Hi,
on 1841 UK census, Joseph Staples [Josep Staple] was an agricultural labourer living at Banwell. Yet this may not be Joseph Staples, born at Bleadon Somerset. There was also a Staple farming family of Banwell.

regards from Laurel in Sydney laurelbau@yahoo.com.au
[descendant of Mary Staples of Bleadon, sister of Joseph]

Hi Susan: Perhaps we are dealing with the same Richard. I am working with a genealogist in Utah who reports at this time that "the apparent emigrant Richard Staples of Nansemond Co married a daughter of one Richard Brasseur, a Huguenot alien" (his wife's name is proven in other documents). He is working still on Richard and his son, William. If you are interested in any of his other thoughts, I would be happy to share. Would be interested in any info that you might have. Thanks.

Judy Aull

Nathan Staples - Lee, Oneida, New York

Does anyone have information on the family of Nathan Staples that lived in Lee township, Oneida county, New York during the 1830 and 1840 US Census? This may be the father of S. G. Staples, that according to the 1850 census was 26 years old in Lee, Oneida, New York. I am trying to verify Sylvester Grinnell Staples parents. Also in the 1830 and 1840 census for Lee, Oneida, New York is a Hiram Barber family. It may be there daughter, Nancy L Barber that married SG Staples.

Ayuh! It was just a shot in the dark to try to nail Josiah down a little more. There is, of course, still some question as to whether or not he was who we believe. Now, if that doesn't confuse you....I give up! Any how, nice to hear from you and I hope that you are doing well? I've been away from the genealogy thing for a while, but am now tearing my "hair" out again. I was hoping that someone down that way could do a search for his obit from 1929 to see who was listed as surviving kin. As well as a couple of other thoughts.

Take care,

Rolf

From the data I have, I believe William M. Clarke was in business with William J Staples..
William J Staples was the son of John and Amy Staples.
John and Amy Staples also had a daughter Isabella who was married to William Mather Clarke.
These must be the Isabella and William M Clarke buried in St Paul’s.

Apparently the only Staples / Clarke connection would be Isabella married to William as a result of the business partnership or the other way around.

I have not connected these Staples to my own line after much research.

Hi George

It was good to hear from a fellow relative of the 'Kilvington's'! My mother Florence was Ethel Kilvington's daughter, she is now 92, and Bertie was my mothers uncle. She saw Eva once on a visit to England and remembers several other relatives.Eva had a sister called Lillian and I remember her daughter Noel coming over from Canada in the 1960's to stay with my grandma Ethel. If you know any details of the relatives who went to Canada we would be really interested. The two photographs are of Louisa Kilvington after she had emigrated to Canada and my grandma Ethel Kilvington.

I believe I have an ancestor William Clarke who lived in New York and died about 1798 and was buried in the Minthorne Vault in St Pauls. Who was he and what was his occupation. He had a daughter Elizabeth Staples Clarke who married into the Puttenham family of Ireland. My conundrum is how did she have the middle name of Staples as part of her maiden name.Any help would be appreciated.

Hi: I have some family listings, but I am unsure as to who all came to Canada. I know one of the female members of the family went to the United States, Philadelphia, I believe. Thomas and Louisa(Nicholson)Kilvington had Bertie, my grandfather, Christopher, who lived in Victoria, B.C., Edwin, Sydney, Lulu, Lillian, Eva, and Ethel. I'm not sure which one went to the U.S.A. Eva lived in Canada, and I believe Edwin may have lived in Calgary. Bertie married Ellen Sharp of Leeds, Daughter of George Henry Sharp and Emma (Barker) Sharp. Bertie and Ellen had Arthur, Harry, George(my father), Nellie, Thomas, Robert, Edith, Sydney and Elsie. They all lived either in the Victoria area or Calgary most of their lives. There are numerous children from these relatives, as well, but over the years, they have spread out and contact has been lost with virtually all of them. As I previously indicated, only my father, George, and my aunt Elsie remain. Incidentally, just for your info, I am 61 years old, retired from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, married(wife Sue, nee Craven, a family from the Manchester area) with no children, and living in Duncan, British Columbia. If I can obtain any further info, I will forward it to you.
George D. Kilvington.

I am the great-grandson of Thomas and Louisa(Nicholson) Kilvington. There are several other great grandchildren as well as numerous great-great grandchildren. The only remaining grandchildren are my father, George and his sister Elsie. My father's father was Bertie. He had a brother Christopher and sisters Enid and Eva. there may be more, but I would have to check family documents.

Josiah W. Staples

I have Josiah W. Staples 26 Jul 1851 (Oxford, ME)-7 Feb 1925 (Plympton), son of Joseph Staples and Sarah Lunt. His line is Peter 1, 2, 3, Tobias 4, David 5, Joseph 6. He had 4 wives: Annettie Baxter, Theodora Menke, Roxanne Foster and Fannie Hudson. Contact Rolf Staples who lived in Northern ME last I heard. You can find posts by him her and Genealogy.com (Staples). Here is son info from Rolf:

Josiah W. Staples was living in Salem, Mass. in the 1900 Census, with 3 youngest children. He is buried in Salem, Mass. Plympton may have been a summer home or retirement home.

Marriage index found matching entries for Josiah W. Staples and Rosanna Foster in Berlin 1869 volume 219, page 211. (Called Joseph W.) George Wilson's birth in the index in Berlin 1870, 225/206.

From Rolf:
I also have Josiah W. Staples's birth certificate which shows him born on that date in Oxford,Me to Joseph and Sarah. Josia had other wives and children after that time. He was also a shoeworker. It's a little involved but he apparently married my gggrandmother in 1872 in Rollinsford,nh while still married to Rosa. There is no further record of that marriage but, my ggrandfather was born in 1873 and Annettie remarried soon after and she and her husband raised Calvin. There is record of at least two more marriages for Josia and more children. He died in Plympton,Ma. in 1925. I have the death certificate. If you like, I will tell you of the method used to decide that Josia was the father of Calvin. It's a little bit circumstantial but pretty clear.

Josia is still perhaps my weakest link as I have found no hard evidence that he was the :"Joseph" Staples that married Annettie Baxter. Everything I have dug up does make a strong enough case to believe it to be so. Hard copy would be nice, but sometimes you must have faith, I guess!
Keep cool!
Rolf
Westborough, Worcester Co, MA 1880, wife Fannie.
1910 census, Lynn, Essex, MA.

In the 1900 US cencus it shows him as fr in law to head of house hold. Calvin spinney the problem lies with we always thought she was an evans and not a staples.
