Thank You Again Barbra for the information and for answering my query.
I found this old post that lived in the general vicinity.
I suspect the E. C. is possibly related to JOHN ELMER ELSWORTH STAMBAUGH So his name is possibly either Elmer or Elsworth Geeze ............... such a puzzle. I guess he could have went by his middle name what ever that is or moved out of SD.?
Thank You
Best regards
Kurt

Looking for any additional information on David Stambaugh who died on his farm in Jones County Iowa. Also for any information on Linn or Jones County Stambaugh’s. Here is what I do have.
..........................6 DAVID (possibly SOLOMON) STAMBAUGH before

+ ELIZABETH ??/?? - before

3) Migrated with father (JACOB 1775-1851) to Butler County Ohio in 1835. It seems likely that he went to Schuyler County Illinois with his brothers Samuel and John in 1839 and then on to Iowa.
4) Marrige to Elizabeth probally before 1838 in Ohio.
5) DAVID STAMBAUGH is listed in the 1840 Linn County, Iowa census as having the following persons living in his household: UNNAMED FEMALE 20 -30, UNNAMED MALE less than 5 years old and UNNAMED FEMALE less than 5 years old
6) DAVID STAMBAUGH age 36 is listed in the 1850 Linn County, Iowa census as having the following persons living in his household: JAMES STAMBAUGH age 11, NAOMI ELISABETH STAMBAUGH age 10, CHRISTIANA OR CHRISTISN age 08 and MIRANDA STAMBAUGH age 06

12) Between 1840 and 1885 DAVID STAMBAUGH is listed as DAVID STAMBAUGH, DAVID STAMBO, DAVID STAMBOUGH and DAVID STAMBAU. The children remain constant through out these years so I am confident they are one and the same person. Also in 1850 there is a NAOMI E. STAMBAUGH age 10 and in 1856 a ELISABETH STAMBAUGH age 16. I am likewise confident they are one and the same person.
13) DAVID STAMBAUGH married SOPHIA BOYCE, January 4, 1855, Linn County, Iowa
(Thomas G. Lockhart, J.P.) 14) On Aug 22, 1892 DAVID STAMBAUGH and SOPHIA STAMBAUGH bought land in Jones County, Iowa. This information taken from book # 61 ( deed records ) Pg. 499.
The land is described as the NE quarter of SE quarter & the SE quarter of the SE quarter and the south half of SE quarter of the NE quarter and “10" acres of the north side of SE quarter of SW quarter of section 10 and 15. All in section 15 except for the 10 acres in section 10, township ”83" range 4 W of the 5th PM. Containing 123 acres more or less.
This land went from David to Sophia then back to David. He then sold it to John E.E. and Clara. The record book states “ I David Stambaugh a single person of Jones County State of Iowa in consideration of the sum of “love and affection and
contract of support”
where the amount of the sale would normally be. The book ( Deed record
book 67 Pg. 504 ) shows that later John E. E. sold the land on l4, July
1899 to John B. Murfield for $6580.00
subject to two mortgages. One to Ed Pect for &2180.00 and one to Mary J
Dale for $575.00
and the right of crops remaining with J.E. Stambaugh until harvest on Sept.
1st 1899.
15) Married twice
16) Grave marker says 1808 - 1893 These dates do not match census
information
17) Center Point Iowa Cemetery records say died 03/31/1893 age 84 yrs 9 mo
Note. His first 26 years are a complete mystery to me. This is the puzzle I am trying to put together. Stories passed through the generations are that David Stambaugh came to Iowa from somewhere in the eastern United States. Stories told by Glen Sylvester Stambaugh tell of David and three brothers leaving the east and heading to the gold rush. However, the story goes that David met a young lady and forgot about the gold rush.
Note. My father CARROLL EDWARD STAMBAUGH has seen a copy of the marriage
certificate showing date, place and official.
