Where in Western Michigan? I am trying to find the origins of Ann Starks and her husband Phineas Swift Sr. (sometimes spelled Phinehas Swift), who moved to Montcalm County, Michigan, around 1850. I believe the 1850 (or 1860) Michigan census reflects other Starks in the immediate vicinity of Phineas Jr.'s home in Fariplains Township, MI, and Ann and Phineas Sr. later joined their son there. Ann and Phineas lived in Grove Township, Allegany County, NY, at the time of the 1850 US Census (which listed their birth state as Vermont and ages indicating both were born around 1800), and were married around 1823, quite likely in Livingston County, NY. For more details, see my posting of April 5, 2002, to the Starks Message Board.

Regards, Larry
