeston, Suffolk, England. I ead with interest your info on him. I am connected to him through by great grandmother Elizabeth Anne Spurling. I know that he married Ann Egan and would like to know more about her and that he was in the European Veteran Army, served in India where he married Ann Egan, would love to have any info you have on him and his kin. I visited Thrandeston last year whilst back home in England, found a few gravestones of Spurlings, none on Jonathan Spurling, one of Frances Spurling and two others. How are you connected to the family.

I too am searching the Spurling family. Elizabeth Anne is also my maternal great grandmother. I was interested to see that samuel Spurling was pensioned at the Chelsea Barracks in London. I paid a visit to the village of Thrandeston in Suffolk last year when we were back home in the UK. Would love to know what info you have on him and if I can be of any help, I will be happy to do so.

I don't know if you will see this since you posted the original so long ago but Elizabeth Spurling's maiden name was Shively. On that same census page is her brother John H Shively. After James W Spurley died she married a man named Newton.

For 25 years I have tried to find information on the birth of William Rufus Spurlin, b. Mar.1833, in Tennessee.

His brother (Frank Spurlin, ARK) lists James as his father's first name, but that is all I've been able to determine.

Looking for any info about this lady. She was from Taylor Co., Ky and married George Marples in 1899 in Taylor Co., at the age of 19, he was 28 and from Casey Co., Ky. Believe to be my g-grandparents. With the info that I already have, her age matches. Minnie was born in 1880 and died in 1970. Can't find anything on George.
