I am sorry it has taken so long to post this reply. Francois St. Amant was the son of Dominique Daspit de St. Amant, the younger son of Jean Francois Daspit de St Amant and Marie Francoise Du Buisson. The family of Dominique often dropped the Daspit name and used St. Amant. This was to distinguish them from the descendants of Dominique's elder brother Jean Pierre Daspit de St. Amand. According to all sources the family has one progenitor: Jean Francois Daspit de St. Amand who died at Natchez in 1728.
