I am also a descendent of George Vesey Cavenagh and Jemima Smith. I was born in Australia but now live in the UK. I, along with my cousin (who lives in Canberra, Aust.) have been trying to piece together as much information as possible about the Cavenagh family and would very much appreciate any information that you may have. I have a booklet entitled 'A history of the Cavenagh Family' put together by one of George's sons and given to me by my cousin Helen - do you have a copy of this? Looking forward to hearing from you.

Francis Marion Starbuck died about 1913 in Mosca, Alamosa County, Colorado. His wife, my great grandmother was Eliza Jane Pruett Starbuck. She died in 1939 in Pueblo, Colorado.
What type of post card is it that you have? Is it more what is written on it than the post card that is of interest? Francis Marion & Eliza Starbuck had a son named Francis Elmer,he died in 1952- and he also named one of his sons Francis. The last- Francis William Starbuck died in 1977.

Right after I made the last posting, I checked the 1910 census and found Stephen Ayers in Perry County, Tennesee.
The spelling is Shepen H Hyers, but it is the right person, as the children are listed too. Sallie is not listed as his wife but someone named Bertha, so Sallie Kelly must have died about 1902 as I had been told.

Karen

Try searching with the spelling AYERS as there are quite a few families in the area under that spelling. In fact, Daniel Starbuck and Frances Journey Starbuck's daughter, Ethel Elizabeth married Ernest James Ayers on 25 Oct 1887. Could be a brother to him.

Since I placed this posting, I found my Great grandfather, Francis Marion Starbuck, listed on the Veteran's Schedule of 1890 in Prairie, Schuyler County, Missouri. It states that he served on the Confedrate side as a private from Aug 1861 till March 1863.
So, as with numerous families, brothers were on opposite sides, against each other. My grandfather had said he asked his father once if he ever killed anyone in the Civil War, and my great grandfather replied "Not anyone he knew." My grandfather said he always wondered about that statement.
I did however find some of his brothers,Bailey,Darius, and Erastus Starbuck in the Civil War and other Starbuck men.Bailey Starbuck was a Prisoner of War,and the other two brothers were listed as Soldiers of the Civil War.I found this info on Ancestry.com.

Of course, if she married, it would be hard to find anything without her new last name.
Hope you have some luck.

Actually Sallie is Frances Eugenia Journey's daughter from her marriage to Thomas Clinton Kelly on 17 July 1875.Sally was born on 22 April 1876. Thomas Kelly died in 1877 and she married Daniel Starbuck 10 Sept 1879. So Sallie is Daniel's step-daughter.She died in 1902. I don't have any other info on her though.
I'm a relative by way of Daniel's grandfather, Daniel Starbuck, by his second marriage to Nancy Shelton.

Hello Kay, I have quite a collection of Starbucks on my website - there are quite a few branches that we have been unable to connect up to each other. My own ancestry is in Leicestershire and cannot link to those in Derbyshire so far. Through DNA testing I know that my ancestry is not connected to those who settled in Nantucket - this is a recent discovery. I think the only way you will discover if you are related to the Nantucketers would be through having a male Starbuck relative tested for his DNA and would also show whether you are related to myself and others, or not! my website url to take you to the Ilkestone line is http://www.jillsfamilyancestry.co.uk/Starbuck_Gateway/Ilkest...
There are plenty of links for you to investigate. My ancestor was Philadelphia Starbuck, you will find her page from the site index.
Regards Jill

To that end, I'd be interested in participating in your DNA test.
I haven't read your page yet on the project, but I'll do so before I ask a bunch of questions. I'm keen to determine if this could help in closing the gap a bit. Do you have lines on your side that are documented pre-1604?

I do know that my grandpa and his brother were at a Indian Reservation but they never spoke of any relative being there.Makes you wonder..

I like pictures I like to see what my relatives looked like back then.I have Pictures of the Starbucks I don't have a picture of John Starbuck or Erastus dad Daniel Starbuck of course him and his family they moved to Missouri some time after 1850.The only one that stayed there til death was Erastus Starbuck and his family.I believe his brother Darius Starbuck and his wife Rheda left to Missouri.

Heather

My email address is rjheather@graffiti.net

I'm looking for information on E. Starbuck who was born about 1800 in North Carolina. His parents are listed as being from NC, and he married Mary, b. abt 1805, Maryland, her parents listed as from Maryland.

One of their sons is Charles H Starbuck, b. abt 1850, Ohio. And a possible daughter of Sarah or Susan. Charles H migrated to Oregon, and had a daughter, Sadie, b. 1869 in Nebraska.

Any information to connect this line to the other Starbuck lines would be appreciated.

Dear Heather
My Goldie was born Goldie Catherine Bivins right around 1882 in Indian Territory. Her daddy built the school that I mentioned in my original query.
The 1900 census has her in Washington county, Oklahoma, in the Fredman home - "visiting around." She's Goldy Bivins, shown as divorced, and my grandfather was already placed with his foster/adoptive parents. I know that she used the Starbuck name at various times over the next few years, though.
I'm familiar with much of Daniel's line, including Charles and Medora, but haven't found a James mentioned anywhere yet - what was that marriage information in your reply? Do you know who this James and Bertha were?

Thanx, Vicki
a Starbuck puzzle

Greetings, fellow searchers - and re-searchers -
Can anyone help me with my elusive ( hopefully not missing ) link?
I'm looking for a branch of the Starbuck tree that resided between the years of 1895 and 190something in the Vera/McFalls/Ramona area of Cherokee Nation.
Specifically - with a son named James or Jim, born around 1880 or so, that attended what was known as the Bivins school in 1896.I have a class picture of the school from that year showing Jim Starbuck, with teacher Retta (or Rita) Houser, and classmates including Myers, Holland, Duncan, Pelsue, Harmon and others. The school was later known as Eastlake.
On my great grandmother's interview before the Dawes Commission, dated Oct 10, 1900, she claims that she married a James Starbuck around May of 1898 or 99, and that he was the father of her son. I also have a birth affadavit signed by a Sarah Beffy that attended his birth.
On the 1900 census, I find my great grandmother in the Fredman home in Ramona, listed as divorced.
By 1905, she was living in Chanute, Kansas, had married a Harkness, and divorced again by 1910.
I know of Milton's family - that lived in Neosho county, Kansas and Ottawa county, Oklahoma -
I know of Isaac and Rachel's family - who populated portions of Kansas and Oklahoma -
and I know of Abram and Mary's family - from McLain county, Oklahoma.
All are good possibilities, but so are the branches from just over in Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas.
Please, can anyone claim my James?
Reply by posting to this thread or more directly to -
matarbucket@yahoo.com
Thanx in advance for any help that's out there - Vicki
Re: a Starbuck puzzle

Dear Heather,
My grandfather was born Ernest Glenn Starbuck, but when he was about 16 months old his mother Goldie gave him to the town physician to raise. Her own father had disowned her because of her pregnancy (so did she really marry James?) and she had no way to care for him. On the census records (1900 and 1910), through school and during his WW1 service, he was known as Ora Ernest Tillison. The 1920 census shows him in the Tillison home as Ernest Tarbuck, so he must have reverted to his birth name after his discharge from the army. This census also shows him as being divorced, but no one knows anything about a prior marriage. His Dawes number was 10352, and as far as the family knows, he was the only child that Goldie ever had. The James shown on her enrollment card was his father, the Starbuck I've been searching for. Ernest died in 1958.
He and grandma were married in 1922 and my dad was born in 1923. Dad's youngest brother remembers asking Goldie's brother about James a time or two, and they were always told "you're better off not knowing".
By the way, I noticed in one of your other postings that you love pictures. Me too, and I'd love to have copies of some that you have. Mine only go back to about 1911 or so for Ernest, and the one that I have of my James was taken in 1896, but I'd be happy to send any you might have an interest in. I've noticed that the Starbuck features carry through the generations pretty strongly - found a picture of John Wesley Starbuck on the internet that could have been my oldest brother - and I'd love to make more comparisons. Let me know.
Sincerely, Vicki
The picture is the Bivin's school class in 1896 - Cherokee nation.
According to the memory of a fellow named Barker some 80 years later, the tall boy standing on the far right holding his hat is Jim Starbuck.
That's it. I'm guessing he's about 16 or so, what do you think?

Vicki

My great grandfather's half brother Thomas Henry Andrew born at Trenance Farm, St Austell, Cornwall September 1849 married Lillian Starbuck (Marriage registered by Birkenhead Register Office April/May/June quarter 1897) the daughter of George Starbuck born Massachusetts, USA & Arabella Cavenagh born Melbourne. Lillian & Thomas are on the 1901 census with their children Thomas Stuart b1892JAS & George Herbert b1900JFM. Both births were registered St Austell Cornwall. Thomas Andrew & my great grandfather George (christened 8/7/1834)had the same father, also called George christened 25 Oct 1801. After his first wife Mary died Jan1st 1846, he remarried 1847 ONDCamelford Reg Dist, Philipa Pearce Bishop. She was the sister of Jane Bishop who had married George's own brother William Andrew & may have initially come to help him look after his young children at Trenance. However George himself died 25/3/1849 leaving a pregnant Phillipa. The baptismal entry for Thomas records father dead. I would like to be in touch with any descendants. I have traced most of the Andrew tree.

Heather,
Linda sent me 3 pictures yesterday. I have a picture of William Monroe and Nancy Jane I can email if you don't have one. My Email is poppypope@worldnet.att.net I will see if I can find anything in the Linden Libaray when I am down there in 2 weeks. I plan to work on my other lines that were in Perry County. I remember well visit William Monroe Jr. he went by Monroe and I beleive (not sure) he lived in Sr.'s log house. Have you ever been to Perry county??
I would like to discuss William Monroe with you I am very interested in information from your families side. If you would like to compare notes email me direct and we will dig into this history that my side of the family kept under a rug. One question comes to mind. Do you know any thing about Minnie Starbuck. My mother called her Aunt but I don't find her in the census until she is a teenager, it has always been a mistery to me.
John
