This is a reminder about the materials available in book form in America about the Staton family (at least the ones that I have seen).

The book Staton HISTORY by Rev John Staton is still available from his wife Alline, and it contains some information gathered from families that is invaluable. The book needs to be boiled down to a few proveable lines and restructured because the organization is haphazard. He did not have the software resources to organize this material, it is mostly copied typescript, and we all know the limitations of taking such material to press.

The section on Hall co GA and some of the NC families are very well done and seem to prove out. The sections on VA & SC and the migration from MD and DE are very hazy, but I can verify that there were Staton records in MD parish records that have been mistrancribed as SLATONS. There are serious errors in the SC material.

The early history of the name and connections back to Europe are very questionable, the same as similar theories posted on my name. I restrict my work to verifiable American lines, because the English lines of my name have never shown any conection to any of the American families from before the 19th c.

There are good (if slim) treatments of the some of the family of George Dameron Staton, who came to Bount co AL, but I am at work and cannot leave a bibliographic citation. I will post this when I find it at home.

It is not possible for my to do my research on Slatons without "keeping up with the Statons." Our families shared several county locations in census and vital records.
