Stall Family Bible

Kind of a long shot:

Regarding John Stall (b 1876 Nebraska), wife Mamie (McGartney), and children Regina and Harry. Residences in BC, Washington and finally California. Years 1876-1950's. Come from a long line of Stall's quite well documented here on Ancestry.

I have heard of the existence of a Stall family bible. Any chance anyone has a copy of it?

I'm sorry but I don't have any info on Willard and Annie's parents. If you run across some I would love to have it and if I get any I will share as well. Willard and Annie were my great grandparents but that is as far back as I've gotten so far. It's a small world. My dad grew up in Milford and I grew up just outside of Bowling Green. I am a Southworth, which group of us are you related to?

Scott

Jaremiah Stall

I am looking for information on Jaremiah Stall. I believe he migrated to Ohio in the early 1800's. He married Elizabeth Paxton in 1843 in Richland County, Ohio(part of Morrow County now). They had a son James Stall in 1845. I do not know if their were other children. James is shown in the 1850 census living with his grand parents John and Elizabeth Paxton in N. Bloomfield Township, Morrow County, Ohio. I do not know what happened to Jaremiah and Elizabeth. I am trying to trace the Morrow County Stall's back to their ancestors in Pa.

I have information on the Stall's in Morrow, Richland, and Crawford Counties, Ohio that are decendants of James.

Ernie Stall
ehstall@wcoil.com

Mr. and Mrs. Stall and little son killed in train accident

Appears in The Terrell Star, 21 May 1881, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas

Accident and Death

A report reached this place on Wednesday last which was confirmed in a Waco special to the News, of the 9th inst. that W. D. Washburne, engineer and superintendent of the Missouri Pacific road, who was in Temple on Monday last, locating depot grounds for his road met with a fatal accident near Waco. The special states that Maj. Washburne and Mr. and Mrs. Stall were killed a few miles south of Waco while coming to the city on a hand car from the front. This is a most distressing accident and in Mr. Washburne’s death the road loses one of its most efficient officers.

Later – The following additional account of this lamentable accident is taken from a News special of Thursday. Maj. W. D. Washburne, superintendent of construction, with his special car, was on an inspecting tour, and had stopped at the last switch on the road. While there the engine with train had returned this way two miles for water. It remained some time and Maj. Washburne called for a hand car to carry himself and party to their car. He took the seat in front, Mr. J. W. Painter at his side, Mr. W. M. Stall, who was superintendent for M. S. Coleman & Co. track contractors of Chicago was seated on the rear of the car with his wife and little son at his side. Negroes occupied the center and propelled the car. They had not gone a quarter of a mile when Mr. Painter saw a headlight turning a curve when he signaled the approaching train to stop and ordered the negroes to reverse the hand car. The had hardly turned when Mr. Painter saw the first flat car right upon them, when he jumped to the ground followed by the negroes, Major Washburne leaving at the opposite side. When the train stopped Major Washburne was found senseless with one arm cut off and otherwise bruised, he having been run over by one car. Mrs. Stall was crushed to death, twelve cars having passed over her. Mr. Stall was on the opposite side mangled and literally cut to pieces so, that he could not be recognized. George the little boy, was found on the track, under the cars with his head crushed in. He lived one hour. The remains of Mr. Stall and family were gathered and sent on tonight’s train to New Jersey, their home. Major Washburne was not dead when first found. He was placed on a car and brought to Waco for medical aid, but no relief could be given him, and he died this morning at 5 o’clock. He had the reputation of being one of the finest railroad men in the country; and his useful position at the age of 30, and getting a salary of $10,000 a year. His remains were placed in a special car today but news reached here tonight that the car jumped the track and had not reached the second station. It is not known whether any damage ensued or not.
Stall 1700s -1850s Pa to Ohio-would like your input

I am putting this out there in hopes that I will hear from some of you that are researching this Stall family . I have no proof and am only wondering if I am even remotely on the right track or need to change course. Please let me know on this site if you have anything to add or set me straight.
In 1751-1752 tax records of Cumberland, Co. Pa is one male Stall; Henry Stall
In 1785 tax record Franklin Co, Pa is Henry Stall
(Franklin was formed from Cumberland in 1784)
IN 1782 Henry Stall of Carlisle,Cumberland Co, Pa was appointed overseer of the poor.

1790 census of Cumberland and Franklin Counties...
Abraham Stall --Cumberland Co
John Stall--Cumberland Co
James Stall --Franklin Co
Joseph Stall--Franklin
Pheby Stall--Franklin
Andrew Stall--Franklin
Jacob Stall --Franklin

My question-- is Henry Stall the father of the 1790 census listings. Any one have any ideas. Is Pheby a sister-in-law to the males.
I think James is my ancestor, married to Anna Marie Simons. He was b. 1761 in Cumberland Co.Pa. 1802 he moved on to Boardman, Trumbull Co, Ohio.

Joseph Stall. I find a Joseph b. ca 1766 in Cumberland.
In 1850 Mahoning Co, Ohio is a Joseph Stall age 84 with a John Stall age 60 next door. Is this the same Joseph as in
1790 census.

I have found two potential Abrahams Stall/Stahl. One dies in Toboyne , Cumberland Co, Pa in 23 June 1808. His will list daughter
Margaret Stall, four sons, Peter, John, Abraham, and William, two youngest minors.
Son-in-laws, Peter Salsbury and George Geese.
witnesses, John Wack, Daniel Bloom
and
Abraham Stall b. 1765 in Pa
d. in White Eyes, Coshocton, Ohio
In 1850 census in Crawford, Coshocton, Ohio
a son William b. 1791.
Can anyone clarify this for me.

Jacob Stall b. ca 1762
1800 census he is in Green Castle, Franklin Co, Pa
1810 census he is in Fannet , Franklin Co,Pa
1820 census he is in Green , Franklin Co, Pa.
Next door to Jacob in 1800 is Abraham and Philip

No info on Andrew, John

If anyone has any insight or can help me include or discard any of these or other info you may have on the Stalls, I would appreciate hearing. Perhaps a joint effort of Stall researchers may find some answers.

Joel Wolfe and Martha Stall

I was in East Hill Cemetery in Rush County, Indiana and was photographing headstones for my Wolf(e)line and came across Joel Wolfe and Martha Stall who do NOT appear to be part of my line. I thought if anyone was researching this line I could email them the photos. It appears that Joel Wolfe (1809 - 1862) was the son of Conrad "Coon" Wolf and Sarah Miller. Martha was born 1809 possibly to a Edward Stall in Maryland. She died in 1898. I have photographs of the headstones of their children as well. Please reply here if you would like copies or you can email me at sbwaggoner@insightbb.com.

John Stall b. Nehawka, NE

Nebraska City News
Friday, September 21, 1917

KILLED IN MONTANA
John Stall, of Nehawka, Meets Death in an Explosion
From Tuesday’s Daily

A few days ago telegrams were received here stating that John STALL had been dangerously injured while at work in Montana and that his recovery was impossible. It seems that a gasoline tank was brought into the shop where he was working and he started to do some welding, when there was an explosion, one portion of Mr. Stall’s head being blown away, It was thought that the tank was entirely free from gasoline but there was enough there to cause an explosion.
John Stall was born and grew to manhood near Nehawka, and for some time was working in this city, leaving here a few months ago for the west. He is survived by his parents, and brothers, Henry and Fred, both of this city, and Herman.
The funeral services were held today at Nehawka, those attending from this city were Henry STALL and wife, Mrs. BURBANK, Mrs. J.W. STANLEY, and Mrs. DULIN.
There is an inscription that indicates Hattie married a Hutchinson and Mattie married a Strong. If this is your family, please email me privately. I am only asking for cost of photo and postage. He was taken in by a family named Stall and given their name, as his name was unknown. He may have had a brother. David first lived in PA then Ohio, IN and KS. He married Julia Ann Ritter.
Forgot to mention about the catholic records. You would have to write to the New Orleans archdiocese for this information (there is a fee). Look for their website on the internet. I believe they have a special form you can use.

I think the website is www.catholic.org/archives

New Orleans had early birth death and marriage records. The catholic church also kept excellent records.

For orleans parish, 2 places where the records can be found are the New Orleans main library downtown and at the state archives in Baton Rouge (on Essen Lane). The indexes, which lead to the original document (Microfiche) can be found at good genealogical libraries around the state. For example, the main libraries on the east and west banks of jefferson parish have the indexes. Of course, you would still have to go to Baton Rouge or the New Orleans downtown library for the document. I recommend going to Baton Rouge as their records are usually in better condition.

I am involved in identifying the Stall/ Stahl ancestry of my family in SW PA.

We are really having a hard time with this surname!

I wonder if any of these sound familar:

In Greene County, PA: 1850 census:

Rachel Stall, mother of (HoH) with Cassandra Stall, 13 yrs.

Phillip Stahl (HoH) & 21 yr. old daughter Cassie at home.
________
The 13 yr old Cassandra grew up and married Samuel Stahl who went West, was missing and understood to have died(?). She re-married; to Jonas Chess who died at War.
Samuel returned! They re-marry and they live out their lives.
In all Samuel and Cassie had 4 children:

Abraham b. 1852
Sarah 1854
**
Irvin 1871
samuel C. 1876

**She and Jonas had a set of twins and only one survived.

We have figured her birth would have been c. 1836/7.
A source we have found has provided that her parents were George and Rachel Henderson Stahl.

Have you found that Stall and Stahl is two different names or one? It seems to be used inter-changeably---which is a pain, but....

Thanks so much!

Death records were not kept prior to 1904 so you would most likely have to locate the burial if she was buried in Lancaster County, keep in mind that there may not have been a headstone. I suggest you visit the Nebraska State Historical Society web site to see how they can help. Keep in mind that they do not do research for you and any search of the records/newspapers that they have require payment in advance.

There are 3 STALL buried in the Wyuka Cemetery but no Sally according to their online database.

Stall, Anthony Earl Sec-37 Lot-434 Sp-5 June 14, 1882 February 14, 1962
Stall, Lillian L.
Looking for information on my great great great grandfather Samuel Stahl/Stall. Lived in Greene County, PA. date of birth and death unknown but it would have been in the 1800's, as his Son Abraham Stahl/Stall (my great great grandfather) was born 4-17-1852. Samuel married a Cassandra Stall who was the widow of Jonas Chess. But she was still married to Chess in 1864 , so who is the mother of Abraham, a different Cassandra, or what. I know the Chess part has to be correct as A George Chess is listed as a pallbearer for Abrahma. And who does Cassandra Stall Chess belong to family wise. WHo were Samuels" parents? I know that Abraham married Laura Maria Adams, dau. of Denton Adams and Nancy Wilson. Any one know anything they can help me out on This. Thanks Alice Sarapa

I am getting info from my older sister as the family did not visit and talk as much when I came along so much later than the other children in the family. She tells me there were quite a few Stall brothers and I vaguely remember my mother saying two of them married Kirkwood girls. My grandmother was married to Martin. The whole family lived in and around Bright, Harrison IN and a good many of those people established homes in and around Cleves OH. I am a new pc user and have just begun to get curious about family research. I have no idea who the girls parents were but I am going to the cemetary in the spring to check death records. I live outside the Cincinnati city limits but close enough to use a city post office zip. Libby's name was Elizabeth Edna, my mom, was the oldest daughter of Sarah Kirkwood Stall. There were four girls and one boy. As I understand it, Rhoda lived in Cleves also. Do you have any info about the parents of the Stall brothers and the Kirkwood family? I think the past is interesting. It's good to hear from you. Pix are great. I only have a few and I'm at the beginning of my searches.
Apears you have three of my missing uncles. John Stall would have been born about 1817 and married Elizabeth Harger who died somewhere around the 1890's. Anthony I didn't know where he went after his first wife died around 1875. He just disapears but evidently he went to Neb. Samuel Stall later moved to Oklahoma if this is the correct family. He was still alive in 1922 when his sister Elizabeth died. Others in the family include Daniel Stall, Susan Stall Kimble, Lucinda Stall Ax, Elizabeth Stall Swigert,Catherine Stall Hay (Homer,Illinois), David who was in California. If this connects, lets share info. These Stalls were from Pa. and came to Coshocton County, Ohio about 1816. All were children of William and Susanna Firebaugh Stall/Stahl. i have some Neb. pictures in the family alblum but none are named except for David Stall, born 1891 and Robert Stall, have his Civil War picture with his Sharp's rifle. Also one of him and his second wife. This Robert died near Bennett, Neb. around 1909.Contact me at rockypointfarms@tusco.net.
