My mother was born Martha Standley. She came from a big family. Her mother died giving birth to her 8 child. All the children in the family were sent to an orphanage in Carthage, Missouri. My mother was adopted. I have been trying to see if I could locate some of her family. Her father's name was Harry Standley. Didn't know her mothers name.
I would really like some help. Not much to go on. My mother died in 1979.

Standley Family History

I'm seeking any info on the Standley family history.I know a few things from what my grandfather and aunt told me, and
from the rasearch I've been doing.I could only trace the
Standley's as far back as the mid 1700's around Surry,North
Carolina.I've been told that when the Standley's came from
Ireland to America they were in hiding, but I don't know why
they were in hiding. My Aunt told me it was because of a religous conflict of our ancestor,Lord Standley. But I'm not
so sure of this story. Here's the information I know:
*James Standley is the father of Needham Standley:born 1822 in Henry,Alabama and died Dec.23,1864 in Finns Point,
New Jersey(I'm thinking he might have fought in the civil
war because of the date and place of his death.)His mother
is unknown.
*Needham married Elenor Hogan on Feb.18,1841 in Henry,
Alabama.They had eight children:Nancy Standley,Roxie Standley,Isham S. Standley,Kitty Ann Standley,Needham A.
Standley,Indiana Standley,Daniel Standley and my gg grand
father,Emmett Alexander Standley.
*Emmett Alexander Standley was born in 1848 in Henry,
Alabama and died in 1895 in Texas.Emmett married Margaret
Brent in 1870 in Trinity,Texas. They had nine children:
Sarah B. Standley,John A. Standley,Sally Standley,Walter B.
Standley,Needham A. Standley,Luther Standley,Lena Indiana
Standley,Will Standley, and my great grandfather Earnest
Benjamen Standley.
*Earnest Benjamen Standley was born on Sept.14,1890 in
Trinity,Texas and passed away in Jan.1968.Earnest married
Mattie Lee Lane on 1910 or 1911,and had eight children:
Warren Standley,Elic Standley,Joe Sam Standley,Earnest
"Uncle Bunk" Standley,Ruby L. Standley,Esther Standley,
Maggie Standley and my grandfather Marion Ethridge Standley.
*Marion Ethridge Standley was born on Feb.27,1931 in
Holly,Trinity,Texas and passed away on March 17,2007 in
Trinity,Texas.Marion married Audrey M. Williamson in 1950
and had five children: Kathy C. Standley,Marion Lane Standley,Larry R. Standley,Randy S. Standley,and my mom
Karen J. Standley. If you have any more info on the Standley family or if any of the names on my post interest you
please contact me at neecycc@yahoo.com Thanks!
Matilda Standley Rogers - need assistance with birth record

Greetings all, I could use some genealogical research help.

Matilda Standley was the dau of Dr. William Standley and Matilda Ausmus. Her death certificate says she was born 16-Mar-1852 in Iowa. Additional sources (Sheridan Co KS History book, etc) indicate the birth county was Wapello County Iowa.

She's being considered to be added to a list of oldest living persons, but an additional reliable source is needed for her birth. The 1860 Federal census doesn't support the 1852 birth, and earlier records trump later records for reliable sources (thus I can't use 1870 or later census).

I thought it might be a long shot here, but maybe somebody knows where the "Wapello Co, IA" source came from. Maybe somebody found the family on an IA State Census in 1852 or 1854. Or maybe a church record or family bible. I'm also trying to contact descendants, but I thought I'd post here to see if someone can help.

Additional information:
She was married to my GGgrand-uncle, Jacob Colmore Rogers on 17-Mar-1871 in Gentry Co MO (no marriage record found). She died on 30-Aug-1962 in Sheridan Co KS.

She and her family have been mentioned before on this board (see posts by Dan Smith back in 2000).

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin Vap

Robert Standley was born in 1827or1828, not 1818. I found 2 submissions on a web site that said Robert and his wife, Kitty Ebaline's mothers were sisters. Kitty Ebaline Wilson was born 23 Dec 1839 in Carlisle, Nicholas Co, Ky. Her parents were John Thomas Wilson and Katherine Ann Moore. Katherine had several sisters but I do not have any information on any of them (Elizabeth, Margaret, Nancy and Permilla), One sister, Ebaline married Ezra Pointer. So, Robert Standley should indeed be connected to my John S. Standley line but I need help.

Phillip Richard Standley

I am searching for information on my great grandfather who was Phillip Richard Standley. He was born in Van Buren, Iowa on November 5, 1832. He married Polly Ann Turnham in Illinois around 1855. Polly Ann died around 1880 in Illinois at which time he brought his children to Oregon via California we think. His siblings were W.H. (Bill), G.H. (George), T.D. (Thomas), J.R. (John), A.J. (Andrew), Olive (Ollie), Mary Ellen (Molly), and Arvilla. With the exception of Mary Ellen (Molly) who died in Oregon and is buried in Cottage Grove, Oregon, we have little information. We always heard his parents or grandparents originally came from Stanleydale (sp?) Scotland, then to America via England or Wales. I would appreciate any further information anyone has that may link us back farther than his birthdate in 1832. Thank you.
Pheolia Stanley, wife of Waitsel Avery Standley/Stanley

I just obtained a death certificate for my GGGrandfather, Waitsel Avery Stanley (as spelled on the 1937 death certificate; his name is spelled Watsel Standley on the 1880 census, and his daughter Margaret Jane used Standley as well). The death certificate shows Pheolia L. Stanley as his wife, and his status as a widower.
Waitsel's wife when his daughter Margaret Jane was born was Mary Mullins. I've found some references to his being married a second time, to an Elmira Counts, but the name on his death certificate as his wife is a new one to me. Does anyone have any information on who Pheolia L. was?
Anyone wanting a copy of this death certificate, or the marriage certificate of Margaret Jane, who first married Alfred Rowe, then Alex Hatfield, feel free to contact me.

Looking for Oren Standley

I finally have time to look into some family history. This is my first post, and am just getting into genealogy.

I am looking for information on my grandfather, Oren Standley. His name is spelled Orin Standley on my parents marrage license (Earl Standley and Bertha Schaefer) , but I believe this is an error by the recording clerk since I have found references to Oren Standley in several on-line family trees. Married to Martha Lynch. Last known location (by me) is Moscow, Idaho. I do have a little information on his other children.

Thanks,

Ron Standley
I am looking for information on Anna Standley, b about 1766, possibly in Kent County Delaware, married Simon Lindley 14 July 1788 in South Carolina, died in Chatham Township, Sangammon County, Illinois, 23 January 1849
The only clue I have is this record of land sale, John Lindley was the father of Simon, I believe that Thomas Standley mentioned in the document was either the father or brother of Anna Standley
"John Lindley of Pendleton County, S. C., conveys to Enoch Garner of the same county, for £.45, a piece of land in Ninety-Six District, on the North side of Big Creek, containing 150 acres, being part of 465 acres originally granted to Elijah Owens by his Excelleney Gov. William Moultrie 4 Sept. 1786, and conveyed by said Owens to Thomas Standley and from said Standley to the said Lindley. Also, part of one other tract of land in the District aforesaid, on the north side of Big Creek of Saluda River, containing 6½ acres, bounding SW by the above tract."

Thomas D Standley d. Gibson, TN 1855

Looking for information about Thomas D Standley who was in Gibson Co. TN by 1830 when he appeared on a sheriff's list.

In 1855, our Shadrack Wilson was the administrator of his estate. Since our Wilson family had a much earlier Standley connection in Bertie Co., NC in which Rachell Moore, dau of Epaphroditus Moore, married a Standley, I am curious if there might have been an ongoing relationship with later generations keeping in touch.

Marilyn
I'm so mad at myself. I thought I was reading death records, and when I finally did get to that place on the microfilm, I realized I had been recording birth records, which I don't want or need for this timeframe. I have birth records for the names Dixon, Estes, Dodson, Moore, Overby, Standley (Stanley), Thompson, Yancey and Younger. Does someone need this info? If yes, e-mail me at restes@mail.ic.net and I'll send it in spreadsheet format. I can't just throw it away.

Paul C. Standley, botanist

Looking for information about Paul C. STANDLEY, renowned botanist, who was with the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago for many years. Much is available online about his professional life, but not his personal life. He is a cousin in some degree to my grandmother, Martha LUKENS McGONIGAL, but I'm not sure how he fits. I have a snapshot of him, probably taken in the 1930s. I suspect he was born in the 1880s, because he published in 1921 and possibly earlier. I also have a postcard photo taken in Ft. Myers, FL of a baby on which is written Standley Burke LUMMIS Born January 21 - 1918, who is no doubt related to Paul somehow.

We are looking for any record of Philip Standley of Illinois. All we know is that he was from Illinois and married Polly Anne Turnan (sp?) and came to the Rogue River Valley of Oregon at a late age (around the 1870's). He is our great grandfather and father to our grandfather, Charles Washington Standley. We have very little information before he came to Oregon so any information you may have will be appreciated. Polly Anne apparently died prior to the family coming to Oregon. We believe Philip is of Scottish or English descent but we have little to go but information passed down from relatives with no verification. Thanks to anyone who can help us!

We are new at this family tree. The Moses Standley that we have was married to Elizabeth Bird born 4 Jan. 1682 in Dorchester, Norfolk Co., Ma. and have no dates for Moses. He could be my husband's gr.gr. gr. grandfather. By now we don't really know who belongs to who but we're having a good time. My husbands name is Kenneth W., his father Walter O., and grandfather was Edward. Would like to know the parents of the Moses Standley that Judi Standley-Elkin and Rhonda have. Mystery is near we hope.

Standley, Gimon Family History

My foster parents were Milton E. GIMON and Mary Ellen CLICK GIMON. She was a sister to my grandfather Collins Marion click. Milton's mother was Sally STANDLEY GIMON they lived in Weldon, Texas and her husband Walter Gimon was postmaster in Weldon for several years in the early 1920's. Would like more information on the Standley and Gimon families as they mean a lot to me. Milton had one brother Roy Gimon, I have been in contact with one of his daughters and they have given me permission to look up the family as far as I can find any information. Thanks Roy Click Smith
