Hello Shirley,
Nice to hear from you again, after so long. I'm also still seeking the Grandparent's of William Rush Staggs, and William & Lucinda Garner, her father was John Garner, he was on the 1850 Census of Jefferson, or Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama. I have searched for him, but have'nt found nothing so far. William Staggs married Lucinda Garner, but have seen her last name as Franklin? Maybe she was married to a Franklin, before Wm. Staggs. Who know's? I have reason to beleave William Staggs born 1823, was related to Williamson Staggs, who was born 1765, and died 1851 in Tennessee. Some claim he married Mary Willoughby abt. 1784 in S. C.! Their also was a William Willoughby Staggs born abt. 1806 in S.C., died in 1897, in Walker Co., Alabama. Williamson had son's named Ezekiel, Zachariah, John William, Samuel, Obadiah, and William Staggs. All of them lived in Jefferson Co., Alabama in the early 1820's, & 1830's, before moving to Walker Co.,Alabama, and to Arkansas. I have made a file on their descendant's, if you want I could send you a attachment. I'm sorry to hear about your father passing away. How is your mother doing? Is she still working on the Staggs line.
William G. Latham Jr.
Seeking info. about the Alma Pearl Staggs, who was the daughter of William Rush "Bill" Staggs. William Rush (Bill) Staggs was born 1847, the son of William & Lucinda (Garner) Staggs! I have'nt found the parent's of this William Staggs, who was born abt. 1823, in Jefferson Co., Alabama. But, am pretty sure he was descend'ed from John Williamson Staggs, born 1765 in South Carolina, and died June 1851 in Bedford Co., Tennessee. Williamson was the father of 9 known children..! Several of them lived in Wayne, & Franklin Co., Tennessee, before moving south into Jefferson, & Walker Co., Alabama. I would like to share my Staggs families with you.
William G. I dont know if this helps you at all but i know there are quite a few staggs burried there. My grandfather's name is Warren Coy Staggs. Again not sure if there is any close relation. Its funny that you brought up the name wiley because we named our dog wiley after him. Do you pronounce it as "willy" or as "whi-ley"?

See the attached as earliest census record I have of the Staggs line.
Yes, Dudley Duell was his son. He didn't have any children. I have spoken to the person who posted the d/c,I think I have more info than they do. I can not find the death cert for Dudley P, it was destroyed. They don't have a record at the Kentucky State Archives either. I contacted the person who used to be in charge of the graveyard, also a relative of Dudley P Staggs. She is older now, and has given the duty to someone else. Of which no one seems to know who, or where any of the records are. I will keep searching, I have contacted several family members, but no one seems to know much else. Thank you for trying t help me, I do appreciate it. Shane

Dudley P Staggs was the son of James and Mary Staggs. They were both from TN. (Warren County). We know that James was born in 1793, Mary in 1795. We have never found any more information for them. I know that Dudley was born in TN in 1832. He died between 1900-1907 in Bonnieville, KY. We have found out a lot of info on his brothers, nothing on his sister, The records in Bonnieville were destroyed. I've checked newspapers, obits, the Historical Society. His gravestone has no dates on it. We know he was married to Jane O Brown first, then Cindy Ella Bryant. He has a lot of family in Bonnieville, Ky, and some in Bedford, IN. I would like to know how he died, when he died, and more importantly, see a picture of him. I have been working on this for 2 years, maybe not long in genealogy years, but it seems like forever. I was told he was an Indian, with real long legs, and long hair. Most of his distant family say that, but they haven't seen a picture of him either. Just family stories. Who is in your line? Maybe I have seen them in my search? Dudley was also a Confederate soldier in 4th Murrays Calvary. We know where he's been, but have no record of his death. Thanks for any help you can give. There was also a large group of Staggs in Wayne County, TN. I have seen the name while doing my own research, just can't remember who he was connected to.

I searched Ancestry.com, but couldn't find anything you already don't know. I did find a death certificate for a Dudley Duell Staggs. He died in 1925, Bonneville,Hart, KY.
He was single. The d/c shows his parents were Dudley and Ellen Bryant. He is buried in Concord Cemetery.
Since you know the cemetery that Dudley P. is buried in, why not contact the cemetery to see if they have a file on him. Most cemeteries have buriel records.
Also, try finding his death certificate. It will show the cause of his death and other valuable information.

I have a copy of Dudley Duell's d/c. If you would like to have it, I can send it to you.

The name of the person who gave his death information is given, so you might see if you can find one of her children to see if they could provide family information.

Shane I have one more suggestion. Since Dudley P. was born in 1832, he may have served in the Civil War. Possible that there is a pension record for him.
The one that would probably be more valuable to you would be his widows file. That shoud contain information about when and where he died as well as other information.
I found everything from when, where, and surviving childrens names in one of my records.

If the cemetery is not an active one, then try to find the cemetery records at the court house, or the library. Worth a try. I located some of mine by contacting the court clerk.
I found a Pedigree Resource File located on familysearch.org. It was submitted by a Neil Brandon.
The information to lcate it is: Compact Disc #140 Pin #182466. You will need to order that CD in order to get the complete file.

Sorry, I couldn't have been more helpful.

Good luck with your research.
