John P. SQUIRE Packing Co., Cambridge, MA, 1900's
Hello. While looking at an old street map ~1900 of Cambridge, MA, I was reminded about the John P. SQUIRE Packing Company. (Technically, pork-packing company.)
John P. SQUIRE seems to have been a very rich, very important person in the 1850 to 1900 timeframe in MA, and, yet, I've just spent a half-hour searching the "net" for information on his life, and have been basically unsuccessful.
I did find out he was probably born in Wethersfield, VT, ~1819. He must have come down to the Boston area as a young man, probably a few years after he married. I found mention of him owning a large, expensive property on "Beacon Hill" in Boston in the 1840's. But, the 1880 Census has him living in Arlington, MA.
This census report shows him with his wife, Katherine, and 6 teen-age children. (I don't know how many children he and his wife had.) Also in the home were possible relatives (in-laws?) and 3 servants. I would assume he had a large home in Arlington.
I think John died in the 1890's, so he lived a long life, and had many children, and, yet, I don't see that anyone is researching him ! I didn't find him mentioned at the LDS web site, and he is not mentioned on this Board, etc.
I am not related to this man, but I have become very curious about him !
