John Stamps (1798-1867) from KY or VA

Looking for info on John Stamps (1798-1867) I believe he is from Kentucky but he may be from Virginia as he named a town "Mount Vernon" in Texas after the birthplace of our 1st President. He settled in Washington County, Texas and was involved in Texas Gov't at that time (mid-1800's?). I can look for more information on him if anyone needs it...I just need to track him back as he is the furthest I have gone (4-Great's Grandfather). My father is Jack Stamps Campbell (b. Washington Co., 1949), brother JSC, Jr. and Nephew, Taylor Stamps Campbell - all now live in Texas.

Any info is appreciated - I think he may have descended from Dr. Timothy Stamps??? Thanks!
I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

I'm looking for information on Stamps and Matthews families in early Fauquier Co, VA. My ancestor is Octavia Stamps Matthews, b. 22 Apr 1814 in Fauquier Co, VA. I have no information on her parents. She married Thomas Horsley Carr in Sumner County, TN 26 Dec 1836.

In looking at Sumner Co, TN marriage and tax records of that period, there are several Stamps and Matthews listed and I'm wondering if they are related and if they came from VA.

Any help would be appreciated.

Obit. Floyd D. Stamps

San Diego Union-Tribune on 1/8/2004
STAMPS, FLOYD D. My father was born on November 24, 1913 at home in Sherman, Texas. His life followed the path of most men who lived through the depression and World War II. He met my mother, Charlotte Berger Stamps, who predeceased him in 1997, during the war. He was ill, she was an Army nurse, and it was love at first sight. He was an automobile dealer in Cleveland, Ohio for most of his career. When he retired in 1979 he and my mother moved to San Diego to be closer to their family. He was simply the sweetest man who ever lived. He died peacefully on December 30th just before midnight. He leaves two children, Penny (Chuck) Masters and Robert Stamps; one grandchild, Samantha (Pete) Gianulis and their children Dillon, Alexander and Zoe. He also leaves two brothers, Bill and Pat Gunter, as well as other family members and many friends. Services have been held. Our lives will never be the same, because the man who taught us honor, integrity, kindness and love is gone. Rest in peace, Daddy. We love you. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sharp Hospice Care Fund, Grossmont Hospital Foundation, PO Box 158, La Mesa, Calif. 91944 or the charity of your choice.

CATHERINE STAMP(S) JASPER CREEL

Jasper CREEL m. Catherine STAMP November 12, 1864 in Bibb Co., Al.

1870 Census lists Catherine as 26 and 1880 Census lists her as 35 so she was born around 1844-1845.

Jasper's brother John Creel m. Nancy Stamps d/o Thomas Stamps and Elizabeth Creel. John Creel and Nancy Stamps were 1st cousins.

I am trying to connect Catherine to this Stamps family. I suspect she is possibly a child of Henry Stamps (brother of Nancy Stamps Creel) listed in 1850 Census as Karon E. age 2 or possibly Sarah C. age 1. The same children are listed with Henry in 1860 as Carrie C. age 12 and Sarah E. age 10.

These families lived fairly closed to one another per census records and given the family connection this seems possible. However, I would like to have further proof that this is the same person.

There is also a Catherine Stamps d/o John Stamps found in Lauderdale Co., Al. of the same approximate age at the same time.

Does anyone have any information that connects Catherine Stamps to the family of Thomas Stamps and Elizabeth Creel?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Joni
I need help in trying to place this family. Daniel Dotson (not Dodson) Stamps who was born in Missouri. His parents were Robert Stamps (b. MO) and Mary Wagner (b. MO). He is listed as being married to Vicentita, per the 1920 New Mexico Soundex. In 1920, he had 2 children, Fletcher (age 10, born in Colorado) and Laurie V. (age 7, born in NM).
I do not have the 1910 Colorado Soundex/Census, so they may have had other children, being that Daniel and Vicentita were age 50 and 43, in 1920.
I have Daniel's death certificate from California and he was living with a Gloria S. Davis, probably for 14 years. He was widowed when he died at the age of 93. Anyone who knows of the descendants, please contact. Thank you.

He married Lillie Annie Gibson and they had two children, Evelyn Lucille Stamps and Clarence Joseph Stamps, both still living (and in their 80's). Clarence J. was supposed to have been about 35 when he married my maternal g'ma, and would have been born 1878 to 1880, in all probability.

Photo looking for a home

I have a studio photo of a Mr. Joe Stamps which I would like to send to someone looking for that particular line of Stamps.

In going through some of the photos that I inherited from my parents, I found this photo of Mr. Stamps included in the collection. Although I have fond memories of the man, he has no bearing on my own genealogical research and I would like to make sure this photo - beautiful condition - gets to a family member.

He was a friend of my father's back in the 1930's and 1940's - and was a violin-maker in Ft. Worth, Texas. (In fact, he made my first two violins!). As I understand it, my father rented a room from Mr. & Mrs. Stamps prior to his marriage to my mother in 1931. I remember visiting him occasionally as I was growin up. My impression of him was that he was probably in his 50's at the time.

If this little bit of information helps you to recognize him as a possible member of your family, please contact me privately and I will mail to you.
<jaturner@harborside.com>

Stamps/Dodson diary

DR. TIMOTHY STAMPS

Compiled by his great, great, great granddaughter Jane Macon, of Brunswick, Georgia, assisted by Thomas Stamps. Indebtedness is made for the information obtained from the Diary of Rev. Elias Dodson.

PAGE 18

Thomas Stamps - wife: Mary Rose

1. Timothy Stamps was born about 1728-29 in that part of king George County which in 1731 became Prince William County and in 1759 Fauquier County, Virginia. He married Catherine Rhoades about 1749 when he was between 19 to 21 years old. She was probably the daughter of Mary Rhoades who was one of the witnesses of the will of his father.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE THE DODSON DIARY THEY AT ARE TALKING ABOUT IS.... WOULD LOVE TO GET A COPY OF IT .,..

I am looking for information on 3 brothers: Troy, Jeffy Phynoy, and Washington Grady Stamps that married 3 Simmons sisters: Mary Velma, Susie E., and Ruby. They were the daughters of Joseph B Simmons and Dealiana Unknown. All lived in Bibb Co., at one time. Any information on this family will be appreciated

Hi! I am Wayne. My Dad was Odie Odesses STAMPS, GDad was Ben STAMPS, GMom was Mollie (TUCKER?). I'm looking for their parents. My Mom was Agnus Ruth PEEVEYHOUSE, GDad was Roy PEEVEYHOUSE, GMom was Lois JoAnn GOSS, GMom's parents were J.J. GOSS and Carrie Agnus BRUTON. I'm looking for their parents. I'm looking for birth & death dates & places for all. I was told both GMoms were all or part Cherokee or Choctaw. Family story is we originated from the Black Hills in Ireland. Owned or lived on a Plantation in VA. Traveled to TN. Migrated to OK, then to CA. I'd like clues anyone may have.
