Stanfield researchers -
I am pleased to announce a major addition to
"The Stanfield Family" website. As most of you, no
doubt are aware, all Stanfield, Stansfield, Stanfill,
Stanphill, Standfield, and Stansfeld lines in the US,
Ireland, Canada, and Australia can ultimately be traced
back to the township of Stansfield in the West Riding of
Yorkshire on the borders with Lancashire and Cheshire
in Old England.
Since many will never have the money or opportunity to
visit there, I thought it appropriate to prepare and offer a
"Virtual Tour of Stansfield Country in Old England". A
link has been added to the main page of "The Stanfield
Family" website.
As far as I can see, the 4 most important places to know about in
understanding the English Stansfields are these:
[1] Stansfield Hall, the ancient seat of the Lords of the Manor of Stansfield
[2] Heptonstall, the principal Chapelry in the township of Stansfield, and
today a town, so it is on the map
[3] Cross Stone, the secondary Chapelry in the township of Stansfield
[4] Todmorden, the nearby Market Town; for most of its history the
border between Yorkshire and Lancashire ran down the middle of
Todmorden's main street.
These are all included on the tour. Of all of the sights to be seen, "Virtual
Tour of Todmorden" is the chief one you'll want to see as it is literally a
photo album of thumbnail photos of all of the nearby sights and attractions.
Please come and have a vacation on us!!
