KILLED HIS BROTHER-IN-LAW
Family Trouble Is The Cause Of A Murder
Lawton: S. B. Bush was shot and instantly killed at his home by Rube St. Clair, his brother-in-law. St. Clair immediately surrendered himself to City Marshal Heck Thomas, who turned him over to the sheriff and he was placed in jail.
The immediate cause of the killing was family trouble. Bush had come home drunk and threatened to kill his wife. At numerous times before he had threatened her and attempted to beat her, and she has successfully resisted him. This time, however, he overpowered her, and throwing her down attempted to choke her to death.
St. Clair was in the room at the time, and believing that Bush really intended to carry out his threat and seeing his sister in such peril, he pulled a 38 Smith & Wesson revolver and fired at Bush. Five shots were fired, two of which took effect, killing Bush instantly.
Bush was discharged from the city police force a few days ago for misconduct and has since been drinking heavily. Recently he took a dose of morphine with the purpose of killing himself, but doctors arrived in time to save his life.
Several times he has threatened to kill his wife, and Ed Page and then commit suicide. At the time of the killing Page was in court making complaint against Bush for attempting to kill him.
