Steve,
We may be cousins of sort. I have seen a listing of 13 generations of Squires. It starts with Jonathans father and goes through Loudon County VA, Bedford VA, parts of WVA, Linn IO, Indianna and for my side Conway SC. My Great grandmother was a Squires. Her youngest daughter, Leola or Lee just passed away at age 99.

Any of this sound familiar?

Richard

I had my husband's Squyars DNA tested and wanted to compare. I have traced this family to a Jonas Squires b. 1705 first found in Hyde County, NC. Would it be possible to compare and see if there is a match. It would at least help me to determine if this is the same family or not.

I was DNA tested through Ancestry.com several months ago (but I am not sure what to do with the DNA information).
On the 1920 census there was an Otis Squires with wife Stella in Marion County, Florida. It states on the census he was born 1868 in WV. The children listed at this time ( 1920 ) were: Mabel, Alvin, Helen and Doris. Do you think this is your family? Can you provide more info on Otis, perhaps, year born, died, place of birth and death?

Also found this information a while ago. Taking it with a grain of salt because having seen the birth records in Schroon, NY. Alberto Squires had no middle name or initial. To make gathering information on the Squires more confusing is that William and Albert were very commonly used names for male children.
To clear up a piece of information, Alberto never lived with his son Wilson in MA.
George and Wilson were put in an orphanage in Albany, NY. They ran away and came to Stephentoen, NY. and Stockbridge, MA. area to work as servants and farm laborers.
Albert Daniel Squires was the only child of Alberto and Sarah to go to the new marriage of Sarah and Alfred Gregory.

I think I may have traced the Huntington's or at least the squires line to 1630 ish- in my data for HD it was brough over by immigrants from Bures, England. (if you go to www.bures-online.co.uk/huntington.htm the town's website has info on it about the disease and how it is known to be the home of the disease that spread to the us)

I find (no causes of death yet just using other trees to connect the dots until I got a hit on Robert Seeley who sailed on the Winthrop Fleet in 1630 (thats the fleet mentioned in numerous HD literature). It may not be him...but I am close. I need to now go back and fill in data...There are a lot of member stories on this generation. We'll see. But if it is him or the last name, it was.... (going backwards by parent)
Albert Squires 1858-1920
William Squires (1804)
Darius Squires (1776-1835)
Jonathan Squires (1739-1834)
Nathanial Squires (1690-1783)
Mary Seeley (1664-1700)
Nathaniel Seeley (1627-1675)
Robert Seeley (1602-1668)

Again, this is a hit on the boat he came over in, with other known surnames... stay tuned...

I got so sick of being stuck on George Monroe and Albert and Sarah I went BACKWARDS!
Please add me to your list. I connect to this line at Jonathan. Our common ancestor is Nathaniel b. 1690. My line goes through his oldest son, Nathaniel. I would greatly appreciate sharing some information as you have a little more on the oldest generations.
Nora

I'd say you've nailed it.

Just one question - There are obviously a bunch of Robbins' out in Ohio and Western PA who are descended from Ella May Squires' second family. Does it make sense to try to find a current descendant and give them a heads-up if they don't already know about the possibility of the HD gene?

I just updated Laura as well but William Squires is also listed in the same Essex County home in 1880 (name William Squares), diagnosed with "softening of the brain".

Also, there's a very suspiscious-looking record in 1910 for a "Bert F Squires", who is in the Danamora State Hospital in Clinton County, NY. The only problem is that his age is given as 29. I'd bet that this is Alberto Squires, William's son. Can't find him in 1900, though.

Max
