This is both a query and a mini-biographay.
My mother is Dorothy Willene Squyres Hall Seymoure'. She is the daughter of William Marcus Squyres and Jewel Nipper Squyres (both deceased), granddaughter of Charles Wayman Squyres and Lena Baggett Squyres (both deceased). My mother's sister is Billie Squyres (deceased. At the time of their deaths they all lived in Lawton, Oklahoma. My mother has one brother, James Floyd Squyres (Sonny) and vurrently lives in Lawton Oklahoma. I have many cousins from my Aunit Billie's family who still live in Lawton, Oklahoma. But my mother's family did not start out in Oklahoma, at least I know she was born in Wellington, Texas and she tells me that since my grandfather and greatgrandfather Squyres were both Baptist ministers, they moved from time to time within Texas, in Oklahoma, back to Texas, etc. My mother is the only child from her immediate family that has not ended up in Lawton, Oklahoma. She married Finis Constantine Hall, who was born in Honey Grove, Texas, a career military serviceman. They traveled all over the states as well as over seas, including Izmir, Turkey, and he eventually retired from the Air Force and moved to El Paso, Texas, where I then started 3rd grade. My father died on 11/23/7966 and is buried at the Fort Bliss Military Cemetary in El Paso, Texas. My mother chose to remain in El Paso, TX with me (Gina Elaine Hall Fowler) and my little brother Robbie instead of moving to be with her mother and sister in Lawton. My mother remarried about 5 years after my father's death, to Charles Seymoure', originally of Illinois. They divorced about 8 years ago. She now lives in Chaparral, New Mexico in the country, 12 miles across the State line (Texas/New Mexico) and El Paso, Texas.
My mother mentioned on the telephone to me the other night that she had heard of your books and was wanting to get in touch with Fred. She said she had the telephone number at one time, but lost it. She would like to acquire the Squyres with a Y books.
My mother told me her descendants/family came to America from Ireland because there was constant fighting in Ireland over the Catholic and Protestant religions. When they arrived in America, they changed the spelling of their last name to Squyres, from Squires. Squyres with a Y.

My name is Gina Elaine Hall Fowler. I spoke with mother, Dorothy Willene Squyres Hall on the phone last night about my interest in looking into our genealogy. I got a lot of information from her and my own Bible. We spoke again today, and she mentioned that she knew of Fred Squyres who had books on the Squyres family. She once had his phone number and wanted to call him about the books but no longer had the number. I have been researching on the internet during the last week or so, which also prompted me to call her about some family history my Grandmother Sybil Hall had written down about my father' side of the family, as I am interested in researching both. After talking with my mother, I found your site - the Squyres Books (Fred) and decided to leave this message and some information you may or may not have already, and thinking perhaps I could also glean some information from you and on this site in my endeavor. It would be interesting to find that perhaps my family history is part of yours.
My mother is Dorothy Willene Squyres, born to William Marcus Squyres and Jewel Nipper in Wellington TX; Jewel the daughter of James Floyd Nipper and Carrie White. Jewel Nipper also had a brother named Floyd. Father of William Marcus Squyres: Charles Wayman Squyres (CW) and mother Lena Baggett. Charles Wayman Squyres and his son William Marcus Squyres both Baptist ministers, traveled within Texas and Oklahoma with their ministries. My mother was named after the midwife who helped deliver her (Dorothy) and her father ("Willene" for William). Billie Squyres (deceased and buried in Lawton Oklahome, along with William Marcus Squyres, and Jewel Nipper Squyres) is Willene's younger sister; and James Floyd Squyres (Sonny) is her younger brother. My mother and my Uncle Sonny (James Floyd Squyres) are both still living. William Marcus Squyres and Jewel Nipper Squyres also raised a young boy, whose name was Don. Willene lives in Chaparral, New Mexico, and Sonny lives in Lawton, Oklahoma. My Greatgrandfather Squyres, Charles Wayman Squyres lived into his late 90s, lived at that time in Lawton, Oklahoma and still rode his bicycle all over town. These Squyres'family decendants came from Ireland to US, changing their name from Squires to Squyres. My mother, Willene married Finis Constantine Hall who was born in Honey Grove, TX, son of Constantine Edmund Hall and Mary Sybil Leivesy (sp?) Hall. The wild west outlaw Younger Brothers were Sybil's cousins, ie. James Younger. My father had two sisters, Opal Hall Thomas (married to Joe Thomas) five children, Joe Kirk, Edmund D, Cina, Carla, and Lisetta; and Florence Hall Robinson (married to Arthur Robinson, living in Hereford, TX. They had one daughter, Connie Tom Robinson, husband named David) and 3 grand daughters. Finis Constantine Hall also had a younger brother, Robert Hall who died at the age of 18 of a heart attack playing basket ball. Finis Constantine Hall and Dorothy Willene Squyres Hall had 4 children: My oldest brothers, Finis Keith Hall, Macy Dwight Hall, daughter, Gina Elaine Hall Fowler (me) and youngest brother,Robert William Hall. Finis Constantine Hall died 11/23/1966 at the age 52 of a heart attack and is buried at Ft. Bliss Military Cemetary in El Paso, Texas. He was career military, US Air Force. He also served in the Army prior when WWII began. After that, joined that Air Force. Finis Keith Hall married Sally Fox Hall in El Paso, TX, one daughter, Michelle Hall, with her one son, Zachary Pfastadt, grandson, all living in Odessa Texas. Dwight, married and divorced twice, no natural children, did have two step daughters from 1st marriage, lives in Las Vegas Nevada. Daughter Gina Elaine Hall Fowler married Randall Terry Fowler of Austin TX 05/23/80), two daughters, Holly Marisa Fowler (12/13/80) and Megan Rene' Fowler (08/19/82). Holly Marisa Fowler married Scott Michael Barentine of Edmond, Oklahoma 11/05/2006, two sons, Jack Arlo Barentine born 02/13/2007, and Hayden Argos Barentine born 11/12/2008; all living in Austin, Texas. My little brother Robert William Hall married Regina, and have two sons and a daughter; Cody, Paige and Shane. They live in Krum, Texas.

Was wondering what I could do about getting any copies of the book 'The Squyres With A 'Y'...my dad had one and used it for going back thru our family, and helped 'Red' make some corrections on a few of his relatives, etc., but...when my dad passed away in 1997 I have not been able to find the book he had. Very disappointed.
Is there any way tp purchase another one, and I know there was a 'second' one in the works...was it ever finsihed?
Thanks...
George William Squyres Jr.
San Antonio

Horatio (Oratio) Newman and Martha Ann Presnell Hobbs.

His son Russell Moody Squyres had a dau b. 3/19/1869 named Sarah Jane.

Lewis and descendants were in Ouachita Parish, LA and then went to Lavaca Co. TX. Probably your Sarah Jane is in this line. I don't have complete information on these folks, but hope this will get you started.

We have moved several times, my husband is in very poor health and I have just recently started my research back.

I have all the info on the children of James and Mary Josephine Squyres children, as I have the family Bible. Also, I knew most of them.

If I haven't responded to you, I am terribly sorry.
Dear Nancy, just read your offer to help with books. I visited your parents two summers ago, with my German husband, while looking for information on IRADELLA SQUYRES CARLEY POWERS. She was my paternal grandmother - and in 1912 committed a cold blooded murder! your parents were very helpful, and it even turned out that your father was probably a guard at the French prison camp where my father-in-law was incarcerated!
1) are there any more copies of vol 1?
2) Your parents have a picture of Della, quite lovely, that I had never seen. They wanted to copy it for me but I never received it. It is the only existing photo of her young.
3) Please say hello for me, the pecan pie was simply wonderful and my novel about the murder is coming along - for all you Squyres fans!!!
Jacalyn Carley

Maxine, My Squyres line William Squyres (Edgefield SC)
starts in 1800 census with his age as 45ish. The whole family
at some time migrated to Louisana. I have them in two
location ending in Catahoula Parrish. The the family
moved to Texas and after the Civil War which most were
involved in my line moved to Arkansas ( Indian Territory)
My Great GReat Grandfather went to IT in Oklahoma and we are still
here, what's left of us. I'd love to share information.
I have as yet been unable to go further back than 1800 for
documentation. I did however find a William Squyres wife
jane Humphress in Aphington, Devon England. I have very complet
record on the Squyres family I'd love to share.

According to family lore, the Zachary Taylor in question is the president. I remember finding a picture of him in my grandmother's picture album when I was a little guy. A note was printed on the back saying he was kin somehow. I don't remember the note's exact wording. However, the story was confirmed by a 96 year old aunt several years ago. I have yet to find confirmation of this, though.

Yes, it is titles "Squyres" with a "Y" and it is authored by Mr. Fred Squyres (and his late wife Ruby) I have contacted him and he doesn't have any left. They were published in 1982. I have contacted many sources and there are no plans to publish more. I wondered if some distant relatives had any they didn't want anymore. There are copies in the library at Breckenridge Tx and Eastland, and Ranger libraries.

I've not looked at them in years.. I don't think they'd want to part with either, but if there are certain pages you're looking for, I should be able to get copies of those made.

My mother's mother is Elaine Squyres, wife of the late Clifford Squyres.

--Randy Woolley
