James A. Starks, 79
of Fairview, Pa.,
passed away on Monday, November 9, 2009
at St. Vincent Health Center.
He was born December 23, 1929 in Erie, Pa.
He was the founder and owner of Date Sciences the Leading Marketing Research Company on the West Coast. He graduated Magna Cum Laude at USC. He was a guest Lecturer in their Business Marketing Department. Received his Doctorate Degree from USC.
He served in the U.S. Military stationed at Camp Pendelton in San Diego, Calif.
Besides his parents,
he was preceded in death by his beloved The Love of His Life, Barbara Starks, in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter Pamela Zimmer and husband Detlev, a granddaughter Jennifer Zimmer both of Colorado Springs, Colo., a granddaughter Michele Wehrly of Las Vegas, Nev.,
and a brother William Starks of Erie.
There will be no calling hours or services.
Inurnment will be in the Santa Barbara Cemetery, Santa Barbara, Calif.
Contributions can be made to the family c/o the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home. Arrangements handled by the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503.

I have John Stark born around 1813. Married Lousia J Robinson (born around 1825). I show they had 14 children. (in no particular order)

I don't know the name of his first wife, but they had two sons. Roland Leroy Stark & Allen Beaman Stark. Then he married Rose Adele Pearson (4/9/10-6/29/00). They had 5 children together.

Starks and Edrich Starks all from Wega- Wisconisn. I don't know how they are

Richard S. STARKS was b. 6 Oct. 1844, Woodford Co., KY, eldest son of Susan [CRUTCHER] & James M. STARKS. James was born in Virginia {?} and brought as a child by his parents to Kentucky, where he lived until his death in May 1881. In 1875, James sold his Woodford Co. farm and purchased another in Mercer Co.

Susan, who died when Richard was quite small, was daughter of Richard CRUTCHER, of an old Kentucky family quite numerous in Franklin Co.

Richard S. STARKS went to Davenport, IA, and worked in the drug trade of Harrison and Starks, from about 1865 - 1873. Then Richard STARKS formed a stock company called Midway Paper Mill Co., which failed, and he returned to the drug trade in Midway, KY. In 1872, Richard married Mrs. Lucy [HIBLER] PROCTOR, dau/o A. S. HIBLER, Esq., a native of Bourbon Co., KY. Children were Edna, James, & Kate STARKS.

{We need to find the reason for the discrepancy. The names of the children of Richard & Lucy were Mary and Raymond in 1880. In 1900, she reportedly had only had three.}

FamilySearch takes the line back to the Scottish immigrant STARK. RootsWeb also takes the family back several generations and shows that the name Stires is on the W W I draft registration of James Stires STARKS.

I am a Starks from Chester SC. however my great-great-great grandfather is said to have been from Virginia. Unfortunately I don't know where. His name was Joe and he married a Hannah Estes. I don't know anything about his parents or sibleys. I have the names of most if not all of his children. I have couple Sarah Starks in my family line dating back as far as 1840.

Alfred's sister Grace Irene Starks. married my grandfather's second cousin, Elmer Allyn. Grace and Elmer had one child who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Ohio. A few years later, Elmer and Grace divorced. Grace remarried to a Mr. Stuart. She was last known to be living near Purdy, MO.

My Starks either came from Missouri or they just traveled back and forth there for some reason. My ggrandfather Adam Starks was born in 1831 in Va., his father Samuel married an Eleanor Lough in Va in 1828, but can not find where Samuel came from to Va., my grandfather Samuel Galloway Starks was born in either Illinois or Missouri (we haven't found what state it was and the census vary on it) in 1864/65. My great aunt Nellie Cathryn was born in 1864 in Missouri. Do not know where Adam Oliver Starks and Hannah Cathryn Shaffer/Shaver was married, but they were together in Illinois and Missouri but was back in WVa in the 1870 census. After the 1880 census Adam and Hannah went back to Missouri, as that is where they left their one daughter Mary Susan Starks with another family to raise. Mary Susan stayed in Missouri and married a Henry Wimer, that is where she died. Nancy Jane Starks Curan for some reason went to Missouri and lived with her last husband till her death. She had daughter Lillian and Louella (spellings may be different). They were born between 1901-1910. Back to my gggrandfather Samuel Starks, his father was suppose to be a John Starks, but so far haven't found any information on him. If any of these names appear in bible, please email me. Other names would be children of Adam's to his first marriage to Susan Jones, John Elliot Starks, Elizabeth Starks, Hannah Lintz Starks. Adam's other childrens names are: Samuel Galloway, Nellie, Nancy Jane, Mary Susan, Robert, Carrie and Joseph (twins), Minnie and George Henry Starks.

I haven't been able to find anymore information on my great uncle Joseph H. Starks since the 1880 census, so we don't know if Adam and Hannah left him with another family to raise, like they did Mary Susan, or not. If they did, don't even know if he went by last name of Starks.

My Starks are Rosa/Rose Starks and her husband Charles, the children (there may have been other children) are Sarch Starks and Mary V. Starks, my great grandmother, born around 1840-45. It is believed they were all born in VA, not sure where. The two daughters married and lived in King George County, VA. It has been said that they may have had relatives in Ohio or Michigan.

Do you know of any Starks family reunions?

I don't see any direct connection with the names in the Bible. I will research to see if there are any "loose" connections. We do have a couple of individuals that have provided information that have "loose connections" to the family, but no one with connections in the direct line. My sister, who is in possession of the Bible, is trying to determine what to do at this point. Thank you for your interest.

OMG !! Grance I Starks...She was also married to one of my Great Uncles in IL. His name was Floyd Allen. At the time of his death, (obit ran in IL newspaper due to the accident with the train derailment.
I have not seen her name since. I talked to my second cousin in IL, which stated, Grace was indeed Alfred's sister. Alfred married my Great Aunt Rose Marie nee Allen sister to Floyd above. Does anyone know anything more?

Unfortunately, FamilySearch doesn't have any Price STARKS of Calloway Co., KY, 1880. There was a W. Marshall STARKS, 71, wf. Eliza, 70, of Murray. In Calloway Co., there were Wm. C., 29, TN, & Emily, 24, KY, but no Price. Texas censuses of 1920 & 1930 show that Price was born ca. 1881.

Actually, I'm the lost one. My name is Cynthia Ann (maiden name Starks) my father is Daniel Starks, Grandfather James Craig Starks. Grandfathers brother was Richard (Dick) Starks and wife Hilda. Grandfather's sisters that I remember were Lillian and Winifred.

I would like very much to reestablish contact with the Starks side of my family if anyone remembers me. I have no family now other than my own children. I grew up in Seattle but strongly desire family roots in Ky.

I have an ancestor - Harvey Starks married to a Mary Hough, His son was Samuel Harvey Starks & was married to Amanda Rebecca Axtell & their daughter Nellie Rose Starks married in 1894 approx. We know that they traveled through IL & MO with the Mormons (or at least that is family lore). I can provide more names if you need them.

Hey Robin,

The Hettie/Hattie Starks I am researching was born 1829 in either Fairfield or Chester County, SC. She was a slave owned by the Pickett Family. They moved to Louisiana in the late 1830s. She had a connection to fellow enslaved people named William "Bill" and Minerva. She died in 1944 at 115 years.

Both spellings have been found, although Hettie is more common. She was from either Fairfield or Chester County, SC and was owned by the Pickett Family.
